ARG Iowa poll: Mitt 26, Huckabee 24?

No diggity. The good news for Mitt is that ARG polls tend to be outliers. Scroll down here and follow Rudy’s numbers, or better yet, scroll down through the South Carolina numbers and see how freakishly low they’ve got Fred. The bad news for Mitt? This is in line with other recent polls showing Huck on the move. I still think Romney wins the state but now at a higher cost and a smaller margin of victory that won’t give him quite the boost going into New Hampshire and South Carolina that he might otherwise have had. The question is what Rudy should do. He’s happy to see a poorly financed candidate like Huck create headaches for Mitt; since he doesn’t have a chance to win Iowa himself, does he instruct some of his aides to start doing a little surreptitious politicking for Huckabee around the state? He can’t afford to finish too far behind the leaders or it’ll look like a full-fledged flameout and the media will go crazy over it (as Dick Morris is already doing). But he’s still looking good in Florida and it can’t hurt to make friends with Huck now in case he has him in mind as a possible VP candidate.
Meanwhile, don’t look now but the GOP race isn’t the only one that’s wide open.

I like the Huck a lot at first but the more of his democrat side I see, the more I back away.
MITT ‘08!!!

Huck is a socialist and pro-immigration amnesty. No wonder the MSM is propping him up.

Oh, goody.
Slublog on November 15, 2007 at 1:09 PM
You know, I don’t want Huckabee. I’d rather have McCain than Huckabee, and I don’t want McCain either.

HUCKABEE/PAUL!
Allahpundit on November 15, 2007 at 1:10 PM
I think we could appropriate the Meadow Party slogan for that one: “This time, why not the worst?”
Slublog on November 15, 2007 at 1:11 PM
Why not? Andrew Sullivan can be Secretary of State in this fantasy universe, and Perot can be appointed to the Supreme Court!

speaking of former arkansaw governors who came second in iowa and went on to suprise everyone, the original is staring in a new webisode for his missus, quite funny.

People are still not familiar with Huckabee. They believe all they hype that he’s this true conservative Christian and I’d guess 98% of Americans have yet to hear about is history on taxes or that he favors amnesty and believes those who don’t are racist.
Huckabee is going nowhere.
Gregor on November 15, 2007 at 1:22 PM
Please, God. Not Huck.
Splashman on November 15, 2007 at 1:23 PM
Can Democrats and Independents vote for Republican candidates in Iowa primaries?
bnelson44 on November 15, 2007 at 1:23 PM
Just checked the Rasmussen site – Edwards is on the move.
Slublog on November 15, 2007 at 1:27 PM
I’ll second Splashman, Please God of my choice, not the Huckster.
Huckabee represents everything that is currently wrong with the Republican party. Huckabee is a wrong turn, dead end, desaster. Its imperative that we abandon this nanny stater on the side of the road.
Zetterson on November 15, 2007 at 1:28 PM
Um…the rest of my comment….
Now that Edwards and Obama are within striking distance of Clinton, and her ‘but I’m a girl‘ defense has so miserably failed her, tonight’s debate should be interesting. As we saw in the last debate, Clinton doesn’t do well under pressure.
Slublog on November 15, 2007 at 1:29 PM
I was excited about Mike Huckabee after the Morality Debate in Florida but I can’t vote for the guy because he’s so pro-illegal alien. He frightens the hell out of me.
Giuliani is so socially liberal he’s out for me. He says he’d only support strict constructionists for
SCOTUS but one of his judicial appointments, as mayor, was an officer of the International Association of Lesbian and Gay Judges. He CANNOT be trusted.
Pat Robinson screwed up royally.
sinsing on November 15, 2007 at 1:32 PM
Wow, that’s a blowout. Way too many New Yawkers have been moving down here, increasing everyday exposure to them and their ideas/influences and all, but geez…. 31% is a huge # for a primary.
RW Wacko on November 15, 2007 at 1:34 PM
You’re so right. Everything I don’t want to see in the Repubs:
-More religion in politics. Check
-Newfound love of tax and spend. Check
-Nannystating. Check
-Global Warming fearmonger nonsense. Check
-Corruption and good-ol’boy nonsense. Check
-Open borders shamnesty proponent. Check
Good God, it can’t get much worse.
RW Wacko on November 15, 2007 at 1:37 PM
Except that I will bet that there isn’t a single tough question asked of her Thighness in this debate. Her staff has made sure that never happens again.
Gregor on November 15, 2007 at 1:37 PM
Love the comment someone posted regarding the title of the article: “Poll: Giuliani Tops Florida”…..
Hah, yeah I can see him in an Eddie Murphy moment as a bottom, no doubt. Larry Flynt, where are you?
RW Wacko on November 15, 2007 at 1:40 PM
How does one reconcile this Doubleganger Huckabee
saying on his web site such things as:
The Governor opposes and will not tolerate employers who hire illegals. They must be punished with fines and penalties so large that they will see it is not worth the risk.
with the Huckabee who took so many contributions from Tyson Foods and basically said that anyone who did no roll out the red carpet for illegals is anti- American and anti-Christian.
I am still waiting for someone in the media or one of the other candidates to do a compare and contrast on this. This man has either had the biggest across the board change of heart on illegal “immigration” that I have ever seen or is the biggest liar that I have ever seen. Those are the only two possibilities.

I hope Wolf Blitzer lives up to his tough talk.
There is hope.

MB4 on November 15, 2007 at 1:47 PM
Yes, it can; the least of our guys, with the possible exception of Ron Paul (who isn’t one of our guys anyway, let’s be honest), is still better than the best of their guys; don’t forget that.
And whatever you do, don’t accept a drink from Ron Paul, and never go with a Paultard to a second location!
Kensington on November 15, 2007 at 1:49 PM
Hey, a lot of people who usually disagree vehemently are united on this.
Mike Huckabee: Bringing people together.

MSM WANTs Huck to run against Hillary. That’s why they’re propping him now.
stenwin77 on November 15, 2007 at 1:50 PM
I would vote for George, John, and Ringo, before Paul. That clod is a wackjob.
saved on November 15, 2007 at 1:52 PM
It’d be nice, though, if he could have made his veiled warning without also giving campaign advice.
It’s not wrong of the Clinton’s to make their threats just because it could hamper the Democrats’ chances next year.
Kensington on November 15, 2007 at 1:52 PM
I predict that Wolf will bare some fangs tonight. Little baby fangs, but he’s not going to ask her about her favorite cookie recipes.
It could be wishful thinking, but I sense that people are sick of being pushed around by the Clintons and they may feel strong enough to finally tell them to sod off. Certainly Obama and Edwards aren’t going to give her a pass, so all in all it should be an entertaining evening.
Buy Danish on November 15, 2007 at 1:53 PM
So his 29,000 sq ft house wasn’t big enough for him? Or was it that he didn’t like living across from some common folks? Or has he found a barber who will give him an $800 haircut if he flies out to him?
MB4 on November 15, 2007 at 1:54 PM
You may be right. Pump and dump. Holding back with this till if he gets the nomination and then unload. Hillary would destroy him.
MB4 on November 15, 2007 at 2:06 PM
How can any conservative support Huckabee. I think this is reaching the point where someone like Rush needs to step in and inform the base on who this guy really is.
Patriot33 on November 15, 2007 at 3:27 PM
Unfortunately, I get the sense Rush likes Huckabee! It’s hard to believe since no one hates the food police and global warming alarmists more than Rush and I’ve never known him to veer from his principles.
Here’s what he said yesterday:
This is the story he was referring to.
I’m dumbfounded and hope that its just a case of my antennae needing a tune up, and that I am misreading him.
Buy Danish on November 15, 2007 at 3:52 PM
HOWARD BEALE/JEROME CORSI!!!
(let’s see who’s old enough to get the reference).

Amazed how many people have been suckered into hating Huckabee by the Club for Growth….
I’ll admit, they are effective. Sadly, they do so by sacrificing their ethics.
EduardoOTI on November 15, 2007 at 4:20 PM
Anybody but Huckabee.
And I seriously hope Edwards doesn’t get the Dem nomination either. If Wolf wanted to spread around the tough questions tonight, he could ask Edwards whether he will support the Democratic Nominee if it isn’t him. That would be fun to watch.
Dudley Smith on November 15, 2007 at 4:30 PM
Stop that!
Nobody hates Huckabee and the views of him are because of him, not because of the so called “Club for Growth”.
MB4 on November 15, 2007 at 4:32 PM
Okay, instead of telling us how easily fooled we are for believing the word of a respected, non-partisan advocacy organization, how about you tell us why exactly you support Governor Huckabee and convince us to do the same.
Slublog on November 15, 2007 at 4:44 PM
That isn’t bait for me. The first thing I thought was that Mitt isn’t getting a very good return on his money. I expect the long knives will come out and Mitt will attack his immigration, tax and spend, and nanny state policies. Huck will have to spend his limited funds to counter those ads, and he will just fade away.
BUT, the right message will ALWAYS win out over money, and Huck may be able to pull it off.
I love this stuff. Bare knuckle politics!
csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 5:19 PM
With Mitt it’s more like:
*puts on dueling glove*
Good Day sir, *slap*
I find your stances on immigration *slap*, taxes *slap*, and special interests *slap*, to be appauling.
Your one-liners are juvenile *slap* and unfit for the seriousness of a presidential campaign *slap*.
Have a wonderful evening. *slap*
*Mitt puts dueling glove away*
