Eliot Spitzer: Let’s release criminals by the dozen!

NY Gov Eliot Spitzer has to be a Rove plant. Or, just your typical out-of-touch liberal Democrat. Fresh from a stinging defeat on licenses for illegal aliens, he wants to levy taxes on internet purchases just in time for Christmas, and he’s releasing violent criminals from prison like it’s going out of style.
New York parole officials are speeding up the release of hard-core criminals who spent decades behind bars - including violent murderers and cop killers.
Parole boards under Gov. Spitzer are springing jailbirds at a far higher rate than they did during Gov. George Pataki’s administration, state Division of Parole figures show…
Parole Board spokesman Mark Johnson insisted there is no mandate for commissioners to release more inmates and “no directive to tell anybody to behave any differently.”
Yet state figures show that while Pataki’s parole boards released A-1 felons at a 3% to 5% rate between 2000 and 2005, in the first 10 months of this year the release rate climbed to 10%.
Asked to explain the increase, one Spitzer insider said, “The commissioners may feel freer now to exercise their discretion. The only thing we expect of our agencies and our commissioners is to follow the law.”
Senate GOP leader Joe Bruno said reports of a higher inmate release rate “in the first year of the Spitzer administration are disturbing. We support longer sentences for convicted felons, especially for those who kill police officers.”
Evidently Gov. Spitzer doesn’t.

I was proud that New Yorkers stood so firmly against Spitzhead’s license plan, but the grim reality is that New York is one of perhaps 4 states in the union that could elect such a bozo to such high office.

Spitzer must have bought the “Governor for Dummies” book by Michael Dukakis.
Maybe Spitzer is the Duke’s love child?
TheBigOldDog on November 14, 2007 at 3:25 PM
Hang on to your hats boys and girls this is just a preview of Hillary’s time in the WH.

This is what you get when you elect Democrats…government by the criminals for the criminals.
Drew on November 14, 2007 at 3:27 PM
Well, of course! How do they expect these felons to vote if they aren’t out on the streets to get to the polls?
James on November 14, 2007 at 3:28 PM
Hmmm…now they just need some voting cards and voila!
Jim-Rose on November 14, 2007 at 3:30 PM
Let me take that back. “Bozo” gives him too much credit. His is a sniveling, sneering sleazeball who obviously believes the voters are idiots.
BillLalor on November 14, 2007 at 3:31 PM
Illegal incarcerated felons are people too! Why shouldn’t they vote? Don’t they have opinions, and rights? If we weren’t so mean, they wouldn’t be.
JiangxiDad on November 14, 2007 at 3:33 PM
Yes, they elected Deval Patrick here in MA. The good thing about Deval is he hasn’t done anything at all yet. Nothing. Nada. This is what we expected from Free ‘em all Deval.
Once he gets warmed up, I think we’re in trouble, but no news is good news so far.
reaganaut on November 14, 2007 at 3:37 PM
I think what should be now standard questions for Gov Spitzer are in order:
– Did you have any communications with the Commissioners about increasing or changing the numbers or frequency of paroling felons?
– Have you or any of your staff threatened any of them in any way after being sworn into office?
– Did you have or are you having any members of the State Police spy on any of the Commissioners?

What does he care? He lives in a nice neighborhood and has government protection services covering his a**. What’s it to him if some granny gets raped or some kid gets shot?
VolMagic on November 14, 2007 at 3:40 PM
Democrats
If one of their bad ideas fail, they’ll find something even stupider to do
He’s like the gift that keeps on giving

What is this freak smoking?
Wade on November 14, 2007 at 3:46 PM
All you guys need up there now is to get another idiot as mayor like Dingle(berry)……Oh wait, you have Bloomburg, same thing.
conservnut on November 14, 2007 at 3:46 PM
Er, keeping convicted criminals in the slammer might be a good way of following the law. Just a thought. And while you’re at it, take away their friggin cable tv!
fogw on November 14, 2007 at 3:49 PM
Unbelievable. This is one of the big issues that Ann Coulter gets right every time. She devotes whole chapters in her books to the compulsive need of liberals to release violent felons at the first opportunity. They can’t help themselves.
Kensington on November 14, 2007 at 4:00 PM
I hope this bites him the same way Willie Horton bit Dukakis 20 years ago.
MadisonConservative on November 14, 2007 at 4:05 PM
If only it would have bitten him in time…
Hey! Can I also point out that Brooklyn has gotten noticeably more violent this year? I got mugged two weeks ago right outside my Park Slope apartment building where I’ve lived for years without ever, ever feeling unsafe. The cops told me stories about violence in the area that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
God help NYC if the next mayor is a straight up Democrat. Having RINO Bloomberg is bad enough, but if a Spitzer type gets in? Oy.
Kensington on November 14, 2007 at 4:12 PM
So as long as the parole commissioners follow all the procedures the Spitzer administration doesn’t take issue with the number of dangerous felons being released back into society?
That’s interesting logic. Just because a killer is eligible for parole that doesn’t mean he/she should get it. How many times has RFK’s killer come up for parole? 13 I think. Too bad for Sirhan Sirhan the Ambassador Hotel wasn’t in NY State or that Hillary didn’t need the PLO vote when she was out peddling pardons to terrorists back in 2000.
highhopes on November 14, 2007 at 4:20 PM
It will only take one killer released under the Spitzer watch going on a murder spree. Particulary if children are killed as a result of the spree (God willing that won’t happen). I note with some bemusement that the Spitzer mouthpiece attributes the rise in releases to commissioners being freer than they were under that evil old George Pataki. Not once did this moron consider that perhaps there was a legitimate reason the number of parolees was half of what it is under Governor Dingbat.

Bryan - didn’t you get the memo from Karl??. Mum’s the word.
Put it in “the vault.” We have Eliot scheduled for continuous screwups thoughout the 2008 campaign season - IF we can keep it undercover!

Thank you so muh for the hat tip and link Bryan. Is really awesome you did that

Actually, I don’t. I don’t want anyone to be robbed, raped or lose their life so that Spitzer can be driven from office.
No doubt you don’t mean it that way either, MC, which is why it is clear this law flouting, criminal sympathizing, felon enabling, meglomaniacal Democratic Party governor with abolsutist tendencies needs to have his conduct in office reviewed with a fine-toothed comb and as soon as it has been satisfactorially proven his conduct makes him unfit for office, he should be thrown out of the Governor’s mansion at the soonest possible moment.
He can then go back to his daddy paid penthouse to live out his days in ignominy and, if he wants, though I doubt it, embarrassment.
Dusty on November 14, 2007 at 5:06 PM
Well, now we have more to ask her thighness about.

want to takeyour guns away…There that’s better, we’re talking about New York here.
Oldnuke on November 14, 2007 at 5:32 PM
They’re probably handing out voter registration when they stamp their parole papers. Spitzer may be a good bet for Hillary’s AG.
Oldnuke on November 14, 2007 at 5:35 PM
Now Rudy says: this is what happens when a liberal takes over. All of my hard work of cleaning up NY and taking criminals off the street…and a liberal comes along and releases them, tries to give licenses to illegal immigrants, tax the internet.
This is a gift for Rudy.
right2bright on November 14, 2007 at 5:47 PM
Gosh, this gift keeps on giving. Unfortunately this gift can’t be returned. So this former AG, mister law and order, decides to let prisoners walk. He is right now positioning himself for the Dem nod in 2016

I happen to live in NY and, all the jokes, etc pretty much fall on deaf ears. Of course, I didn’t vote for the guy. The fact that I will suffer for him just makes me want to move out of here faster. It really is too bad that the housing situation is in the dumper or I would put our house on the market tomorrow.

That internet tax is a joke. I’d love to see Amazon charge the tax, but put a note there on the web page saying they will put the money into escrow, and when the tax is overturned the customer will get a refund.
pedestrian on November 14, 2007 at 6:18 PM
Wow rove you magnificent bastard you plan is working perfectly soon spitzder will piss off enough people in the blue state of NY that they will see and vote red.
Mojack420 on November 14, 2007 at 9:26 PM
Did you see this? Spitzer Abandons Amazon Tax
Two reversals in 24 hours.
I think Spitzer’s budget director mis-spoke when he said:
Spitzer promised not to raise taxes, right?
right?
ITmonkey on November 15, 2007 at 9:37 AM
I’m so glad I did not vote for this idiot (apologies to real idiots).
