Comedy gold: Rick Sanchez has an aneurysm over the McCain “bitch” video

posted at 4:05 pm on November 14, 2007 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | regular view

How excessive is it? Enough to earn a scathing press release from the most media-friendly politician in America. I encourage you to compare it to TPM’s post yesterday unveiling the video to the world. The lefty hatchet men are a model of restraint compared to Sanchez trying, by sheer force of will, to turn this into McCain’s “macaca” moment.

Not only has the clip been edited for brevity but I had to cut an entire second segment they did with Whoopi Goldberg, who phoned in after Amy Holmes accused her here of having called George Bush the “c-word” at that notorious Kerry fundraiser back in 2004. Not true; as it turns out, Whoopi confined herself to a series of very tasteful, very clever “bush” puns. Don’t you feel foolish now, Amy?

One other point. Watch Sanchez seize on the fact that McCain apparently qualified his respect for Hillary by saying he’ll respect whomever the Democrats nominate, which, to Sanchez, means he respects Hillary about as much as he does Mr. Magoo. Am I the only who remembers McCain offering this at the last debate, while everyone else onstage was competing to see who could rip her most memorably?

Let me just say that I know and respect Senator Clinton.

The debate that I have between me and her will be based on national security, on fiscal conservatism, and on social conservatism. It will be a respectful debate. That is what the American people want.

I skipped the part at the end of the show where he read the answers to his mad libs invitation. It was simply … too painful.

So when do the White House tapes from 93-00 detailing how flowery Bill and Hill’s language were regarding others?

Sorry amnesty was McCain’s macaca moment. He doesn’t really need another one.

McCain-Feingold wasn’t too pretty either…

Heh. Welcome to HotAir, son!

I have no doubt whatsoever that Sanchez — whoever the hell he is — pees sitting down.

Jaibones on November 14, 2007 at 4:19 PM

What an idiot. (Sanchez… well, and McCain too.)

This is a fantastic example of the media creating a story where one really doesn’t exist.

Ahhhhh, the talk of political pigs in perpetuity. Either he detests her, and is lying. Or, he respects her, and is a fool.

I don’t respect anything concerning the most vile political figure of my 49 years on this earth. She, and those like her, will be the destruction of my country.

OhEssYouCowboys on November 14, 2007 at 4:22 PM

Time for Two Important Declarations

1. McCain is a good man, and a tough politician, and I would be damned happy to support him for President against any single Democrat currently running, or presently sitting in elected office in the House or Senate.

2. We — the Republicans — have five candidates currently running for President who are infinitely better choices for the Presidency than anyone running for the Dhimmis: Mitt, Rudy, Duncan, Huck, and, I guess, Fred.

This silliness about a lady calling Hillary a bitch at a McCain event is … silly. Of course she’s a bitch. Her husband refers to her as a bitch.

Jaibones on November 14, 2007 at 4:24 PM

(Uh, oh) Mitt, Rudy, McCain, Duncan, Huck, and I guess, Fred.

Jaibones on November 14, 2007 at 4:25 PM

McCain was so flustered it was almost embarrassing watching him try to recoup. To pretend that he somehow endorses callin Hillary a biatch after seeing his reaction is ridiculous

Keli on November 14, 2007 at 4:26 PM

Whats the big deal? Sanchez is always having a nuclear-powered hissy fit about somethingorother.

Its a major story when he ISN’T whining about something at the top of his lungs.

And he is evidently what the dinosaurs at CNN view as the “next wave”. Or their version of Oberdork. God help us.

Always Right on November 14, 2007 at 4:26 PM

OK, who is this douche again?

Jaibones on November 14, 2007 at 4:26 PM

Sanchez’s eagerness is more embarrassing than anything the elderly McCain supporter said or how McCain handled it. The bias is literally dripping off this douchebag’s chin.

darwin on November 14, 2007 at 4:26 PM

The Clinton News Network’s Rick Sanchez has surely got his panties in a twist. Listen to the emotion in his voice, his little heart is broken. I think this may have been too much for him, perhaps he should take some time off… or at least a time out.

Maxx on November 14, 2007 at 4:29 PM

Does this guy act this way every time someone says something nasty about the President?

Are we allowed to call a member of the media on HA an overwrought, ridiculous, disingenous little butt pirate?

peacenprosperity on November 14, 2007 at 4:30 PM

Question: Why is it that everyone knows who the woman is asking about? That’s not McCains fault.

McCain did respond well by saying he respects any elected democrat. For some reason, Chavez doesn’t want to think that a republican can respectfully disagree with a democrat.

Classic example of hearing what he wants to hear.

Someone get Sanchez some smelling salts – poor dear has a case of the vapors.

That said, what is it about McCain that brings out the, er, regrettable on-air soundbyte moment from older women? (Perhaps the questioner in this clip is McCain’s aunt.)

sulla on November 14, 2007 at 4:35 PM

He didn’t say it, so to fill in the blank, appropriate is my answer.

Kini on November 14, 2007 at 4:35 PM

Good one, my reaction, too. What a puss.

RW Wacko on November 14, 2007 at 4:37 PM

PUH-LEEZE, CNN. No-one cares that he answered the question that way. The women who are “upset” by that were NOT voting for him anyway.

Also, important to point out that Amy Holmes, who gives in and claims she found the B-word offensive, was a regular contributor to The Montel Williams Show. Most of what goes on on that show (on which I made the mistake of appearing) is far more offensive than John McCain’s innocuous response. I’m frankly offended that CNN picks a pro-choice Montel contributor, who admitted to voting for Clinton twice and Al Gore (yep, Holmes did that), as their “conservative” analyst. If that’s conservative, what ain’t?

Frankly, if McCain answered that he was really offended by her question, then that should lose him votes.

Debbie Schlussel on November 14, 2007 at 4:40 PM

Frankly, if McCain answered that he was really offended by her question, then that should lose him votes

lol …

darwin on November 14, 2007 at 4:43 PM

I saw an earlier segment on CNN. What ticked me off most is the fact that they don’t say the word ‘bitch’.

Bitch. Bitch! Bitch!!! Bitch. Bitch.

We’re adults. The lady said ‘BITCH!’ Use the word ‘bitch!’ I’m not 10 years old.

As to McCain, I would have laughed if he replied that he wasn’t expecting Edwards to get the nomination.

Canadian Infidel on November 14, 2007 at 4:45 PM

“… you’re a conservative and I am supposed to ask you the tough questions …”

And you’re a liberal. Conservatives can answer tough questions; that’s why she’s there.

“… thats the problem …”

Yeah, the problem for Rick Sanchez, Clinton shill.

“… from women, especially the ones I’ve been talking to in the news room …”

A Liberal reporter who has to hide the fact he is voicing his own opinion by hiding it behind the opinion of liberal women reporters living in the Democratic Closet called CNN.

Dusty on November 14, 2007 at 4:47 PM

I don’t watch CNN, do I don’t know much about this Clinton campaigner/anchor Rick Sanchez. However, I literally laughed out loud when he all indignantly says, “he’s talking about a fellow senator” as if there’s any decorum left in DC. Has this insipid little clown ever heard how the members of HIS party (and yes, come on, this guy is such a democrat) routinely refer to the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES — not to mention the VP? Where’s his frosty indignation when they call President Bush a nazi, a liar, a war monger? I wonder what his reaction was when a dem House member said — ON THE FLOOR OF THE US HOUSE — that Bush likes to see US soldiers blown up “for his amusement.” What a transparent little POS partisan hack this fella is.

Sanchez is an idiot and you can see he is trying so hard to make something of this. If I had been McCain I would have laughed and said she’s not a bitch, but a lying bitch…and then just laughed big time.

I’m disappointed that McCain stated that he has respect for Hillary…uh I mean that Bitch! :)

If McCain has repect for Hillary, then that makes me question his judgment.

Thanks

Rick,

It was interesting viewing your performance regarding the comment made to John McCain. Unfortunately I missed your going apoplectic about the nasty things that get said about the President on a regular basis.

I guess that since you have come out of the closet we will see you in Clinton campaign adds. Don’t worry about your objectivity being doubted, since you work for cnn no one ever thought you had any.

Have a great evening

CNN is awesome these days. Rich Sanchez is so sensational. I think he’d be perfect for Entertainment Tonight.

gabriel sutherland on November 14, 2007 at 5:07 PM

What’s the problem? McCain didn’t use the word, a woman did!

It’s about time someone was honest.

RMCS_USN on November 14, 2007 at 5:08 PM

Woweee. Sanchez, wasn’t he canned by MSNBC?

That idiot just made a mountain out of a molecule.

fogw on November 14, 2007 at 5:10 PM

I was under the impression that Sen. McCain called her a bitch, as it turns out, it was a woman in the audience asking him a question. The reporter is right, the Sen. should have had the woman tazered, and arrested for voicing her opinion, when will they understand there’s no room for freedom of speech in politics.

striper1 on November 14, 2007 at 5:11 PM

Anyone who has never heard Hillary Clinton referred to as a (not waiting for moderation) ‘b-word’ has no place working in the media…did he just crawl out of a fallout shelter or something?

James on November 14, 2007 at 5:16 PM

Rick Sanchez was an idiot when he worked for local news, Channel 7, in South Florida, and moving to CNN has made him a bigger idiot.

As you can see in his CNN reports he is a ’screamer’. He has to project his voice very loudly to make the impression that everything he reports is a major crisis.

He also tried to be a Mike Wallace clone doing investigative reporting. His reports was more like watching a short of the Keystone Kops than an investigative report.

You should see the video of his reporting on the first Gulf War for Channel 7 News in Miami. Locals referred to him as the ‘Crappy Gulf War Reporter’. The map of the Middle East was projected on the floor and wall so Rick was standing on the Middle East. As he reported incidents he would squat down, to point at the location, but it made him look like he was doing the #2 on the Middle East. ‘Crappy’ also referred to the quality of his reports. He constantly made stupid mistakes and false reports that the station and he had to apologize for and make corrections.

Helloyawl on November 14, 2007 at 5:17 PM

“It might become viral and be a problem for McCain”
“Go to CNN. com to check out the video”

Sanchez was also confident that the “women in the newsroom” who found it offensive are typical of most Americans. Heh.

VolMagic on November 14, 2007 at 5:22 PM

What a pussy.

pat on November 14, 2007 at 5:22 PM

McCain said: “I respect Senator Clinton, I respect anyone who gets the nomination of the Democrat party . . .”

To which Sanchez, being the intellectual he isn’t,analyzed that to mean: “He respects her, but only respects her if she gets the nomination of the democratic party . . .”

Huh?!!

Artificial outrage from an artificial pundit.

geckomon on November 14, 2007 at 5:29 PM

McCain’s handling of the (eek!) “B question” tells me that little Ricky Sanchez makes Matt Lauer look like Steve McQueen.

Teddy on November 14, 2007 at 5:31 PM

Making a story where there is none

Kini on November 14, 2007 at 5:36 PM

My note to Mr. Sanchez:

You, Sir, are an idiot. Senator McCain, who I do not support, has no control over the language of his questioners, unlike Senator Clinton. He made a point of stating his respect (which I do NOT share) for the woman who has used worse language and been called worse by her husband, I suspect. I think the lady’s question was perfect – concise and easy to understand. Senator McCain addressed the important part of it at length, the part about winning the election.
Maybe you should find another line of work if you think this is so upsetting. It ain’t; not to grownups, and certainly not to conservatives. I submit you belong to neither group.

Longhorn Six on November 14, 2007 at 5:38 PM

Man, I agree with Sanchez here, his theatrics aside. McCain should have said that what the woman said doesn’t have a place in the discussion. Our society has sunk so low that calling someone a bitch or p@ssy or f@ggot is somehow a substitute for rational argument. The reason McCain has a problem with this, is that his positions are so close to Hillary, that his supporters use her personal attributes to pump him up.

sweeper on November 14, 2007 at 5:47 PM

I’m so sick of the childish…”b-word”, “n-word”, “f-word”. I know you can’t say f–k on TV but it’s so little kid. Say the Goddamn word.

LtE126 on November 14, 2007 at 5:56 PM

Man, I agree with Sanchez here, his theatrics aside. McCain should have said that what the woman said doesn’t have a place in the discussion.

That wouldn’t have meant squat to Sanchez. If McCain had called the woman out for her language Sanchez would have created a completely different spin in order to lay into McCain.

“Sure he called her on it, but still, it’s a reflection of the type of people who support McCain. And that’s bad news for his campaign.”

See how it works.

It’s CNN stupid.
