Bush-bashing bridge babes buffaloed!

Tom Wolfe trying to satirize the absurdity of modern “dissent” couldn’t do any better than this. Feeble, cliched, solipsistic, consumed with foreign opinion, and capable of being vented during even the most ridiculously benign activities. To top it you’d need to come up with “Birdwatchers Against the War” or something.

[A] team of women who represented the United States at the world bridge championships in Shanghai last month is facing sanctions, including a yearlong ban from competition, for a spur-of-the-moment protest.

At issue is a crudely lettered sign, scribbled on the back of a menu, that was held up at an awards dinner and read, “We did not vote for Bush.”…

“What we were trying to say, not to Americans but to our friends from other countries, was that we understand that they are questioning and critical of what our country is doing these days, and we want you to know that we, too, are critical,” Ms. Greenberg said, stressing that she was speaking for herself and not her six teammates…

Ms. Greenberg said she decided to put up the sign in response to questions from players from other countries about American interrogation techniques, the war in Iraq and other foreign policy issues.

“There was a lot of anti-Bush feeling, questioning of our Iraq policy and about torture,” Ms. Greenberg said. “I can’t tell you it was an overwhelming amount, but there were several specific comments, and there wasn’t the same warmth you usually feel at these events.”

Scroll down three-quarters of the way here for photos. As a cherry on the absurdity sundae, the bridge federation wants to suspend them for a year, followed by another year of probation, plus community service, plus an apology written by the federation’s own lawyer. I’ve got a better idea: How about a simple press release noting that anyone who can’t get through a card game without declaring his or her opposition to the Bushitler is an abject moron?

We end with a bit of related eye candy. Julie B. will always have my heart but with this clip and the affected hostility she gins up towards the bridge players, Megyn Kelly officially becomes my favorite Fox babe.

Americans who pander and slander? Never forgive! Never, ever, ever forgive!

“Ms. Greenberg said, stressing that she was speaking for herself and not her six teammates…”

so dosen’t this genius know the difference between the words “we” and “i”? she knows how to play bridge but has no understanding of the english language.

the bridge federation wants to suspend them for a year, followed by another year of probation, plus community service, plus an apology written by the federation’s own lawyer.

A chill wind is blowing throughout this once great nation, crushing the dissent of those brave bridge players who dared to speak truth to power.

Dudley Smith on November 14, 2007 at 11:17 AM

I’ve always thought Megyn Kelly was the hottest.

Oh, wait…there was a political angle to this post…what was it again?

How about a simple press release noting that anyone who can’t get through a card game without declaring his or her opposition to the Bushitler is an abject moron?

That pretty much says it all.

Bush-bashing bridge babes buffaloed!

I bet there is a headline writer at the NY Post right now who is jealous that he didn’t think of that first.

What an ugly woman. No wonder she has BDS. Hey, Pig Face, how about telling the questioneers they shouldn’t believe everything they read in thier home countries government controlled media.

Is that her kid standing next to her? If it is you can imagine what a screwed up dysfunctional human being he will grow up to be. No doubt a future participant in the flosom street festival.

Obviously, these women play bridge all night and watch “The View” in the morning.

I don’t usually speak to a persons physical attractiveness, or lack thereof, but those broads look like they get beat with the ugly stick on a regular basis. Definitely two baggers. One for their head and one to puke in.

When Megan changed her name to Kelly, I thought there was one lucky dude out there. Then I found out she went back to her maiden name and imagined all the guys whose hopes were just raised a notch or three.

csdeven on November 14, 2007 at 11:35 AM

This is what you do when you’re dealt a bad hand in the brains department.

I concur on Megyn Kelly. She’s smokin’, as are about a dozen of the women from Fox.

Of course, we all knew that already…

You want angry, show that clip of Julie B. and that vile creature from the Fred Phelps clan.

JammieWearingFool on November 14, 2007 at 11:36 AM

Good thing those ugly hags can play bridge.

And suddenly, the participation in Bridge spikes among the libtards. Let them reap what they have sown.

Mallard T. Drake on November 14, 2007 at 11:39 AM

I love how the woman holding the sign stresses she was “speaking only for herself” and not her teammates, when the sign reads “WE did not vote for Bush”…nice try, lady.

And why are you giving them a link for this? I’m confused.

lorien1973 on November 14, 2007 at 11:42 AM

So “Ms. Greenberg” would have us believe that a gaggle of bridge enthusiasts were asking about U.S. interrogation techniques?

Of course they were, honey… I suppose next you’re going to try and tell us they were asking you all for beauty tips, too…

D2Boston on November 14, 2007 at 11:43 AM

About a year and a half back, a friend of mine pointed out that there were a lot of beaver shots on the Fox babes. Sure enough, the camera would go to one of them and their legs would be open and then they’d cross their legs real fast. I doubt this was planned on their part and I don’t see how camera operators or a director would be that unawares of what they were switching to. I guess it don’t matter, but it definitely was happening and it made for some interesting viewing. Sadly, they have ceased the practice. :-(

lorien1973 on November 14, 2007 at 11:52 AM

“What we were trying to say, not to Americans but to our friends from other countries…”

Ever notice how these juvenile, seditious twits seemingly always choose to shat themselves while on foreign soil?

Same goes for American celebs in interviews with foreign magazines… ’cause nothing’s more important than ensuring some reporter for Der Spiegel likes you, I mean, really likes you.

saint kansas on November 14, 2007 at 11:54 AM

If you are going to do something that makes you the “Pete Rose” of competitive bridge, you shouldn’t be so stupid as to squander the opportunity bashing a man who has just over a year left in office!

Beyond that, I find it very hard to believe that these women (???) were assailed by legions of international bridge players demanding to know why our intelligence community waterboards suspected terrorists.

highhopes on November 14, 2007 at 11:55 AM

Megyn’s OK, but Julie B still RULES.

Lets not forget Courtney Friel…

Ban the Bridge team from travel ever again, lest they burn more bridges.

shooter on November 14, 2007 at 11:56 AM

I love how she ends by saying this controversy was all an “unexpected development.” I’m sorry, but the revelation that there was an International Bridge tournament was itself an unexpected development. For me anyway.

Wow, look at those gargoyles. I’m glad bridge competitions don’t have a swimsuit portion.

Verbal Abuse on November 14, 2007 at 11:59 AM

Bridge has to have a federation? A federation of what otherwise independent bridge-playing groups?

Wouldn’t an association be enough for a craptacular card game well on its way to the dungheap of history?

Dudley Smith on November 14, 2007 at 12:03 PM

My gawd. Look at what this stupid debate about “waterboarding” has done to Americans. We still don’t know if anyone has been waterboarded by the employees of the American government and here are f’n bridge team is basing their placards on the assumption that we have done it.

Where’s Patches O’Houlihan when you need him to huck wrenches at people?

Dudley Smith on November 14, 2007 at 12:03 PM

afterwards :P

lorien1973 on November 14, 2007 at 12:12 PM

Wow, that’s a good-looking woman holding the sign; it’s hard to imagine someone like her would align herself with the disaffected antisocial Moonbat left.

Kensington on November 14, 2007 at 12:16 PM

I hate to say it but if my mother in law were 20 years younger she could have been the one holding up that sign… She was a big, big bridge player in her time, winning all kinds of competitions in the States and a huge lib. She never saw a social tax that she didn’t love…
Funny how I remember the first Christmas that I met my husband. We were both in our early 20’s. His mother bagged the holiday to play cards somewhere. My husband ate left over spaghetti on Christmas day… What a gal!

Babs on November 14, 2007 at 12:19 PM

Thanks to this incident, the game of Bridge has now gotten more publicity than all the publicity it has gotten in the history of the world up to this point.
This was abviously a Rovian plot.

abinitioadinfinitum on November 14, 2007 at 12:23 PM

Remember back in the day when “torture” didn’t mean hurting someone’s feeling or scarin’ em a little… it meant like removing fingers, squishing thumbs, ripping fingernails, stretchin’ bones… you know, stuff that leaves a mark. Bad guys are such sissies these days…

Fighting Eyeball on November 14, 2007 at 12:26 PM

There should be some kind of intervention for people who don’t outgrow “It wasn’t me” by the time they’re 10.

What he said.

As to Ms. Kelly, she’s certainly got the “righteous indignation” thing down pat. It’s appropriate in this case, but as with everything else in the TV business, it’s impossible to tell whether it’s sincere or an act. TV being what it is, “act” is more likely than not.

Splashman on November 14, 2007 at 12:27 PM

OK, after a bit of reflection…WTF?

They were up on the stage to receive medals of some sort…meaning they either won or placed highly in the tournament. This is where you have bragging rights, where you get to be all in-your-face to your scrub competitors about your badass self and your team. You get up there and you start pumping your fist and yell, “USA, USA…we’ll waterboard your asses next year, too!” You don’t go up there and give the losers any hint of moral superiority by disassociating yourself from your country.

Ms. Greenberg…you’ve changed, man…you used to be all about the cards.

peacenprosperity on November 14, 2007 at 11:20 AM

Hahaha, all these foreigners asking us questions ’cause of their scepticism of their government controlled media and her answer was, basically, ‘it’s true, those government controlled media are publishing what we read in our media’.

What she won’t tell them is that their government controlled media is publishing what our media have reported, often after changing some words in the stories in our media and calling it their own independent reporting. But she can’t tell them that because she’s just as clueless as they are.

The difference is they have an excuse, she doesn’t.

Dusty on November 14, 2007 at 12:33 PM

Speaking of our friends from other countries, excuse the #$*& out of me if I don’t feel compelled to apologize for “what our country is doing these days.”

Good point. Anyone else remember Saddam’s execution as described in the Times of London?

“To Hell,” another spectator bellowed. The scene had begun to resemble a medieval execution or a wild hanging in Texas.

That’s right… Saddam is hanged in an Iraqi prison by Iraqis, and to a British reporter it resembles a good ol’ down-home “wild hanging in Texas.”

It must have been shocking beyond words, being Iraq’s first experience with execution and all.

That is why I love when our Presidents wear Cowboy Hats. It makes the rest of the world wonder if at any minute America could go postal on them. Gives them a bit of caution when messing with America. Keeps them on their toes. IMHO, I think we need a little more of that fear in the hearts of our enemies.

abinitioadinfinitum on November 14, 2007 at 1:04 PM

I think it’s cute that the bridge ladies thought that the Chinese would understand what they meant by “vote for Bush”. That’s just precious.

progressoverpeace on November 14, 2007 at 1:14 PM

The bridge ladies are not much different from Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times. Only a few years ago, Kristof wrote one of his sleep inducing columns about his travels. This time the intrepid Kristof was in Iran. He say some Iranian secret police stopped him and asked him if he (Kristof) worked for the United States or Israel. Kristof says that he proudly told his Iranian interrogators that “I would never work for Bush or Sharon”. Then Kristof and his Iranian interrogators all bonded.

I mean what kind of fascist regime is he running anyway. You would think by now Bush would have had at least a couple of million moonbats on rendetion flights out of the country. With only 14 months left when will Bush take action?

chief on November 14, 2007 at 1:31 PM

And oh, how it always comes down to a free speech issue.

Let me break it to ya gently, people…private organizations such as this do not have to uphold your ‘freedom of speech.” The Constitution doesn’t say a darned thing about that.

mikeyboss on November 14, 2007 at 3:17 PM

Megyn is my favorite because I think she’s not only the hottest but also the brightest of the bunch. However I think she’s Brit Hume’s girl now. She still wears a ring on the wedding ringfinger (indicates to me she’s taken).

I’d be shocked if she were still single though.

Anyway these people don’t realize that people from other countries don’t respect people who don’t respect their leaders. Go to any Thai restaurant and you’ll see a picture of their royal family. They’ll never say anything negative about them. These people in China did not get MORE respect for this act, they got less.

AND I want to bring up that this is why the USA should not even be talking about ‘torture’. What happens in war is hell and us talking about torture and what is or what isn’t or whether we do or don’t should be off limits. I don’t want them to know whether or not we torture. If we don’t torture, I want them to think that we do anyway so they’ll act right.
