Video: Freaky blue blob darts around gas station

posted at 9:25 am on November 13, 2007 by Bryan

It’s an X-File!

A strange blue cloud seen floating and darting around customers, freezing for 30 minutes and then speeding from an Ohio gas station, remains unexplained even though it was caught on security cams.

The ghostly image was seen moving near and over cars at a Marathon gas station located near the corner of State Road and Pleasant Valley in Parma on Sunday.

The video is indeed on the freaky side, though I’d guess it’s probably a moth on the lens. Click on the image to head over to watch the video.

Looks like one of those tricks with a laser pen to me.

AteMyFoot on November 13, 2007 at 9:33 AM

Huh. Looks like a fish.

JasonG on November 13, 2007 at 9:35 AM

Oooooh… freaky!

I vote for bug on the lens too.

So now Bush has gotten together with aliens and are infiltrating gas stations.
I knew it was all about oil…

right2bright on November 13, 2007 at 9:39 AM

Whatever it is, it is on the glass of the security cam. Maybe fuzz from a blue paper towel

bnelson44 on November 13, 2007 at 9:45 AM

bug

Attila (Pillage Idiot)

Kucinich, bug… same thing.

rockbend on November 13, 2007 at 9:48 AM

Possibly bug…but why is it blue is the question?

MadisonConservative on November 13, 2007 at 9:49 AM

Possibly bug…but why is it blue is the question

Because it’s a blue bug?

Rod on November 13, 2007 at 9:51 AM

The truth is out there.

Possibly bug…but why is it blue is the question?

Duh… because it’s the ghost of a dead bug.

saint kansas on November 13, 2007 at 9:58 AM

It’s a bug.

I like the Kucinich theory though!

TwinkietheKid on November 13, 2007 at 9:59 AM

because it’s the ghost of a dead bug.
saint kansas on November 13, 2007 at 9:58 AM

It’s depressed.

csdeven on November 13, 2007 at 10:03 AM

It’s some kind of bug on the camera lens, you can tell by the way it moves…. like a bug. Ghosts are much more graceful in their movement…. no ?

“…but why is it blue is the question”

[MadisonConservative on November 13, 2007 at 9:49 AM]

I can’t say for sure. I can’t even get the vid to play. But I’m going to suggest the possibility of metal halide lamps. They produce a bluish-white light. The rest may be way in which the light is coming in all directions, causing the dark spot that would normally appear because of the moth blocking the the overwhelming bright white light to allow the residual blue to appear due to refraction(?) from a wide angle.

Then again moths have a flourescent-like dust which depending on color might help to make it look blue.

Dusty on November 13, 2007 at 10:07 AM

Haha, so this guy watched the video for 30 minutes? Was he watching live?

He didn’t think to go outside and look at the lens?

reaganaut on November 13, 2007 at 10:09 AM

I was under the impression people had actually seen it not just on the security camera.

A strange blue cloud seen floating and darting around customers, freezing for 30 minutes and then speeding from an Ohio gas station..

The ghostly image was seen moving near and over cars at a Marathon gas station located near the corner of State Road and Pleasant Valley in Parma on Sunday…

Security video then shows it coming back and resting on a car window before floating away…

That’s how I took it, anyway. It’s difficult to tell from how the article is constructed if they mean people actually saw it moving around the cars, or it only appeared to on the tape.

Is this the same ghost that pushed those flags down toward Hillary?

VRWC

Wade on November 13, 2007 at 10:19 AM

What is inexplicable is why a ghost moves just like an insect on the lens of a camera. Sneaky!

Bigfoot on November 13, 2007 at 10:18 AM

Hahahaha! Nice.

ronsfi on November 13, 2007 at 10:27 AM

It moves like a fish. That’s much weirder than a ghost.

saint kansas on November 13, 2007 at 10:16 AM

Good one.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on November 13, 2007 at 10:33 AM

Its blue, but only the camera can see it. I saw an investigation of something similar a while back. It turned out to be a spider. Being right on the lense does a pretty good job of distorting the outline and the color.

taznar on November 13, 2007 at 10:48 AM

Someone needs to flick that blue feather off of the camera lens.

RMCS_USN on November 13, 2007 at 11:35 AM

It’s so obviously a bug with wings… when it turns around it flicks its wings out for a moment

j_ehman on November 13, 2007 at 11:41 AM

Why can’t it just be a ghost, with a message or just killing time…? I love ghosts etc…

Rugged Individual on November 13, 2007 at 11:50 AM

Either the comments to this thread have been especially good, or I had a stroke while asleep last night.

mikeyboss on November 13, 2007 at 11:59 AM

Bug.

Since there aren’t any such thing as ghosts, I’m not sure exactly what else it could be.

Asher on November 13, 2007 at 12:00 PM

Looks like a fish. Moves like a fish. Steers like a cow.

It’s Ron Paul.

Casper, no. Gasper, yes.

Dr. Charles G. Waugh on November 13, 2007 at 12:40 PM

Nemo!

Kini on November 13, 2007 at 12:41 PM

Ron Paul

Dr. Ron Paul appears blue on the tape because blue is the color of water which is the color of life;

Dr. Ron Paul appears like a bug because he gets under your skin and you can’t ever get rid of him;

Dr. Ron Paul flies like the American eagle, sacred totem of liberty and freedom;

Dr. Ron Paul is fuzzy and shifty like his ties to Nazi groups and anti-semitism;

Dr. Ron Paul resembles a ghost so as to demonstrate his chances of winning the Republican nomination;

Dr. Ron Paul — doesn’t have a ghost of a chance!

Kensington on November 13, 2007 at 12:43 PM

I have never seen a security camera at a gas station move and follow an object. Has anyone?
I’d say this is the “hoax of the Day”.

OBX Pete on November 13, 2007 at 12:45 PM

It’s obviously a LeAnn Rimes fan.

GoodBoy on November 13, 2007 at 1:09 PM

It doesn’t appear to be a lens smudge/bug/etc. because when it exits the frame, it passes behind a portion of the canopy.

Creepy.

natesnake on November 13, 2007 at 1:28 PM

Are you sure you aren’t mistaking the edge of the security monitor with a canopy? I don’t see a canopy.

Kensington on November 13, 2007 at 1:39 PM

It moves around like an out of focus little fly (or some kind of bug) on the camera lense or on the camera cover.

Lawrence on November 13, 2007 at 2:07 PM

…. it passes behind a portion of the canopy.

Creepy.

natesnake on November 13, 2007 at 1:28 PM

It doesn’t pass behind a portion of the canopy, that’s the edge of the monitor your seeing… for heaven sake. Put your glasses on nate !

But I admit… it could be Kucinich.

Maxx on November 13, 2007 at 2:12 PM

FAKE! Why is the camera following the object? If it’s a surveillance camera shouldn’t it be stationary? Or shouldn’t it follow other objects?

clghitis on November 13, 2007 at 2:49 PM

This must have been a very slow day for fluff news articles.

Next they will be reporting the face of Jesus or Mary in an oil spot on a gas stations driveway.

Helloyawl on November 13, 2007 at 3:47 PM

Jeez. Slow news day?

The “cloud” never foreshortens or alters its shape as it moves around. Neither is it ever occluded by the gas pumps, cars or other objects in view. It is clearly moving in 2 dimensions in the same plane as the lens.

This isn’t even a good optical illusion. Whoever wrote that it was “seen floating and darting around customers” clearly didn’t watch their own damn video. Insulting.

JackOfClubs on November 13, 2007 at 4:22 PM

It’s a bug. It’s too close to the CCD and the lens and severely out of focus, probably sidelit.

It might even be an interesting bug, who knows, could be a rare translucent or transparent bug.

Merovign on November 13, 2007 at 5:32 PM

This isn’t even a good optical illusion delusion.
JackOfClubs on November 13, 2007 at 4:22 PM

Fixed it.

If it was floating about looking for cheap gas or something, why didn’t the guy walking behind the car notice it?

It’s Criss Angel’s impersonation of Picasso.
