If someone has already suggested someting like this- please excuse me.
How about if people who attend MAVS games could be given an idea to stand and turn their backs during breaks? As a way of protesting Mark Cuban?
Ex-tex on November 14, 2007 at 4:38PM

Bill O'Reilly suggested something similar (but with signs and facing forward, lol) as an alternative to a boycott. IMHO this would also offer an explanation for the protest and possibly get more attention in general. O'reilly suggested people bring a sign to the game that simply says "Support Our Troops" period, nothing else.

In the case of the theaters showing this propaganda, he recommended protesting by standing outside these establishments holding the same type sign in a silent and respectful demonstration. (Getting into the Maverick's games with a sign might pose a problem unless it was done stealthily.) Maybe taking the money that your family would've spent on the tickets to either the movie or a game and sending it to a worthy charity for soldiers.

If you're interested in protesting, here is a list of the theaters & dates showing this pos movie:

Clearly forgotten by the Bollywood wannabees is that soldiers and their families are both Dem and Repub. If Cuban wants to do something with his pocket change he can make a difference by contributing to charities to help wounded soldiers and their families, Fisher House would welcome a new building. Or, how about setting up an education fund to help those needing reeducation for a new career after losing limbs? Cuban is no more a Texan than Hillary is a New Yorker...with any luck he'll be swooned over by the social rejects in SoCal and move there.

Mark, don't let that Lone Star stick you in the butt on your way out of town.

Here are some other leftwing movies that flopped: Munich by Steven Spielberg. This was his moral equivalence movie with the theme of yes terrorism is bad but we must understand the root causes, Syriana where the US government and the oil companies conspire to take over Arab lands, The remake of The Manuchurian Candidate where the bad guys are the US government and the pharmaceutical companies (a far cry from the days when North Korea could be a bad guy), The Peacemaker (crazy Americans and eastern Europeans threaten the world but George Clooney saves us). One thing they all have in common: The United States military is led by crazy men who would turn the world into an inferno if George Clooney etc. were not around to save us)

I read somewhere (Variety?) that box office sales were down 76%. Even DVD rentals are way down because at least half of America refuses to support these celebrities. Many of them have shown up in *gasp* series tv just to work. Pretty soon the Tom Cruises, Sean Penns, Robert Redfords, etc. are going to be moving to our neighborhoods out of financial necessity. Then the real fun will begin...

Bashman brilliantly covers all the bases in this video. Just when I thought "enough said", I read Professor Blather's post. These guys are truly eloquent American patriots whose voices need to be heard over those in Hollowood and Washington, District of Criminals. Thank you both.

...But now? Now all the movies are anti-American. All the celebrities are leftists. So how exactly does one more movie with exactly the same message amount to anything brave or compelling or even interesting?

These days, if you want to be a revolutionary, go make a pro-American film. If you want to brave the anger of “the man,” if you really want to speak “truth to power,” go make a film suggesting the U.S. is a good place. The “man” these days runs the media, much of the government, many of the corporations.

You aren’t ballsy if you make an anti-American film. You’re a conformist wimp. You’re the ultimate square. You’re exactly the dude you were making fun of back in the ’60s. You aren’t the people, you’re the power. Damn the man? Damn you, dude. You’re the problem...

Cuban's rumored to be trying to buy the Cubs. They deserve each other. Wrigley would still be full with drunken fratboys, sluts in tube tops (that's okay I guess) and Yuppies.

From what I've read in the trade press, the boycott already has way more viewers than the movie.

Question: How do you boycott something NOBODY wants to see?

The story of Stephen Decatur and the Barbary Wars would make a great movie.

Topical:
It was America's first "War on Terror". Piracy was the the scourge of the 19th century. Nations like the United States were particularly victimized.

Star Power:
Stephen Decatur was by all accounts a young, good looking guy with balls the size of church bells. Max Boot's The Savage Wars of Peace is full of descriptions of Decatur's swashbuckling heroics.

Multicultural Appeal:
The American Navy at it's inception was 20% African American. The North African expeditions were full of Arabs, Greeks, pirates and all sorts of colorful chaps. This wouldn't look like a Jane Austen movie.

Prospects for Commercial Success:
Hey, Master and Commander was a success.

Now all I need is about $70 million, a script, a director and for Shia Lebouf to sign-on to the project.

Once again Americans don't thinks outside their borders. Who gives a flying flip what Americans think of this movie or whether we go watch it or not? I guarantee you when this hits movie theaters or DVD's in Middle East the seething will make the fake Newsweek story about a Koran flushing look like 2 kiddiegartners arguing over a piece of candy.
That is where the damage will be done. Americans be damned.
People need to pull their heads out of their fourth point of contact and quit worrying about reviews in the NY Times or on TMZ and realize what message this reinforces in the ME. I said reinforces since on any given Friday just this sort of hate and propaganda is being preached in thousands of mosques around the globe and now they have video to back it up.

Cuban is a billionaire who wants so bad to be part of the Hollywood crowd. A geek who wants to be accepted, first as an athlete, and now a film producer.
What a pathetic little man, he wants so bad to with the "in crowd".
Well, he will find out what it is like to be scorned, and that will be his rite of passage into Hollywood. Clooney will embrace him, and others. And Cuban will think he is with the "in crowd", but they will be laughing at him behind his back. Invite him to the parties where his money will be needed, but never the personal invite.
Mark, you can't buy your way into being an athlete, dancer, or Hollywood insider.
You should have tried politics, about the only place money can buy you credibility.

It's only a boycott if you need it (like Rosa Parks needed public transportation) or like it.

God forbid, let’s not act as their publicity team.

Jaibones on November 14, 2007 at 9:17 AM

Agreed. Let's not make the liberal mistake.

Massive "boycotts" are usually counter-productive. A very big yawn and an eyeroll is much more effective.

At this point, I think the only way De Palma could manage to fill theaters is if right wing protesters riled up enough moonbats to go so it.

Ignore it. It'll sink on its own.

Brian DePalma made the exact same movie about the VietNam war. He called it "Casualties of War" and it was about a group of US soldiers in the VietNam war who committed a horrible rape and only soldier, played by Michael J. Fox in full Alex P. Keaton mode, has a conscious. Sean Penn played an evil soldier from Brooklyn, who spoke in a sterotypical Brooklyn accent replete with "dese guys" and "dem guys" and I think he even said "toitytoid street". The movie was so bad that it was actually funny. I watched it with a VietNam vet (not John Kerry!) who kept pointing out the numerous inaccurate aspects of the movie. "Casualties of War" sank like a stone at the box office and I suspect that his new movie will do the same. O'Reilly should do something better with his time then beating a dead horse. Recall that Mr. Cuban also hosted a copy of "The Apprentice" that lasted all of about 3 weeks. No need to give him any publicity.

Meh. DePalma's a douche and a nothing as a director, the film's just a political propaganda piece; Cuban is a self-important billionaire short guy with bad hair who can't dance.

Let's not waste too much angst on these two bozos, and God forbid, let's not act as their publicity team.

Yeah, I watched it again too the other day.
My favorite line is when the MSgt hands the photographer a rifle and the photographer says "I'm a non combatant." The MSgt replies "Ain't no such thing today, Sonny."
That line gets me every time...

Amen Bro! Produce another movie like We Were Soldiers…

Babs on November 14, 2007 at 8:01 AM

That is such a good movie! I actually just caught part of it on television just the other day, planned to watch just a few minutes, and even though I've seen it 3 or 4 times I couldn't get up and walk away.

Make sure you get the book. It's simply outstanding, written by the real Hal Moore and Joe Galloway (Joe?). He's the journalist in the movie, played by (I think?) Barry Pepper.

I was so fascinated with the Ia Drang battle when that came out. It's just an amazing story. If you want to be a complete dork, get the PC game "Battlefield Vietnam." You can fight the battle, and they even got the terrain pretty close to accurate.

And if you read the book, by the way, there's a whole chapter on my personal favorite hero, Rick Rescorla. If you don't know the name, read and learn:

These days, if you want to be a revolutionary, go make a pro-American film.

Amen Bro! Produce another movie like We Were Soldiers...
I have been waiting for word about a movie I thought was going to be produced about the Deuce Two in Mosul. I thought Bruce Willis was going to star in it. Does anyone know anything about that?

As far as Redacted is concerned, this is the movie with Reese Witherspoon screaming and carrying on "Where is my husband?" I thought it already opened.

Yeah! I'm boycott'n baby! Uh...yeah, so I haven't been to a movie theatre in 10 years. Oh...and yeah...I haven't watched a new release dvd in about 5 years.

but I'm boycott'n baby! Ain't gonna watch it! H3LL NO! I WON'T GO!

There hasn't been a movie worth my valuable time since...uh...well...maybe the Passion. I'd much rather spend my "free time" at the range or with family. Screw'm all but especially this waste of carbon, DePalma and his ilk.

After suffering through De Palma's dud "The Blacc Dahlia" last year - I think there is no need to organize a boycott of anything he does as people will naturally stay away from his stinking films.
