Video: Tancredo’s explosive scare ad

A “Daisy” for our age, with a twist: this time Goldwater’s running it himself to promote his security credentials. The GOP tried a Hail Mary in this vein two weeks before the election last year and got nothing for it. Tanc won’t do any better, although it’ll probably earn him an extra cable news segment or two tomorrow.

What makes this ad uniquely Tancredo-esque? Not the subject. You can easily imagine Mitt going this route next October if/when he’s seven or eight points behind Hillary and needs a spark, especially given the Democrats’ squeamishness on an issue that’s trending the GOP’s way. No, what brands this as uniquely, ineffably Sir Tancelot’s is … the catchphrase. No other candidate, with the possible exception of Rudy, would have the stones to float something so hair-raisingly alarming. Tanc does it without breaking a sweat. Click the image to watch.

Update: I’m having trouble loading Tancredo’s site at the moment. If you are too, watch the ad on YouTube. It’s a bad sync but that doesn’t detract much.

explosion even

MirCat on November 12, 2007 at 4:43 PM

See this is the wrong tack to take with this issue. It will upset Hispanics and is a bit too alarmist

Why do most americans oppose illegal Aliens coming to the US ? Its only partly because of terrorism its mostly because of job loss.

Even Hispanics are opposed to having more immigrants come here because that means more competition for them.

The republicans in the last election played this issue as a national defense issue. Its an economic issue. Its splits the dems because Unions and most workers are afraid of losing their jobs. Blacks worry about the competition for jobs. Most liberals worry about health care and welfare being streched to the limit.

The WOT and the battle over our borders are linked but they are two seperate issues. This is an excellent wedge issue for the republicans IF they play it right

William Amos on November 12, 2007 at 4:48 PM

pretty good ad, should be on YouTube

bnelson44 on November 12, 2007 at 4:49 PM

Exactly. There is a very real risk of terrorist infiltration across the border but framing that as the main risk just makes it easier for the left to dismiss the whole issue out of hand as hysterical and alarmist. Tancredo’s a liability as much as he is an asset.

Allahpundit on November 12, 2007 at 4:49 PM

There is a significant terror threat from open borers…but this is too much.

but framing that as the main risk just makes it easier for the left to dismiss the whole issue out of hand as hysterical and alarmist.

Tancredo’s a liability as much as he is an asset.

Allahpundit on November 12, 2007 at 4:49 PM

Indeed.

amerpundit on November 12, 2007 at 4:53 PM

It needs more explosion.

Complete7 on November 12, 2007 at 4:54 PM

hooray for ridiculous politics……

seriously tho, i like tanc, ad is stupifying tho

pmoshields on November 12, 2007 at 5:01 PM

I enjoyed how anonymous and easy it was for said terrorist to leave their backpack in the mall. Granted, it was a little over the top, but the ad will resonate with SOMEone, and those people will talk about it. Now… if only there were an economic version of this ad to balance out the “threat” to us, the American people and our wallets, no matter their heritage or ethnicity.

Califemme on November 12, 2007 at 5:10 PM

So does anyone know if Tancredo is a descendant of the House of Tancred of Hauteville? That would make the analogy of him as a crusading knight against the Saracen invasion more historic.

tommylotto on November 12, 2007 at 5:11 PM

The twenty million illegal aliens are real, the frothing with hate terrorists are real and the jobs, culture and violence threats are real.

Tancredo’s a liability as much as he is an asset.

50-50 trade off? Priceless.

Speakup on November 12, 2007 at 5:11 PM

It needs a 24-style split screen with a count-down LCD timer thingy.

And a hot chick who inexplicably hooks up with the one guy who understands the threat. And automobiles that are really robots from outer space.

The Monster on November 12, 2007 at 5:13 PM

How racist! No human is illegal and islam is a religion of peace… (almost forgot: Bush lied, kids died) /KosKidz mode off

In other news:
- The Sky is blue
- Pigs still can’t fly
- Al Gore is still full of S&!t.

BadBrad on November 12, 2007 at 5:22 PM

Is it just me or should the Tancredo people change the order of things in the last bit. Right now it is:

“Those who come to kill…”
(Sound: Explosion/gunshot)
(graphic)Tancredo. Before it’s too late.

Do we need to kill Tancredo before it’s too late, or are the terrorists coming to kill Tancredo? I can see Edwards construing the threat of terrorism so that it is all about him and his fabulous hair.

The Monster on November 12, 2007 at 5:13 PM

Then at the end its all the fault of a secret cabal inside the government — run by an evil bald vice president.

tommylotto on November 12, 2007 at 5:23 PM

If I was to get behind and support a fringe candidate that has no shot of winning, Tancredo would be it.

jp on November 12, 2007 at 5:28 PM

Wanna know how far the government will go to shut up the NAU protesters?

Pretty far.

Don’t believe it?

Gregor on November 12, 2007 at 5:30 PM

That seems more like an trailer for one of those old Golan and Globus Chuck Norris/Charles Bronson movies from the 1980;s.

Allahpundit on November 12, 2007 at 4:49 PM

Of course. Instead, we should wait until it actually happens before bringing it up in the debate.

Oh wait. It already has. My bad.

But still, much better to pretend the threat isn’t there so we won’t have to worry about the KosKids whining all day long.

I forgot what’s important.

Gregor on November 12, 2007 at 5:37 PM

Aaaaaannnd….

Boom goes the dynoMITE!!!!!!!

NeoConSnakePlissken on November 12, 2007 at 5:42 PM

Ok, some think that border security is just about Mexicans, at least Bush, Clinton, Soros and the rest of the open borders types do.

It isn’t and at least one of our candidates knows it.

Buzzy on November 12, 2007 at 5:42 PM

Terrorists entering the US through Mexico is a known and documented FACT. It is not incidental, nor is it infrequent.

As a card carrying RINO, I just want to say that loved the ad. Tancreado talks about the real world, but people no more want to listen to him than they did to Churchill in 1937. Fear of this truth motivates the derision directed towards Tancredo.

thuja on November 12, 2007 at 6:11 PM

Tancredo’s a liability as much as he is an asset.

I feel this is a foolish statement. The candidates are making pleas and taking up causes for the hearts and minds of our party. They are bargaining for our support and everyone knows that when you start bargaining, you start with the extreme low price and bargain and haggle your way up to a reasonable price/compromise. Some on our side are starting the negotiation of this platform issue at amnesty and working it from there. Look at Tanc not as a fringe nut but as a master negotiator who will call a spade a spade, and hopefully will bring the other 9 candidates AT LEAST to the middle on this issue that affects all of us. You get a much better deal deal when you argue for the wholesale price than you do accepting the sticker price and going along like a mindless sheep.

Sleeeeeeeeeeep.

“They will have no choice, but to die or embrace Islam.”

It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.

Allahpundit on November 12, 2007 at 4:49 PM

You mean like if someone would have tried to ring the alarm bells about terrorists threats by showing airplanes crashing into the World Trade Center prior to 9/11? I’m pretty sure that would have got dismissed as hysterical alarmism too.

Did you have a good vacation?

Maxx on November 12, 2007 at 6:54 PM

Where on earth do they find such gravel-voiced narrators?

The ad is a bit alarmist, which I believe is a liability. I believe our open borders are a problem, but this ad forces the question: if it’s as big a problem as Tancredo claims, why haven’t we suffered more attacks?

Slublog on November 12, 2007 at 7:21 PM

Geez I am not saying worrying about a terrorist using the borders to sneak across is wrong. Its an important consideration

Im saying that its the wrong focus to take on an IMMIGRATION debate. That debate is about people who come here almost exclusively for economic reasons.

If you split the ad in to two parts its much more effective. One part is “We need increased border security to prevent terrorists from sneaking across”. The second part is “We need to fix immigration because its a time bomb to our economic well being and takes jobs and benefits away from Americans who are already here”

See how much more effective keeping the two split are than just going head over heals trying to equate terrorism and Immigration as the same thing ?

William Amos on November 12, 2007 at 7:45 PM

I think the most resonate issue with the majority is the constant bombardment of languages other than english, especially by employees and signs in places of retail business. Also the unattended bag is particularly strong, since in the casino I work, that’s something we take seriously, including calling for security and dogs if someone leaves their luggage or other such item alone.

vegasbookie on November 12, 2007 at 7:48 PM

This ad scenario is almost right out of Clancy’s ‘The Teeth of the Tiger.’

The only ones who need to see this ad are the chumps who invite C.A.I.R and its fellow travelers to the White House, ask them to consult for the FBI, and manage prison muslim chaplains. Mike, Julie, are you paying attention?

fred5678 on November 12, 2007 at 7:53 PM

“Spineless politicians who refuse to defend our boarders against those who come to kill.”

I’d say the ad was right the smack on. A secure border keeps out terrorists, gang members and other criminals - and that’s stage one to a comprehensive fix.

T J Green on November 12, 2007 at 8:07 PM

I could not have said it better.

TheSitRep on November 12, 2007 at 8:21 PM

Just a matter of time.

That ad is 100% correct.

Coming to a shopping mall near you soon.
