Video: Laura Ingraham clashes with Whoopi, Behar on “The View”; Update: Modeling video reluctantly added

Barbara gets a rhetorical backhand too for the media’s Iraq defeatism. I didn’t want to press my luck with fair use so I stuck to the bare essentials, but you can’t fully appreciate this clip without having seen the ton o’ crap that was the first segment. Hasselbeck called in to reveal her newborn son’s name (guess) and then the panelists — Laura excepted, thank god — took turns showing off budget clothing their stylist had picked out for them to model. Is it possible to hear a human being cringe? Listen closely and focus on Ingraham. Maybe. Just maybe.
Alas, the promised revenge for Behar’s maligning of MM on Bill Maher’s show is left untaken but there’s enough hostility between Laura and Whoopi to compensate. Dig in.
Update: Hold the phone — Bryan e-mails to point out that Laura did model her outfit in the first segment.
I fear I have no choice but to cut it. Stand by for heart-achy video.

Can picture little Joy sitting thinking “Little damn Nazi Buffalo Bob pulling the strings behind the scenes ! Its always the white man pulling the strings manipulating the sheeple Puppets !”
(Well probably the sheeple comment isnt true until lambchop arrives on the scene)

Laura: You da woman!
d1carter on November 12, 2007 at 4:21 PM
True but they were considered the Wacko Fringe back then, most of us in other parts of the country considered them the Wacko Fringe, at least my parents and grandparents did. And you forgot the Northern Rebulicans who were also members, let’s be articulate and fair minded in covering the Klan.
Whoopi grew up here in NYC, in Chelsea. She went to St Columba’s on W 25th Street and grew up in the project down the block, which during the 60s was 50% white as well. I’m sure her parents thought the South was littered with wacko jew and black haters like mine did, and I am sure like me, she was never subjected to any of that.
When you grow up in NYC it’s hard to imagine that brand of madness that goes on in other places and I am sure she was probably really unaware of any of it.
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 4:27 PM
and I am sure like me, she was never subjected to any of that.
She was saying the country was freer when she was a kid. Just because she wasn’t subjected to it then doesn’t mean it wasn’t happening, or that she hasn’t learned about it since.
MayBee on November 12, 2007 at 4:37 PM
Plus I bet her parents didn’t even really vote and were apolitical. This political thing is all new, people are jumping on the punditry train to make a buck and get viewers. I mean Whoopi wasn’t political in the 80s or the 90s, either was Joy Behar or the show when it first came on.
This is for ratings, Laura’s appearance was for ratings as will Bill O’Reilly’s appearance tomorrow. They need to extend the life of a show that deserved a kink in it’s air hose 3 years ago.
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 4:44 PM
Hmmmm…
Notice that Whoopie was “trying to be good” when speaking to Laura. Would Whoopie have to try with Hillary?
When Laura asked Barbara Walters is she wants us to win Iraq, I could not hear it all clearly, but I think that the only reply from Barbara was “Oh, common!”
And Barbara said at the end that “we all want things to improve in Iraq.” Notice that Barbara did not say anything about winning.
Nuff said.
And finally… Happy Veterans’ Day to all of our vets and we remember those who made the supreme sacrifice..
:SALUTE:
The False Dervish on November 12, 2007 at 4:52 PM
Their business is very similar to Laura’s. They need to maintain ratings, sell advertising, and market books. Whatever the merits of the show, I’m sure Laura’s publisher was glad to get her book in front of The View’s audience.
If there wasn’t a writer’s strike I wonder if she would have been on Stewart or Colbert.
dedalus on November 12, 2007 at 4:53 PM
She was freer because she lived in NYC. Not to sound high hatted, but again we are really unaware of all that smalltown insanity that goes on in other places; I am sure she had no concept of Jim Crow, white sheets, burning crosses, any of it. And she went to Catholic School, so she was probably even more in the dark about any of it.
And she probably didn’t really think too much about any of it until lately.
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 4:53 PM
The basic problem is all the Democrats who were elected in the south, the Governors, the US Senators, the US Representatives, the Mayors, the Sate and local elected people — were not considered the whacko fringe. All kept in office by the KKK, yes they knocked on our door and told us how to vote or else — Democrat. As a kid, you never forget those people in sheets at the door telling you what to do if you wanted to remain healthy — Dad just said, we have to go along or they will be back.
And those northern Republicans, who knew about them.
The southern Democrats were too busy installing Confederate flags on all the south’s State house. I particularly remember Sen Fulbright, President Clinton’s segregationist mentor. Not fringe, but mainstream segregationist Democrats one and all. As a teen in the 50s, I lived in Mississippi, one of the worst of the worst.
I am sure Whoopi knew, she must have just forgot who was in charge of the Democrat party since the Civil War. I am sure she also forgot it was the Republicans who voted for the 1964 Civil Rights act and increased the freedoms she says she didn’t have. Convenient memory loss I think is the name for Whoopi’s behaviour.
tarpon on November 12, 2007 at 4:56 PM
Maybe she was thinking that there isn’t going to be the equivalent of VJ or VE day in Iraq. For decades we’ll continue to hope things get better. The questions will be how many troops and how many billions we commit each year.
dedalus on November 12, 2007 at 4:58 PM
Laura Ingram – the Woman of Steel. By herself she makes these women look like total commie bafoons.
warriorlawyer on November 12, 2007 at 5:01 PM
Maybe the Democrats that she thinks of are John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson.
dedalus on November 12, 2007 at 5:06 PM
Exactly, I bet John Stewart would have her on, why not? Didn’t he have Lynn Cheney on to market her book?
But with the whole The View thing, Walters doesn’t want to loose this show, she refuses to pasture it and call it a day. So the politics angle is hot right now. Look how everyone here is stirred up about it, that’s what she and her producer need. And the political food fight has worked for them, they need to adhere to that model for new breath.
If I were her producer I would have never signed on Sherry whats-her-name, I would have signed on a prominent female Conservative pundit like Laura or Michelle. Michelle would be good because she also brings futher diversity to the table being an Asian American. And they did at one time have Lisa Ling.
I would have –
Whoopi
Joy
Michelle
Elisabeth
Barbara – but when she is not there I would have a definitive replacement for her with both prominent Right and Left voices. For instance I would have but not limited to – Peggy Noonan, Phyliss Schafly, Linda Chavez or Janet Parshall for some examples on The Right for Walters standins and on The Left could be and not limited to Susan Saradon, Greta Van Sustern, Susie Orman, Arainna Huffington etc.
If you are going to keep the show going – do it right.
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 5:11 PM
Well then April, why the heck did she talk about the Black Panthers needing to get power?
BTW, if she is only talking about herself being freer, I am quite sure she is just as spied on by the government now as she was then.
MayBee on November 12, 2007 at 5:12 PM
You’re right, she doesn’t know beyond them really.
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 5:13 PM
She only mentioned the Panthers in reference to the title of Laura’s book and I bet that was scripted. I don’t think the government spied on her as a child, do you?
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 5:16 PM
April- She says the country is not as free as it was when she was a child, that it is not as free as it used to be. It is a ridiculous statement, which she makes clear by her own earlier comments.
MayBee on November 12, 2007 at 5:19 PM
Mary Matalin would be another good replacement on Barbara’s day off and Elizabeth Edwards could be another one.
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 5:19 PM
Maybe for you.
Speakup on November 12, 2007 at 5:21 PM
Monica Crowley and Rachel Maddow could also be interesting.
dedalus on November 12, 2007 at 5:33 PM
They’re giving away Heckler and Koch gift cards?
Blacklake on November 12, 2007 at 5:48 PM
Yes, and Debbie Schlussel and Kirsten Powers would be good. Star Parker and Jane Fonda would work also.
Barbara probably wouldn’t go for the replacements when she’s out for fear the ratings would be much higher, LOL. I would like to see the 2 Conservative regulars – Michelle and Elisabeth and the 2 Liberal regulars – Whoopi and Joy -with the floating replacement, some days it’s a Conservative and some days it’s a Liberal.
That 5th person would be the wild card that would keep it fresh and unpredictable from day to day.
I bet the ratings would soar. On second thought maybe Barbara should step down and produce from the sidelines and go with that replacement permenmtantly.
Could you imagine how great it could be?
And they could even bring in Rosie and Ann Coulter as the 5th replacement to really spice it up. Or Roseanne Barr and Janine Pirro.
I don’t get the Sheery whts-her-name, I don’t think she’s a good fit, too many comics.
Michelle – get you agent on the phone to Barbara….
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 6:07 PM
Mary Katerine would be fabulous and on the Left – Taylor Marsh.
And it would be great if they went into the Left/Right blogger pool for some of the 5th people, like LaShawn and on the Left someone like I don’t know all the bloggers on the Left, but maybe some of the ones from Arianna’s site.
AprilOrit on November 12, 2007 at 6:12 PM
I hope Laura sold some books, but that was excruciating.
Buy Danish on November 12, 2007 at 6:17 PM
A shining Star among dim-wits.
I think Michelle (if she could stomach it for that long a period of time) would make mince meat out of those uninformed loud-mouths.
Zorro on November 12, 2007 at 6:26 PM
“The View” ladies are so insecure that they instantly create a hostile environment for articulate and knowledgeable conservative speakers like Laura Ingraham. Goldberg is a verbose and rude bully and her cohort Joyce Whatever is equally rude. Neither appear to be particularly well informed women. Laura made them all look like adolescent fools. She did a great job and I applaud her. Bravo!
sinsing on November 12, 2007 at 6:29 PM
So much hatred from wjhoopy and her gang of mopheads. Laura is an American hero to meet such ignorance face to face. The mopheads would rather promote and argue mute points than issues the American people need addressed.

Laura – cancer survivor
Whoopi and Behar – stage 4 colorectal cancer
Kini on November 12, 2007 at 7:02 PM
What was the point? Who was won over? Regular viewers of the view? Someone who thinks joy behar has something to say and tunes in every day could be won over? I’m sorry but it was a pointless gesture.
peacenprosperity on November 12, 2007 at 7:20 PM
I saw Laura Ingraham at her book signing in Salt Lake and if I may be a male chauvinist pig for a moment, I was stunned by how attractive she is in person. You don’t really get the full effect in photographs.
WasatchMan on November 12, 2007 at 7:22 PM
This is the Fairness Doctrine in effect, one Con against three libs is the only way to make it fair.
Whoopie “Oh, woe is me, I’m a victim!” She got fired from Slim Fast for her Bush-bush act, and she’s a viiiiiictim! Rush got fired from his orange juice ads because … because lefties wanted it that way. He didn’t compare Klinton to his, uh, cigar, did he?
Good job Laura.
Joy, you NEED to get ‘tapped’.

The View cried…brain cells died!!!
landlines on November 12, 2007 at 7:29 PM
If you are out working for a living, why would you be watching this? I think shows on at this hour are for mush heads, people who probably have fallen on their heads and can’t get up. Could only watch a few minutes, I could not take the annoying libs.
StuLongIsland on November 12, 2007 at 7:32 PM
No it wasn’t. Getting a conservative on TV to swat down dimwitted liberal cliches is never pointless. We need to do more of it.
wryteacher on November 12, 2007 at 7:37 PM
Putting a conservative on the defensive with the hosts, who the regular viewers admire, speaking to her in a disrespectful and derisive manner is good? Anyone who watches that show on a regular basis is not going to hear the message from someone like Laura. The audience was cheering the ignorant comments from those dirtbags.
peacenprosperity on November 12, 2007 at 7:40 PM
Whoopie was NOT a victim of the slim fast thing. She ran her mouth, and the company did NOT want to be associated with her anymore.

This was absolutely not a waste of effort. How many of the eclair snorting dorks who watch this daily abortion have literally never heard an educated woman speak on public policy issues like national defense?
This could have been an epiphany for thousands of them.
Btw, this thread has been shocking for the dearth of “man, did Laura look hot, or what?” comments. You guys are losing it…
Jaibones on November 12, 2007 at 8:16 PM
Wow. Laura conducted herself VERY well and proved she has more brains than any of them put together – which is why I love her. She took Joy’s shameless plug of Iraq and smacked her across the face with it.
What other opportunity exists when there is so much filth in society that it doesn’t go away by “changing the channel” ? Heck, flip to the wrong page in a magazine and Paris Hilton’s sluttiness is staring you in the face.
Ryan Gandy on November 12, 2007 at 8:24 PM
Talk about useful idiots. Four against one.
No Contest. . . .for Laura
Texyank on November 12, 2007 at 11:28 PM
Laura was good but I’d really love to see MM on there. She would kick all their @sses in two sentences. 8)
PoliticallyIncorrectSandy on November 12, 2007 at 11:42 PM
Actually, the modeling thing would have been a great opportunity for her poke fun at it: do a mock modeling walk and pose, stick her finger down her throat, imitate that empty-headed beauty contestant, etc. Just sayin’, I know I’m not on tv/the best-selling author/the radio host.
JimC on November 13, 2007 at 12:03 AM
One Laura Ingraham trumped them all.
Mojave Mark on November 13, 2007 at 12:10 AM
Absolutely RIGHT ON! Nailed it!
And re: the modeling…Laura looked positively drop-dead-gorgeous. A rose among weeds. Nuff said.
Roger Brown on November 13, 2007 at 12:35 AM
As for the modeling that she didn’t want to do, it might have been a good idea for the regulars to sit and watch, and Laura to do all the modeling.

I never watch the View, but I did yesterday. Laura was a class act (as always), she clearly cleaned their clocks! Now if they would have Michelle on as a guest host, that would be fun.
Shelly on November 13, 2007 at 8:35 AM
Agreed, two washed up comics who are trying to make politics funny is ironic. You can make a joke about the actions of a politician, but there is not anything funny about the concept of saying what’s on your mind and telling it directly to the offending party.
I do not know what has mellowed out Ms. Walters, but to have an employee (Whoopie {cushion sit on it}) tell her to shut up is a sign of great disrespect and anthem to Whoppies’s claim that the phrase “Power to the People” is rightfully owned by her culture, under the guise they were trying to break free from slavery. As an original Hippie of that period living in S.F and familiar with the Panther movement, it is amazing that even in the sixties the African Americans felt enslaved. Slavery had been banned since Lincoln.
Obviously, victimization is how special interest group leaders do not want their follower to be or feel free. Because that would mean they have to take care of themselves and they are afraid to cut the apron strings or umbilical cords.
MSGTAS on November 13, 2007 at 8:44 AM
The Rush Limbaugh affiliate in my hometown used to (mid-’90s) follow up Rush’s show with Local Liberal Guy to counter the “Round Mound of Sound.”
But even he would choke when a regular caller, Cranky Elderly Black Woman, would call in and claim that blacks were still literally enslaved. And by literally, I literally mean literally.
“No, come on, ma’am, you don’t mean that.”
“Yes, I do, Barry. We’re slaves! Slaves, Barry!”
Amen.
saint kansas on November 13, 2007 at 9:38 AM
I think Behar has shown herself over and over again to be an idiot. I was more impressed by Laura Ingraham than I expected. I bought her last book because I thought her use of the title (giving power back to ordinary people) was a terrific idea. The book is so poor that I stopped reading about 1/3 of the way through. And I usually force myself to finish any book I start.
doufree on November 13, 2007 at 11:04 AM
I love that it takes no less than 3 libs to match one strong conservative woman! Go Laura! Even so their IQs don’t collectively add up to 1/3 of Laura’s ~ but I guess they know that since they have to gang up on her.
foxforce91 on November 13, 2007 at 11:13 AM
Geez, the first 1:15 of the top clip?
That was torture.
And they clearly do NOT want to hear Laura.
drjohn on November 13, 2007 at 1:32 PM
Joy Behar is an absolute idiot!!!!!!!!!!!
And Barbara & Whoopi are first-class morons.
Laura is hot!
She looked absolutely gorgeous on The O’Reilly Factor last week.
(I even tuned in hours later to see her on the rerun.)
guitarguy on November 13, 2007 at 2:18 PM
It can’t be said often enough: Laura is gorgeous, and the smartest woman in the room. It was almost sad to see her intelect wasted on such dufi.
JEFF_IN_NC on November 13, 2007 at 6:15 PM
It is to bad Whoopi could not construct her thoughts into a coherent argument instead of just sort of fling ideas out and see what sticks. If she did, I think she actually has the foundation there to skewer Laura’s idea that we should become the society of perpetual outrage. I hear Laura critcise Islam and liberals for this and then she goes and writes a book saying american concervatives should do the same. Go figure.
Resolute on November 13, 2007 at 7:18 PM
Don’t look now, but the enemy has Laura Ingraham surrounded.
My collies says:
It IS sort of reminiscent WWII’s battle of the bulge, isn’t it?
CyberCipher on November 13, 2007 at 11:36 PM
Besides being fat, ugly and not very bright, what other qualities does Behar bring to the view? When Rosie was there, she was almost tolerable.
volsense on November 14, 2007 at 3:08 PM
resolute you completely miss Laura’s point if you think she is saying we should be “the society of perpetual outrage…” She has simply had enough of the self-evident bashing of traditional culture. That’s a bit different from liberals constant complaints about imagined losses of freedom. What was Whopdiedoo even talking about when she said she felt less free now than when she was a child? Her feelings are just that. She’s as free now ore more so in America than anyone anywhere ever. Period. You confuse righteous anger with perpetual outrage? You may be resolute, but you are also absurd.
