Last week I had the unfortunate opportunity to bury my uncle, who served in the Navy during Vietnam. He was battling cancer for a long time, so we had time to prepare for the inevitable. The entire time we were at the cemetary, I kept thinking how awful it would be to go through this without being able to prepare, how many of OUR brothers and sisters have had to go through this over the last 231 years. Its an unbelievable sacrifice, and to all I owe my eternal thanks.

And when he gets to Heaven,
To St. Peter he will tell,
"One more soldier reporting, sir,
"I've served my time in hell."

Well this is my last Veterans Day on active duty so to all of my brothers and sisters in far away places, keep up the good work and uphold the traditions and honor of those who went before you.
Next May after serving my country for 20 years I will join the ranks of those that fought in every war since the birth of our great nation and I hope that our future generations don't forget the sacrifices of our Veterans.
So to all of my fellow sailors and marines, oh yeah and you soldiers and airmen too. HAPPY VETERANS DAY and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Marines.

I rented the Transformers movie. It was awesome for its own sake, but I couldn't help but notice - the US military were the good guys. There was the "Sector 7" guy who was a bully, but he wasn't too much of a heavy. They allow him to express that people's lives are at stake. They show his motivation is actually honorable instead of just being an ass for the sake of being an ass. The Sector 7 group in general weren't even bad guys.

In addition, the Army guys call for and cheer, metaphorically speaking - no time for actual cheering, when the Marines lend an assistance and later the Air Force.

I also like how the Secretary of Defense is also not portrayed as a jerk. He does initially reject the computer tech who's the the "one who knows", but he doesn't outright dismiss her, just wanting proof. When he gets it, he makes her his advisor.

The joke with the President ordering Ding Dongs, sounding like George Bush, I allow as humor for humor's sake.

I wouldn't call The Transformers a "Veteran's Day" like movie, but it was good to see the overall positive view of American Military and Government.

Hey WWI doughboy helmets are a good representation of our Military. Those guys fought in far more horrific conditions than we do today. WWI is kind of like the Korean war, a war nobody really talks about. My modern day Marine Corps was forged in the trees of Belleau Wood. If you didnt see the Commandant of the Marine Corps birthday message video it's pretty humbling.

Thanks for the videos Bryan, I did not get a chance to watch the “rock and roll” tribute earlier. I was surprised that Gene Simmons was so patriotic. Very refreshing to hear him state that he would fight.

May God Bless our Vets and our great country.

I did not even know who Gene Simmons was until I watched his show on A&E, only because I had met Shannon Tweed. Gene was born in Israel and moved to the States as a child. If you have the chance to see his show I am sure he will surprise you. In the episode leading up to the show posted here, he, with his daughter Sophie, visit vets in a Veterans Hospital and it was quite moving.

ArmyAunt, that's a lovely sentiment - and it makes for a good anti-moonbat venom serum as well!

When I was a kid I would often pass through Penn Station in Manhattan. Yeah, I remember both video arcades, but mostly I often just had to go to Penn Station from when I used to and currently live on Long Island or when I lived in Queens or Brooklyn, Penn Station was where I went to get to most anywhere in Manhattan.

After 9-11 National Guard troops have ever since patrolled it along with the police. I hate it they have to be there. They're a constant reminder of real Evil interfering of something silly as liking to go to Penn Station. Obviously I don't blame them. I love them. I'm glad they are there; I just hate why, but that's the whole point of who they are.

LB I know that person who posted that vile post wanted to denigrate that man, but I for one, think he has a beautiful face.
And I doubt I am the only woman who would say that. Any man that stands up for this country has a beautiful soul and THAT is what I see in that picture.

In memory of my nephew, KIA Falluja Iraq, 2003.
