Moonbats fast at Columbia U

posted at 12:13 pm on November 9, 2007 by Bryan

It started out as a protest of the as yet unsolved noose incident. But anyone who has been paying attention to campus politics over the past few years or even weeks would hesitate to form up a rally over what may turn out to be either a self-inflicted hate incident or the effect of some kind of campus rivalrly. The facts never amount to so much as a speed bump in campus protests. And as these things usually go, what starts out as a protest about one specific issue becomes a polyglot for just about every bit of hard left crankery under the sun. Thus, the hunger strike about a noose becomes a rally to free cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, make the university’s curriculum even more p.c., get out of Iraq, free Tibet, help Darfur, give free health care and puppy dogs to everyone on earth, end poverty, and give the world a Coke. Focus, people, focus.

Michelle has all the details. It’s good for a chuckle, and makes me glad I went to a run of the mill university that while it wasn’t elite, it wasn’t, well, elite.

Like Michelle, I expect some of these intrepid hunger strikers to put on a few pounds.

Columbia is turning into a 30,000 a year Gitmo in-exile.

Hmmm, so this is out Friday stupid thread???

We demand a Core Curriculum that is inclusive not only of the canon of Western European thought, but that seeks to build a deep understanding of the multicultural society that we live in and the power relations that constitute it.

WTF? You mean Columbia of all places doesn’t offer that already?

The moment any of you dorks even has a Western European thought, call me and we’ll talk.

I’ll save my 25 cents a day pity.

Everyday I make my 3 y/o repeat “I will not go to Columbia or any other Ivy League school, I promise!”.
I’m sure Alexander Hamilton is spinning in his grave!

I would love to set up a grill and start grilling cheeseburgers right next to them. Yum Yum Yum.

jdkchem on November 9, 2007 at 12:42 PM

All BEEF none of the veggie garbage unless it’s onions, and a big thick slice of cheddar cheese. MMM MMM MMM.

We demand an administration that is responsive to institutional racism, supports its students, and proactively works to create a climate in which nooses and swastikas are not the order of the day.

According to this, there was “a noose” on Professor Madonna Constantine’s office door. Not to condone the incident, but does ONE noose make nooses the “order of the day”?

Bigfoot on November 9, 2007 at 12:52 PM

I’m all for moonbats staging hunger strikes. It leaves more food available for Americans and we can always hope that they will end up reducing their carbon footprint to zero.

Protest Organizer (Matthew McConaughey): WHAT DO WE WANT!
Protestor (Chris Parnell): TO LEGALIZE PORN!
Protest Organizer: Sir, pornography IS legal.
Protestor: Not the kind I like.

Who’s up for a barbaque at Columbia? “electrolytes and the love of friends”. Gag me with a large spoon. A large spoon from one of their smoothies.

oakpack on November 9, 2007 at 12:57 PM

Fresh baked cookie torture!
Chocolate chip.

Chaise lounge and a glass of milk just soak’n up some rays.

Speakup on November 9, 2007 at 12:58 PM

Let them not eat cake.

And eventually this event shall pass and be forgotten.

Then they will eat cake again.

Good question Bryan, how many of these fasters will gain weight during this little stunt?

Weebork on November 9, 2007 at 1:01 PM

So when the noose becomes a liberal trickster, then what. The one thing is sure. People who politically fast, starve themselves of facts.

Give the world a Red Bull if you want to accomplish all that! I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised considering the plethora of special interest causes that get tied to all the anti-war rallies.

You mean sorta like when it turns out that the stripper at Duke wasn’t raped by the Lacrosse team……? We’ve seen what happens. Being a liberal means never being wrong. All you have to do is apologize if anybody was offended.

highhopes on November 9, 2007 at 1:09 PM

You’d think their enlightened sense of rage at the Bush administration would burn off enough calories to get rid of the freshman 15. Guess not….

Canadian Infidel on November 9, 2007 at 1:15 PM

Just a slight correction: you don’t apologize if anyone (other than another liberal) was offended; you say how sorry you are that people mistook your satire, call to awareness, and/or “botched joke.”

I went to grad school in Harlem, and of all the descriptions that come to mind, “one of the most important neighborhoods” does not even play well after a few drinks.

If someone has the money to bulldoze that area and most of the Bronx, get to it. “Hell Hole” is more like it.

Hening on November 9, 2007 at 1:38 PM

Um this may fall under “manufactured news event” but, here goes…

Hey, anyone living in NYC want to blanket a few of the food take out places around Columbia with orders (and mix it up – pizza, chinese, hot wings, and let’s not forget vegan!) and have the delivery guys converge on the protest tent…then kind of hang about with a video camera to see how long the “dedicated” fasters hold out and hold up….

Anyone? Bueller?

Wind Rider on November 9, 2007 at 1:38 PM

and give the world a Coke

Don’t forget to teach them all to sing, in perfect harmony.

Frozen Tex on November 9, 2007 at 1:42 PM

Has anyone started a pool on how long they’ll last? I’m guessing tonight about the time pizza deliveries are hitting the dorms they’ll say they’ve made their point and its time to eat.

Oh, yeah, like the recent swastika incident at GW.

Fake, but ACCURATE!

So, how long does it take NY’s finest to review some surveylliance tapes?

Don’t these students know that they have already won everything they could ask for at Columbia? The feckless president of Columbia, Lee Bollinger, invited Ahmadinejad to be the distinguished lecturer at Columbia. The Columbia MiddleEast Department is filled with radical proArab faculty members and is headed by Rashid Khalidi who believes the creation of the State of Israel was a great tragedy. Columbia is poised to give tenure to Professor Massad, a radical faculty member. Colubia did its own “study” of whether there was bias in the MidEast department and concluded that everything was peachykeen. Back in 1968, Columbia kicked ROTC off campus. Columbia was one of the universities that fought all the way to the US SC that Columbia can get federal money while refusing to allow the US military access to the campus. What planet are these students living on? There is nothing in the world like spoiled rich kids who think they are the proletariat.

Inasmuch as these snot-nosed, children won’t be taking any time to eat [wink, wink], will they use it, instead, to bathe?

OhEssYouCowboys on November 9, 2007 at 2:12 PM

It must suck to be on a “hunger strike” when the munchies kick in.

Electrolyte body shots! Pardaaaayy!

Electrolytes for the body? I can see the following conversation:

Hey man, want a hit of acid?

No thanks, I don’t do LSD.

LSD? This ain’t LSD, it’s battery acid!

Bigfoot on November 9, 2007 at 3:25 PM

We plan to strike until the demands are met. If change comes slowly (which unfortunately it often has on the watch of this university) we will hold out, until change is made or doctors say we can go no longer.”

….Doc can you give me a note? I’m really really hungry and there has been no movement by the administration to meet out demands! It’s like they don’t really give as rats ass what happens to the five of us! What is wrong with this world? Every since Bush was handed the office of president by the supreme court….hand me that smoothie will you….no body cares about higher learning. It makes you almost sad to be alive.

Isn’t the word “fast” in conjunction with these clowns a contradiction?

Licorice nooses and brownie swastikas…. mmmmmmmmmm!

profitsbeard on November 9, 2007 at 5:54 PM

Is it a real hunger strike or a Cindy Shehan style hungar strike.

Personally, I’m fasting between snacks. It’s tough going, but I survive by having regular snacks.

“Minds so open their brains leaked out”–another Steve Taylor quote, Bryan? S.T. was quite a pundit back in the day.

That’s nothing! When I was an undergrad I fasted for months, consuming nothing that wasn’t fermented, carbonated, salted or contain trans-fats! Based on current dietary recommendations, I should have died several times by now.

taznar on November 9, 2007 at 9:45 PM

Just before I graduated, a bunch of patchouli stinkers decided to “fast against the war” on the plaza by the student union. By the second day a spontaneous counter-protest BBQ was in full swing, and lasted well into the night. The hunger strike didn’t see its third day.

when are they going to start holding their breath till they turn blue .

Mojack420 on November 9, 2007 at 11:10 PM

First, they starve their minds of common sense…, then their bodies of nourishment. What’s next…? Are they going to deprive the rest of us of their glorious presence by vanishing from the face of the planet…? No such luck, eh…?
