OBL may want to reassess the situation that is developing in the area. Bhutto taking back Pakistan and with some hope Aung San Suu Kyi gets a say in Burma then OBL and Iran may be facing the wrath of women scorned.

I wish Musharraf and Bhutto could find a way to team up and consolidate their constituencies into one Turkey-like secular government and military leadership. Turkey wouldn’t be my personal favorite example of a stable government, but it sure beats what Pakistan is demonstrating now. I thought that was why they let her back in and offered her protection. So much for wishful thinking… Shall I continue to hold on to hope…?

That’s what I first thought, but I’m wondering, maybe Ms. Bhutto called FOX News and Gretta was the only one hangin’ around the newsroom who could do the interview at “absolutely gotta get it done this second” notice.

So what’s Bhutto’s take on OJ, Natalie, the Peterson case (both of them), etc? Having this female version of Geraldo jump into serious news after all the tabloid crap makes as much sense as CBS thinking that Katie Couric could jump from fluff television into the anchor’s slot.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-Greta (other than I don’t respect her style of journalism) but what is going on in Pakistan is a very big deal. In all the coverage I’ve seen on all the networks, not one outlet is covering this story as closely as they should. Greta would not be my first choice as a reporter involved with covering it.

I clicked on the link to gretawire but the mp3 hasn’t been posted yet or is down for some reason. I remember reading some time ago the Benazir Bhutto and her government ministers were corrupt when in office years ago. Any honest conservative republicans running over there ? ha ha ha.

From what I hear she is a lot more popular in Pakistan than Musharraf is.

Thank you. She is their Hillary. She also managed to “get along” with the Taliban, just as Mush is. At least Mush has the power as head of the military to keep things in even this reduced state of order. With Bhutto in, and Mush out of the picture, she wouldn’t last 6 months. Another coup, and god knows who ends up coming out on top to fill that power vacuum.

That being said, I don’t know what we should do. If we pressure Mush too much, he is cast as a Bush stoogie (almost the prevailing opinion in Pakistan rightnow) and it
threatens his tenuous hold on power. But if we don’t push him, the wackjobs will slowly gain prominence anyway, until they push him out or take him out. Tough spot, think it will end badly for everyone. Maybe another occupation in our future.

She gets about 27% in that World Opinion poll, with Musharraf getting about 21%. But the poll was taken prior to the crackdown, so Musharraf has probably slipped and Bhutto has probably benefited.

Our influence should not be overestimated. But we need to make clear our choices. The best among the awful ones Musharraf has presented us is to try to broker a truce between the two forces before the blood starts to flow, keep Musharraf to his promise of holding early parliamentary elections — which Bhutto will win — and then guarantee him a dignified and gradual exit that assures his protection while Bhutto and her allies claim legitimate authority and try to reach accommodation with Musharraf’s successor as military chief.
