Watch Mythbusters. It could save your life.
posted at 11:08 am on November 8, 2007 by Bryan
Your heartwarming rescue story of the day comes from Australia.
A 54-year-old man was waiting for a train and fell onto the tracks just as a freight train roared into the scene. A 14-year-old punk rocker kid sees the fall and springs into action.
“I jumped down on to the tracks, lifted him off the ground and put him on my shoulder – he was heavy but there was enough adrenaline rushing through to help me,” said Julian, who is in year 9 at Lisarow High School and plays guitar in punk rock band Checkered Fist.
With the train “just a couple of metres away”, Julian moved the North Gosford resident to the edge of the track and rolled him under the platform.
But danger was not totally averted.
“[As the train roared past] the noise pierced your ears and there was a suction that pulled us in,” Julian said.
“I’d seen that on MythBusters, so I stayed right back and pulled Mark back towards me.”
The train eventually passed safely, and the pair chatted until ambulance officers arrived.
The kid is a local hero, his punk band got a new song out of the experience, and all’s well.
So watch Mythbusters. Your life or the life of a perfect stranger could depend on it. And the redhead’s kinda cute.

Kari Byron, yes! She’s everything you want in a woman: hot and knows how to use power tools.
Jim-Rose on November 8, 2007 at 11:13 AM
At first I was thinking, “Allah thinks Adam’s cute?” But Kari Byron is who you meant! Good tastes!
df4jc on November 8, 2007 at 11:15 AM
Bryan….For the life of me I thought you meant Adam until I read the first comment…..LOL
ChefJeff on November 8, 2007 at 11:16 AM
Dude. Just…dude.
Bryan on November 8, 2007 at 11:17 AM
…kind of cute?
You, sir, are a master of understatement.
fusionaddict on November 8, 2007 at 11:17 AM
I think we need these Mythbuster guys to bust some
mythslies by Hillary and the Dems.abinitioadinfinitum on November 8, 2007 at 11:19 AM
Alright, I’ve added a link in the word “redhead” to dispel any unwarranted confusion.
Bryan on November 8, 2007 at 11:20 AM
How could you possibly like Kari after that odd admission last night that she thinks blood is fascinating? That’s a little creepy – watching her sit and stare at the blood going through that dummy in the tub.
I’ve never found her attractive and think that group of 3 (grant, torey, kari) do the dumbest myths. More Adam/Jamie, less the other 3.
lorien1973 on November 8, 2007 at 11:21 AM
Can someone help me with this picture. I’m not quite sure what’s going on there. Does he just mean that he stayed under the platform with Mark until the train passed instead of getting up and walking away from the train?
Esthier on November 8, 2007 at 11:23 AM
I think dirty jobs is a little better than mythbusters these days anyways. dirty jobs makes a great point that not everyone has the glamorous job and that you can be happy if that’s what you do.
lorien1973 on November 8, 2007 at 11:24 AM
I had to see this Kari Byron for myself, since I didn’t know who ya’ll were talking about.
abinitioadinfinitum on November 8, 2007 at 11:25 AM
Actually didn’t they bust the myth of
train suction?”
That kid needs to pay more attention.
liberrocky on November 8, 2007 at 11:26 AM
I was just about to post that. The train suction myth was busted but the Mythbusters determined that the turbulence from the passing train was still very dangerous.
Queasy on November 8, 2007 at 11:28 AM
Is it just me or does anyone else think Grant has had his teeth fixed recently? It seems I remember from earlier seasons that his canines used to stick out like Vlad the Impaler’s.
rivlax on November 8, 2007 at 11:28 AM
The info on the water heater rocket last night was pretty good too.
Kari’s cute… alas, I just can’t stare at married women too long. For my own mental sanity.
Vanceone on November 8, 2007 at 11:28 AM
As for Discovery shows – Last One Standing. Hands down. I like the other ones…but nothing beats Last One Standing.
nailinmyeye on November 8, 2007 at 11:29 AM
Kari’s my future ex-wife. Stay away!!
Mazztek on November 8, 2007 at 11:35 AM
Cool show, only thing it’s kind of fixed. The Shaman was not going to be wrong, the Chief made sure of that and the elders in the other shows pick the winner, but it’s still interesting to watch.
abinitioadinfinitum on November 8, 2007 at 11:37 AM
Last One Standing is awesome.
Bryan on November 8, 2007 at 11:37 AM
I’m sure a lot of guard dog owners are pounding their heads on the wall after the “distracting the guard dog” episode. Turns out that urine from er…a female dog, in heat, will stop a male dog in his tracks. Of course I already knew that with my boy….his brain takes a right turn instantly.
jjjen on November 8, 2007 at 11:38 AM
As an engineer, there’s hardly a better show. Don’t just sit around speculating what would happen, try it out in a real world test!
frankj on November 8, 2007 at 11:39 AM
Same thing when I was a teen.Hehe
abinitioadinfinitum on November 8, 2007 at 11:41 AM
I have to say that that kid was pretty brave to do that, and good on him. Not many will try to help anymore and will let someone get killed or seriously injured because they don’t want to “get involved” either out of fear of being hurt themselves or don’t want to get sued in case they mess up, such as that one woman who was sued for pulling her friend out of a burning car after a collision.

Kari Byron is hot, but let’s focus on where credit is due.
This kid ROCKS. What a selfless display of heroism. You realize the kind of instant reaction this must have taken?
Give him a medal and the key to the city. And a record contract, dammit. Too many are given away to far lesser people.
MadisonConservative on November 8, 2007 at 11:44 AM
Madison, I couldn’t agree more, he should be honoured. And yes give him a record deal, there are way to many crap groups/singers out there that dont deserve any space in the industry.
ThinkingForMyself on November 8, 2007 at 11:45 AM
Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, and How It’s Made, are the best shows on T.V. And yes, even better than Future Weapons.
Weight of Glory on November 8, 2007 at 11:51 AM
I love that show!
liquidflorian on November 8, 2007 at 11:51 AM
For the first one – maybe. But…have you seen the last two? Kick fighting, where Jason tore up the lot of them, and Mongolian Wrestling, where each of them promptly got their butts whipped. The endurance race sucked for them, when the village pretty much changed the rules in the middle though.
I would seriously go on that show. I would probably get killed, but, it might be worth it.
nailinmyeye on November 8, 2007 at 11:54 AM
is the understatement of your tenure here Bryan. She’s hotter than a firecracker.
Griz on November 8, 2007 at 12:01 PM
Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, How It’s Made, the crab/lobster fishing boats shows, Survivorman, and Everest, we don’t miss an episode. Which reminds me, I need to get the TIVO fixed…
RINO_Hunter on November 8, 2007 at 12:07 PM
Alas, an art degree from San Fran. State…only one conclusion…hard core liberal.
Hope she keeps her political mouth shut so she doesn’t ruin the dreams of all you guys.
Favorite Mythbuster? I really liked them disproving the quicksand, and the bullets through the water.
The kid is a hero, like most hero’s, probably a little stupid. Fortunately most hero’s don’t have time to think of the consequences.
right2bright on November 8, 2007 at 12:07 PM
Geez, does nobody read who’s writing what posts anymore? I didn’t need the link to get the right image.
steveegg on November 8, 2007 at 12:13 PM
Discovery, TLC, History Channel…all that is really good television.
Not enough for me to bother having one in my house, but still the best there is.
Although I do miss Cash Cab…fortunately my favorite local pub has it on for Happy Hour.
Asher on November 8, 2007 at 12:14 PM
Full episodes of Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs (I think), What Not To Wear, and Last One Standing are available at Discovery.com
I have to watch Last One Standing online, as I’m in Canada and discovery is different here. Stupid discovery canada.
nailinmyeye on November 8, 2007 at 12:24 PM
Yes, I agree totally. The two shows, Kick fighting and Mongolian Wrestling were pretty good, It was a shame for that guy that had the broken ribs, I personally know that pain and can’t imagine him fighting as long as he did. He’s one tough dude.
abinitioadinfinitum on November 8, 2007 at 12:28 PM
Kari is a hotty for sure but she’s off the market as of last year.
Benaiah on November 8, 2007 at 12:33 PM
Hey, a little sensitive. We all know you are…well we think you are…it is rumored that you are…people say you are married…but we have never seen a picture of your “wife”…but I am sure you are…pretty sure, anyway…it’s not conclusive…but I kind of think so…however, there is always…naw, you aren’t…not that it would matter…
right2bright on November 8, 2007 at 12:39 PM
Go to her website and look at her “art”. It is typical modern art crap.
deadbackpacker on November 8, 2007 at 12:58 PM
Ever since watching Mythbusters, I only piss on the third rail if the ground is dry.

This is a quote from her website:
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work quarantines the world into a more manageable space. The focus is the process, each piece is a meditation in my desire for a simple understanding of the daily white noise.

San Fran. State…say no more. The last conservative to graduate from there was 1965, just before they closed the campus down for rioting.
The only conservative on campus is a tourist.
right2bright on November 8, 2007 at 1:13 PM
Thats why I like Melissa Theuriau, she speaks French and I don’t. :)
abinitioadinfinitum on November 8, 2007 at 1:14 PM
Love that show! On YouTube, there’s a video of them busting the myth that pretty girls don’t … uh … pass gas. They put a mic in Kar’s panties and hook it up to a huge speaker. Hilarious!
Tony737 on November 8, 2007 at 1:18 PM
The Discovery Network has some of the best shows on TV.
Did we ever find out why Mythbusters got rid of Scottie? Was she a little too freaky-deaky for a “family” show?
If Mike Rowe keeps it up, he’s gonna start given Chuck Norris a run for his money.
Iblis on November 8, 2007 at 1:21 PM
The train did not vacuum anyone off a platform. The shockwave of air that the train is pushing in front of it will tend to throw you away from the train.
And that is what Grant, Kari and Tori found.
drjohn on November 8, 2007 at 1:24 PM
Kinda.
She should go watch his band wearing that.

Mythbusters is truly amazing television… it is not only educational and highly entertaining, but it could also save your life.
It seems that the domain “mikerowefacts.com is available… I might be able to start a new business.
keithrconrad on November 8, 2007 at 2:14 PM
Kari is cute but she’s a full on Frisco lib. That would pretty much rule out anyone on in this post. I’m sticking to my Fox Fantaxy Foxes. mmmmmmmmmm!
ronsfi on November 8, 2007 at 2:24 PM
Not nearly as awesome as HUMAN WEAPON.
fusionaddict on November 8, 2007 at 3:15 PM
Tonight on the History Channel, the absofuckinglutely best show ever… DOGFIGHTS!
My sheltie and I never miss it, and she can’t even fly!
drunyan8315 on November 8, 2007 at 3:43 PM
That is a REAL act of heroism!
TheSitRep on November 8, 2007 at 6:09 PM
I was passing through Rahway, NJ some years back and a man there was telling me that the train that ran on the tracks within view used to travel over 100 mph. However, a couple of criminals who were fleeing police approached too close to the tracks while a train was passing and were sucked under the wheels. He said that from then on, the speed of the trains were reduced to 45 mph. I guess NJ recognized the danger to criminals and was willing to double everyone’s travel time to protect them.
jaime on November 8, 2007 at 8:32 PM
Bryan,
She is more than just “kinda cute”. As others have pointed out, she is damn hot. No, she isn’t the only reason I watch the show. I love seeing how things work, and this show helps feed my inner geek.
Mooseman on November 8, 2007 at 10:27 PM
drunyan8315, I have two shelties – the best :) There are people, and then there are sheltie people.
The kid gives us all hope.
Entelechy on November 8, 2007 at 10:56 PM
“Mythbusters” have always beat out Tim the Toolman Taylor.
Watch as must as I can, while they check out some really goofy myths they do it in a scientific manner to prove or disprove the myth. Kids should watch this program as part of their science/math classes. Primarily because they use real formulas and when creating their own methodologies it is backed up with real science. Secondly, because Mr. Wizard has passed on and these guys fill a giant void.
MSGTAS on November 9, 2007 at 9:39 AM
Count me as one macho, conservative-libertarian, Palin lovin’, goose-hunting, Reagan votin’, red blooded American male who really enjoys MythBusters! I like all those guys. They’re fun-loving good sports.
