Video: Obligatory Duane Chapman grovel clip

I really have nothing to say about this, other than that I really can’t stand when people “apologize” for vulgar language and crude behavior by arguing that they’re “not like that” and that it’s not how they really are and–heavens, no!–they really don’t do or say exactly the kinds of things they’re sitting there apologizing for. The girl in the second clip was pretty hot. A&E should give her a bail bondsman license and let her take over the show.

Let me get this straight. His “spiritual mentor” for the last 7 years is black. He goes to church with mostly minorities. ….but he’s a racist? But, as annoying as all this PC hooey is, if this gets this professing Christian to stop cussing like a sailor, then fine with me. Otherwise it would be nice if he stopped telling people that he’s on my team.

Am I the only one who thinks Chapman looks like he tried out for the WWF in the 80′s, didn’t make the cut and never quite got over it?

Hey Michelle. Good to see you posting at Hot Air again. We kinda miss you over here.
Are you going to open your main blog for registrations any time soon? I was on vacation during the firs period and I missed out.

Dog Chapman puts his life at risk on a regular basis to make society safer for everyone, uses the word “Nigger”, and gets pilloried for it.
Every single scumbag gangster rapper on the face of the planet encourage black people to live violent lives filled with material, sexual, and ethical depravity, use the word “Nigger” 50 times a day, and this is considered “Normal Behavior.”
Yes.
This makes perfect logical sense in Bizzarro world.

“I’m not like that.”
If they held the Nuremberg war crime trials, today – it’d be a great defense.
Von Ribbentrop – “I’m not like that.”
Hermann Goering – “I’m not like that.”
Rudolf Hess – “I’m not like that.”
Et al. – “We’re not like that.”
The Tribunal -
“This Tribunal, having heard the poignant denials of the accused, and taking judicial notice that, whatever their crimes, it was the fault of the United States of America, hereby orders, adjudges and decrees that all charges be dismissed, and, further, that the accused be given a jolly, pat-on-the-back for being so contrite and heartfelt.”

Too much to do about nothing but words. I am so sick of the thought police. Don’t like what he says or thinks well, watch something else, that is why they put dials on TV’s.
If you want to judge someone, what about his kid who sells a private conversation?
Wade on November 8, 2007 at 4:27 PM
I don’t think he is any more racist than you or I.
But stupid for his gutter language? Yes.
And I don’t mind his apology. What drives me creepy is his groveling. Dog the Bounty Hunter groveling? Aieee!!!

Wade on November 8, 2007 at 4:42 PM
If he just threw the word around, that’s one thing. If he was trying to protect what’s he’s built and was afraid that someone would be upset with what he says, that’s also one thing (though he should just stop saying it).
The part that get’s me (and this is the ‘that’s an entirely different thing) is that he called her an F’ing N’.
His comment about “I’m not saying they’re souless” blah blah blah was a defencive move from what his son got on him about. What was his son’s side of the conversation.
This is not about being PC, this is about someone who ,this time, actually is racist.
Those claiming PC PC PC are those who didn’t get up when the boy cried wolf at the time there really was a wolf.

I used to watch H&C every day, but it went overboard with this hour-long interview. Good grief, Dhems are trying to destroy America, jihadis want to blow us up, and all they can do is interview Dog the Bounty Hunter for an HOUR???
What a waste.
jdawg on November 8, 2007 at 4:44 PM
Imus and Duane will continue to make tons of money. They can join the Lacrima Cristi club “we’re great guys but we’s got foul mouths”.
However, none of what they said negates the good they’ve done, as some claim, nor excuse that rotten son of Duane’s. That kid will never get over it. Blood is always thicker than water.

This kind of stuff is just ridiculous. Whatever Dog, or anyone else, says in their own home…to their own family…is their own business.

A clip from the South Park bounty hunter episode would be nice here, brah.
Honestly, I think the real story is what a scumbag this guy’s son is. What a piece of dog poo. He’d make the brownshirts proud. I know the pediatricians are teaching kids these days to narc on their parents, but this guy’s a grown, albeit drug-ridden, wuss and he sells his family out for $15,000???
I don’t buy Dog’s croc tears though.
NTWR on November 8, 2007 at 4:51 PM
The guy is a convicted murderer. Why would anyone hold him up as a moral figurehead?
His language is inexcusable. If you listen to the tone and context, it becomes obvious that the guy is indeed a racist. Not allowing your kid to date someone because of their race is the archetype example of this. What is the problem admitting that?
Many people on the right label Al Sharpton and other demagogues as racist. Al Sharpton has white friends too; is he any less racist?
Regarding Dog’s family, I wish them all the best. I think Dog was as shady as his kid in how he’s handled this. He alluded to his son’s drug use and dropped all kinds of unsubstantiated hints. It sucks to get railroaded by your son, but as a man, I would not besmirch his son’s name to save my own.
Dog is clearly a family man. But his family seems to have hit one of those rough patches; that can happen to any family. No matter what happens, I believe he will be a better man once the storm dies down and he does some soul searching.

I’m a loser
I’m a loser
And I’m not what I appear to be
Of all the battles I have won or have lost
there is one battle I should never have come across
It was a word I’ve used a thousand times, my friend
I should have known it would turn upon the internet in the end
I’m a loser
And I lost my pride that was so dear to me
I’m a loser
And I’m not what I appear to be
Although I talk and I act like I’ve been stomping every one around
Beneath this mask I am now wearing a caught little boy’s frown
My excuses are falling like rain from the sky
Is it for my image and myself that I cry
I’m a loser
And I lost a persona that was so dear to me
I’m a loser
And I’m not what I appear to be
What have I done to deserve such a fate
I realized I had a big foul mouth but it was by then too late
And so it’s true, a big foul mouth comes before a fall
I’m telling you so that you won’t lose all
I’m a loser
And I lost a persona that was dear to me
I’m a loser
And I’m not what I appear to be

Bingo. Well said. Just what this country needs – more terminology which once invoked pride; but is now mired in dumbed-down, meaningless irrelevancy. Kinda like “hero” and “honor student.”
OhEssYouCowboys on November 8, 2007 at 5:13 PM
I can’t stand Hannity. I loathe Dog, his kid and H&C equally.
I should note, I love that Dog complains because, in his words, he isn’t racist, but he uses the word, and he doesn’t want her hearing it and ruining his career.
Yeah, God forbid Dog be bothered to alter his behavior just a little when his kid’s girlfriend is around…what a stupid moron. There are no good guys in this story.
Bad Candy on November 8, 2007 at 5:17 PM
My take on all of this:
He used the word. That was bad. But, I don’t think it meant the same thing to him the way it means to a lot of people. He mentioned having a lot of black friends that he used the word around with no consequences because they used it too. It was something he picked up in jail around other inmates, many of whom were black.
I’m reading “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” right now — I’m reading it for a unit plan I’m preparing for class. The book uses the word over 200 times, many times by the title character. But he does not mean it the same way the adults mean it — it’s just what he learned from them.
People have brought up the “murder conviction.” He didn’t kill anyone — the story is that he was on the scene and knew about it, but didn’t report it, which he still says he was innocent of.
I don’t agree with the swearing he does on the show, either. But, if this will break him of that habit as well, more power to him.
I like the show. He’s a fascinating character.

It boggles my mind why Hannity is wasting so much air-time on this. His special the other night was a straight up trainwreck.
p0s3r on November 8, 2007 at 5:19 PM
Jesse Jackson is a joke at this point. But are you telling me that using the word Hymietown is as bad as Dog’s screed?
Furthermore, are you unwilling to acknowledge real racism until two race-baiting sycophants apologize? This is tortured logic and indicates your having a greater stake in not acknowledging truly racist language.
Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Democrats, et al are like the boy who cried wolf. Many Republicans are like the villagers who refuse to see a wolf when it’s growling in their face. Everybody loses.

My favorite part about all this is Dog being concerned about the National Enquirer picking up on the notion that he uses racial slurs in his everyday language, and somehow twisting it into making it racist. What did he do before that? Used the phrase “F****** N*****”.
Nicely done, Dog. They didn’t even have to twist it.

I had a lot of respect for this guy and supported him when the Feds arrested him and threatened to return him to Mexico to face bounty-hunting charges, but the uncut audio speaks for itself. Everything he’s done for law enforcement the last 20 years was wiped out by a few minutes of a voice mail message to his son.

By the way, doesn’t the pic of this bounty hunter guy look like the cowardly lion?
El Cazador on November 8, 2007 at 8:19 PM
While you have a point, you really miss the big point.
Rappers and blacks don’t say what you wrote. They say “nigga”.
Anyone that puts an “R” on the end will be vilified by the black community.
Hanging with more than 3 ‘brothers’ at one time, a white guy can’t even say it with an “A”.
Dog rolled the ‘r’ a bit and too many blacks heard him.
It’s a black thing, period.
I dont think he’s racist either.
But listen if he mentions the ‘r’. ( I haven’t heard his whole apology deal yet)

But screaming loudly against, and ruining careers does keep racism alive and well and in the forefront of peoples thoughts. Real or imagined, it has value.

No need to grovel, Chapman. Just take the Sen. Robert Byrd plea:
“It’s a term from my boyhood…no intention of casting aspersions…never intended to offend…”
Rico on November 8, 2007 at 9:13 PM
‘Those who live to be offended’ are today having an orgasm as Michael Richards, Don Imus, and now Duane Chapman have publicly groveled before them for uttering words that they have deemed blasphemous. It’s been a trifector for them.
In reading the Free Speech Amendment to the Constitution I don’t recall it saying anything about a person’s right NOT to be offended. I must have missed it.
Yet, ‘those who live to be offended’ come out of the woodwork with self-righteous indignation claiming that they have been wronged and demand contrition.
It does not matter that they themselves use the same words everyday and in everyway, it’s just that ‘honkys’ aren’t ‘permitted’ to do so.
I am waiting for the day when someone who doesn’t have his ‘family jewels’ in a lock box tell ‘those who live to be offended’ to – GET OVER IT!
pocomoco on November 8, 2007 at 9:29 PM
Just because one has the right to say what they please doesn’t mean they have to shun the exercise of civility and common decency. Nor does it mean that those who do say what they please deserve some kind of contorted defense of their actions by others.
And as far as “Dog”.. come on.. how many people that post here really watch his show on a frequent basis? He makes money being a bounty hunter. There are no real rules he has to follow.
Cops are several levels above him in the pecking order of role models. They operate within a strict set of rules and guidelines and put their lives on the line everyday. Unlike Dog, they don’t get to choose which bad guys they will encounter.
Bradky on November 8, 2007 at 9:45 PM
Exactly. I’d respect him a lot more if wasn’t trying to tell the world that he thought he was “dark enough” to use the word.
There are many, many Whites, Samoans, Mexicans, Filipinos, Japanese and Black kids who all call each other nigga. I’ve never had anyone of any race apologize to me for using the term “nigga” in my presence. When some white kid at the skatepark calls some mexican “nigga,” he doesn’t feel the need to apologize because he’s not using the term maliciously.
Dog knew that what he said would and could not be mistaken for endearment.
Unfortunately, rap music and hip-hop culture have made this term deceptive in its ubiquity. We’ve all heard it, and many have been desensitized to its usage. However for many, the terror and degradation which accompanied this word in the past can never be forgotten.
***
Race rage is different than racism.
The Race Card on November 8, 2007 at 10:23 PM
The only time I have ever heard the word “honky” used was by white men. It sounds like the name for a PBS character.
(I don’t know your race and don’t care. Just detailing my inconsequential anecdotal experiences.)
The Race Card on November 8, 2007 at 10:30 PM
Right so being an ignorant racist jerk is as bad as being a Nazi war criminal? I remember a long ago era when racism was considered very bad but not held up as the original sin of Western Civilisation.
You’re willing to trivialise the deaths of all the victims of WWII and the Holocaust just to chastise this snivelling idiot. Anti-racism was once a noble cause but has mutated into a neurosis, one that’s being enforced upon the whole world.
aengus on November 8, 2007 at 10:34 PM
My “contorted defense for their actions” comes in the form of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution the crux of which implies that people actually have a right to say stupid things. And, again, it says nothing about those who have a right NOT to be offended. Over that past 200 hundred plus years of this republic that concept has been pretty much understood.
Recently, however, something called Political Correctness has raised its ugly head and we are now at a point where speech has become so inhibited that, as we have seen, it can ruin lives if one dares to utter ‘un-approved’ words.
We are seeing a bastardization of the 1ST Amendment. The “civility and common decency” you speak of is, today, in the eyes of the beholder, and it is those beholders that are performing the bastardization. “Civility and common decency” are supposed to be a two way street, but there are those who insist on it being a one-way street.
Finally, I find a great hypocrisy with ‘those who live to be offended’ using the very words everyday they condemn others for using, and cop out by saying it’s a ‘cultural thing’. Well, excuse me, but others also have their ‘cultural thing’.
I suggest, therefore, that you leave my ‘cultural thing’ alone, and I’ll leave your ‘cultural thing’ alone.
pocomoco on November 8, 2007 at 10:45 PM
If you wish to be boorish and rude with and emphasis on offending others under the guise of first amendment rights go right ahead. Just don’t whine when people refuse to take you seriously, hire you or invite you to public functions.
Like Dog has shown, that behavior makes one an embarassment.
Bradky on November 8, 2007 at 11:25 PM
yep. What he says to someone on the damn phone in a conversation is between him and the person he’s talking to for one thing. For another thing, whats this crap that there are certain words only certain people can say aloud to specific other people? What are we going to do now, start having off-limits vocabulary words only certain races can say to one another? Look, the man deals with some mixed up scum bucket people sometimes, and what words he spews he deserves to spew as does anyone else. If your offended by what the man said, get over it or take the damn word out of the dictionary and don’t allow ANYONE to say it even if your black. yeah make it a federal friggin crime no matter who says it. This bullshit of words only one race can say is a friggin game. I also think National Enquirer is the one who needs to apologize for invading someones privacy and putting the man through hell. Its a word from our history just like the cotton gin is from our damn history.
I dont like what Lucas does with Germans in his movies but dammit thats his right. Free damn speech people. People died for us to have it. Get real. Using the word as an insult is pitiful and racist if used certain ways, but its a word and people can say it. People do and alays will so knock it the hell off and let Mr Dog Chapman go back to what he does best. They brought the man to his knees for god sakes, let him be. Sharpton and co. go ahad and run up and down the street screaming how bad blacks are abused. sorry, I dont feel sorry for you. personally I dont like to use the word and its as bad a habit as cigarettes, but its a word and if the word needs to be used for whatever reason, maybe describing history or something, well then thats the word that will be used. You dont like it? Tough!

Usually I don’t care about a person’s appearance, but this guy is hideous; it hurts my eyes to look at him, and I was nauseated by the 2 minutes of his sniveling I listened to before changing the channel. Then my husband came charging upstairs and started yelling about how he’s had it with Fox, and he never does that sort of thing.
I keep FNC on all day, but I’ll do whatever it takes to avoid having to look at or hear this creature again. No more Fox News for me if this is what they choose to cover. There’s too much Missing White Girl coverage as it is, but this “Dog” story could be the last straw.

rpower57 on November 9, 2007 at 2:00 AM
I’m always entertained by people who stand proudly for free speech when racist language is used but get extremely pissed off when religiously blasphemous language is used. The same people who believe there should be no consequences or outrage for saying “nigger” (because it’s just a word) get up in arms over Piss-Christ and every derogatory term used by the liberal media to describe Christians.
In my opinion, both are wrong; but it’s interesting to me how intellectually dishonest we can all be sometimes. The fact of the matter is that free speech means that there are no government penalties for what you say. It does not mean that there are no market or societal penalties for what you say.
No one was crying in their beer over the Dixie Chicks losing radio play for speaking out against the President and the Iraq War. No one excused Nixon for anti-semitic remarks on privately recorded tapes because it’s “free speech.” Yet it seems like the greatest accomplishment of Sharpton and Jackson is to cry wolf so much that it’s almost impossible for people to recognize real racism when it occurs or to admit it because they don’t want to give them the satisfaction.

But he’s trying to repair his reputation?
Black Adam on November 9, 2007 at 3:12 AM
Sharpton is way ahead of you about addressing this. Part of the problem is that 70% of rap music is purchased by white youth, who then ape the lyrics and offensive language. Guess they don’t have appropriate parental guidance.
But seriously if those 70% stopped buying the music the market for it literally collapses.
Bradky on November 9, 2007 at 6:54 AM
i’m sick of this issue. the black community needs to stop shutting down people for a mistake unless they do the same to their own, Halle Berry, and people like Imus, or Mel (as an example), or the Dog need to stop pandering to those whom they may have offended.
if “i’m sorry” is not enough, then nothing will ever placate the hate mongers and race baiters.

Free Speech has consequences. Saying stupid crap will generally get you in trouble. When you say stupid crap, you have to take responsibility for it.
Here I am, thinking that these are conservative principles. I had no idea that I had to put up with offensive bigots, because they have carte blanche to say whatever the hell they want with no repercussions.

I am in NO WAY DEFENDING what he said, BUT.. It should be very scary to all of us that someone can lose their job for what they say in their own home!!! And let’s be honest, we all have said things that we are not proud of at one time or another. What if during one of our less than civilized moments when we have uttered something vulgar, someone recorded it and played it for our supervisor? The MAIN POINT OF THIS STORY IS THE SUPPRESSION OF THOUGHT AND FREE SPEECH. Think about this looong and hard before we cast stones only at Dog, A&E should also recieve a few stones. AND, where are all of our “illegal wire-tap” friends?! The liberals are having a field day with the “intel” they have received from this “illegal wire-tap”. This leads me to believe that the left thinks it is more important for the nation to know that Dog is a dipsh*t, than for the nation to know how Islamo-facists are planning to kill us. Yes, my friends, this story is much deeper than someone saying the dreaded “n-word”.
clawjockey on November 9, 2007 at 9:37 AM
Bingo.
If you think some black person is a “nigger”, and if you are a coarse enough individual to use the term, I say you’re at liberty to go for it.
The law shouldn’t fine or jail you for it, and the rest of us don’t have to associate with you in any way.
His TV career may be over (although I suspect he may get picked up by another channel) but I wonder how his business will fare after all this ugliness.

Liberals have seen to it that blacks are now a ‘protected class’ in America.
This, of course has nothing to do with altruism on their part, it’s a simple matter of votes, because if they didn’t need their 90% turn out at the polls, blacks would still be a permanent underclass.
Almost weekly, white transgressions are pounced on by the liberal media while blacks go unchallenged and have free reign to say anything they want.
The media then bring in a gaggle of so-called black leaders in order to ‘analyze’ what the white transgressor said and suggest appropriate penitence.
Say 100 Hail Sharpton/Jacksons and ye shall be forgiven – maybe.

Suppression of Free Speech? Nope. He said what he said, and the government levied no fines. A&E can do what it wants regarding his show.
Krydor on November 9, 2007 at 11:42 AM
Krydor, you are right, no fines were levied and A&E has every right to do what it wants with their show. I guess it’s me that is missing the point. I just don’t see how it’s fair that someone loses their job for speaking their mind in their own home. He said a word, he incited no riot, he did not call for violence. He said a word that can be heard in countless songs, and on TV shows like Dave Chappell (love that show!). I just find it scary that saying a word, in the privacy of your own home, can get you fired. Where does it stop, what will be the next word you can’t say? Also, the government is not the only entity that can suppress thought and speech. Try speaking your mind at a union meeting, for example, and see what happens.

You’re willing to miss the entire point of my post – that today’s society is willing to dismiss most any egregious act, if the egregious misfit kowtows and says that “I’m not like that.”
My post dealt with contemporary society. One that has no moral compass; and, because of that, is willing to accept any behavior, as long as the apology is sufficient.
I deeply appreciate your futile attempt to discern the point of my post.

Right, and they can do what they want to in regards to protecting their image/name.
Just like Dell when they fired the Dell Dude. Zero tolerance on their drug policy = you got busted for pot, you got to go.
Just like any number of things that an employer can fire someone for because it reflects badly on them.

worth repeating:

Some people are too willing to attribute racism where none exists. Others are wholly unwilling to acknowledge even the most blatant acts of racism.
The Race Card on November 9, 2007 at 2:56 PM
No, rappers, hip-hopsters, and even wiggers use the word “nigga”.
I’ve always thought “The Dog” was a mulleted white trash dirtbag that led a team of mulleted white trash dirtbags. I am not surprised by any of this. When you elevate a bunch of mulleted white trash dirtbags to pop culture, umm, “minor celebrity mulleted dirtbags” status these kind of things will happen. If you hid a TV camera in a Camaro in a trailer park you would get the same results.
manfriend on November 9, 2007 at 3:37 PM
The man made a mistake, and in the sake of privacy. Who here hasn’t?
Does anyone have the authority to judge or condemn another for their indiscretions outside the rule of law?
Of course his act was stupid; his persona IS his show; and he’s a product of his environment and past (an 80% black population in prison will probably make you, to survive, act and be like one of them, regardless of which race is dominant..), and let’s stop forgetting that he didn’t commit the murder he was accused of, but for being an alleged “accomplice”. I don’t know all the details, but who among us has NEVER committed ANY crime?
Forgive and let go. It’s just entertainment. The depravity of the P.C. ultra-liberalism and cultural diversity (et al) excuses today only serve to induce this form of race warfare and ratings hustling.
And personally, I think he’s sincere. While I loathed the groveling and despised his “damn” usage during the interview, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He very well may have been crying both for saying it as he felt true remorse for his career just as much as he did for those he “offended”.
Clearly his son and girlfriend are exposing and exploiting this ordeal for their own selfish needs; and now a lawsuit? Please. I don’t condone the use, but this word is overstated and used as a double-standardized bastardization of the 1st Amendment.
I detest it and teach my (white) children that while we have freedom of speech; some words offend and hurt others and, as a result, you must use common sense publicly; exercising proper behavior & manners for others at the very least is understanding to not put yourself in jeopardy while adhering to your own beliefs and morals.
Of course the MSM will run with it for days, but then it’s on to the next “racial injustice”.
Let’s not forget that there are no winners here, but his son (fresh out of prison and a drug-addict as well) is the worst of the bunch; selling out his own father for $15k and a girlfriend he won’t end up with (mark my words) [and probably more interested in getting in her pants] is what really stirs me up.
My Take is: he’s after the high; she’s after the publicity.
nationspatriotcom on November 9, 2007 at 3:57 PM
Yeah and not only that, the guy Dog was accused of murdering was black. The same guy that he was friends with – while the rest of his motorcycle gang buddies couldn’t stand black people. I just don’t see the word “racist” as applicable to him.
He made a bad judgment call, and got caught for it.
If what happened to Imus is any indication, this isn’t the end of Dog’s TV show or his career.
Ryan Gandy on November 9, 2007 at 4:57 PM
I recognize racism quite well, thank you. Yes, I want Hymietown to be recognized as offensive as the “N” word. I equate the word Hymie with the Holocaust…. no less an association than the “N” word with slavery. I see all cultures infected with racism. The word will never be co- opted by one race in my lexicon.
