Democrats yank border security from defense spending bill

They can find millions here and there for all kinds of non-defense related pork, but not for actual border security?

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, said Tuesday that Democrats had stripped from a defense spending bill a $3 billion border-security amendment that the Senate passed overwhelmingly last month.

Graham said Democrats also attached conditions to the Iraq war funding, leading all Republican senators on a conference committee to refuse to sign the panel’s report.

“I’m incredibly disappointed,” Graham said in an interview. “Congress would serve itself well if we funded border security as my amendment proposes, and it would help us move the immigration debate further down the road.”

Maybe he should have told the porksters to shut up.

On a serious note, the Senate passed that amendment 95-1. So who yanked it?

Aides to Democratic leaders of the Senate and the House failed Tuesday evening to return phone calls seeking comment on Graham’s claims, or said they didn’t know anything about the issues. Graham planned to hold a news conference Wednesday with other senators.

The feckless Democrats are too busy hiding under their desks to answer the question.

Anything to protect future voters, from Mexico, for the Democrats. They. Must. Win.

This is just one more example of the transparency the Dems have promised!

I’m sure Harry Reid & friends would have agreed to the amendment if it was earmarked for building bridges and superhighways from Mexico to the U.S.

If you don’t want to hold office this is a great way to achieve unemployment.

Save the tape give it back to them at vote time.

Well, you know, Gramnesty taking the lead on this makes the Democrats look much worse. And if we are really lucky this fight may give Gramnesty a road to Damacus experience. (The person on the road is meant to be Paul and not Pelosi.)

On my blog I have Murtha on video crowing about all themoney he “saved” for the American people on defense via the new defense bill. Then he goes into why his district benefits from a DEFENSE bill that includes sewage, Tourism and Diabetes funding.

I commend Graham for his decision to reverse course, and focus on security.

When Graham says, “move the imigration debate further down the road,” is he really hinting at a future amnesty for illegal aliens?

I fear the answer is yes. And that would not surprise me, since the USA has a policy of rewarding people who break our laws with the gift of USA citizenship. Amnesty has been rewarded to illegal aliens 7 times since 1986.

Que pasa? Que whats your pasa? Better brush up on my spanish, huh. There sure will be a lot more ‘undocumented Americans’ to talk to in the future.

I’m not surprised. I’m pissed, but not surprised.

Draft the illegals.

Kristopher on November 8, 2007 at 12:02 PM

It’s always politics with the Dems. There has never been a Democrat sho gave a moment’s thought about the American people’s well-being.

Griz on November 8, 2007 at 12:10 PM

Sooo… they add 9 billion in Pork to the water bill….

And take away 3 billion for border enforcment on the Defense Bill…

Interesting priorities.

Romeo13 on November 8, 2007 at 12:17 PM

The next time an American citizen is raped or dies at the hands of an illegal alien, call your Dumb senator or rep and thank them.

madmonkphotog on November 8, 2007 at 12:19 PM

Ironic that Graham is whining about democrat tactics. HE’S the one begging us to believe him and them on this issue, and HE actually accused of being bigots. You reap what you sow, Lindsey. So sorry for ya!

It’s time for us to light up the switchboard again!

Single diget congressional approval ratings are in the near future.

Not only Graham, but Kyl was doing the same thing.

Each is trying to make one more push before disappearing into political oblivian.

I’d like to thank all the liberal demo-rats out there that voted for these morons in the last election, which now gives them a majority vote. I hope you can see where your tax dollars are going (or NOT going).
If their approval ratings get any lower, they’ll be in the negative.
