Still can't trust them. France is our oldest enemy from the French and Indian Wars to the War on Terror.

Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine is still virulently anti-American even if Sarkozy is not.

Whenever I go sour on the French I need only recall one of my beloved Frenchmen: The Marquis de Lafayette

Early in the year 1780 Lafayette's hard work with the French government resulted in the success of sending French troops to aid Washington and additional needed supplies. So insistent was Lafayette for aid to the Americans that one day Count de Maurepas said in the royal council: "It is fortunate for the King, that Lafayette does not take it into his head to strip Versailles of its furniture, to send to his dear Americans; as his Majesty would be unable to refuse it." In addition to governmental supplies Lafayette purchased our of his private account a large amount of supplies for the troops he would command on his return to America - Courtesy National Center for the American Revolution/Valley Forge Historical Society

LaFayette gave $200,000 of his fortune towards our war effort. Imagine what that would be in today's dollars. He fought as one of us

It was not just the Rench Royal Court attempting to humiliate the English but great men like Lafayette who made possible our freedom because of idealism

Of the French I can say: when they are good they are very very good and when they are bad they are horrid

It feels good not to be hated. Thanks Sarky. You are welcome to visit my place anytime. Cook you a good pot roast with mashed potatos and gravy, some greens and a homemade apple pie. You can go native down here. Get you a camo hat you'll fit right in

Trust those of us who've spent half our lives in other countries... The world loves us like a child loves its mommy and daddy. Even when they shout 'I HATE YOU!' at the top of their lungs. They trust, respect, and NEED us much more than their pride (the selfish, childish type) will ever allow them to express openly. The few non-Americans, with whom I've been fortunate enough to debate issues, are quick to shut up or change the subject at the mere mention of a world without the USA. I've always feared for my life in foreign countries, but never at the hands of my neighbors. In fact, I'm quite sure that the communities in which I've resided, in many places, are full of people who would hide me like Anne Frank and protect me against their own governments, should they be taken over by the likes of Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, John Kerry, Al Gore, etc...

Who-da thunk 3 years ago that the French Government
today makes more sense than the libs. And Germany to boot.

Good point, Tex. And if we had followed the Dems, what are the chances that we would be where we are today? Zero! It took some fortitude for us to ignore France's sniffing haughty attitude while we waited for reality to hit them in the face. There is something about mulim youths burning cars all over Paris that tends to get one's attention! They are in a much more precarious situation than we are due to demographic changes, and I think they may be waking up to the fact. One last thing: If Repubs let Dems off the hook on how they TOTALLY missed it on the great conflict of our time, then they deserve to lose next year. I hope we run ReidPelosi through with their own stupid rhetoric. I am sick of hearing it, and am now enjoying their silence-- about time they shut up.

I started working for a large French company 3 years ago and have been pleasantly surprised by how "American" they are. Well run, profitable, goal-setting, hard working, and possessing a "can-do" attitude-- I have had my eyes opened that perhaps there is not as much dividing us from our French comrades as we might think, at least those who truly work for a living and don't rely on the government teat. Bush has had some long dark nights-- it is really great to see this situation and most importantly the Iraq situation turning around to his favor. He didn't stick his finger in the wind and follow the breeze, and now he is going to reap the benefits. I hope so, I really do.
