NYT: Licenses for illegals aren’t much of an issue

I hope the Democrats read this NYT article, believe every word and memorize it.

Democrats declared yesterday that Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s plan to give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants had not proved to be the electoral boon Republicans had hoped for in local elections, despite the Republicans’ aggressive efforts to exploit overwhelming public opposition to the proposal.

But wait, there’s more.

In most of those areas where Mr. Spitzer’s licensing proposal moved to the forefront of the campaign, Democrats were able to cauterize the issue by publicly breaking with the governor, harshly criticizing the plan and in some cases threatening to join lawsuits challenging it.

Get that? Spitzer’s plan was such a nonfactor that it prompted a whole bunch of pols in his own party to break with him and threaten to join up suing him over it. Yeah. That’s a nonfactor alright.

About 77% of the country opposes giving illegal aliens drivers licences. But don’t you stop believin’, NYT!

“Democrats declared yesterday that Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s plan to give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants had not proved to be the electoral boon Republicans had hoped for in local elections…”

So……I guess the Repubs were responsible for Spitzer presenting the plan. Yep, that’s the ticket.

So…….Spitzer presented the plan, against the wishes of his own party. Yep, I’m sure that’s right.

I’m sure that Spitzer never talked to anyone about the need to open up more pathways that would allow illegal aliens to vote in American elections.

Yep. I’m sure.

Mayor Barletta, R. of Hazelton, PA, a town near the NY state border, just got lucky.

Yep, I’m sure.

It’s going to be funny when the democrat party uses those talking points.

Well will it hurt “Sanctuary City” Rudy less than “Massive Voter Fraud” Hillary only time will tell. Somehow I don’t think that 77% of the voters are going to be happy either way.

Didn’t Spitzer come to fame by bringing lots and lots of lawsuits? I wonder if he sees the irony in being sued over his illegal and unpopular plan?

Same thing happened in the Virginia elections. The dems knew it was going to be a killer issue for them so they carried the torch for tough enforcement just like the Republicans were to negate their advantage on the issue.

I love how the opinion of Democrats and the NYT writer is that the issue did not help Republicans and then the facts listed in his own article contradict his just stated opinions: several Democrats in the area, despite greatly outspending Republicans, still lost to them.

What scares me is that 23% of the population think giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens is a good idea.

I hope the Democrats read this NYT article, believe every word and memorize it.

They already did I discovered that link via Huffpo

NY and VA to Lou Dobbs: STFU

That means you too, Rahm Emanuel.

Headline from New York’s election results last night:

“New York Democrats Say License Issue Had Little Effect”

And in Virginia, here’s the headline:

“In the Ballot Booths, No Fixation on Immigration”

Okay, so, in Virginia, immigration demagoguing did not help Republicans, and in NY, despite the quotes from party insiders justifying their abandonment of Spitzer as saving the day and a voter quote cherry picked by the NYT editors to suggest Democratic voter “concern,” there’s really no evidence that immigration demagoguing moved votes to the GOP. At all.

Of course it’s a nonfactor, because the liberals (read: Democrats and MSM) want it to be so.
If ever there was proof that Lincoln’s principle of government “of the people, by the people, and for the people” was dead and buried, illegal immigration is it.
The people have spoken loudly and consistently on this issue. Everyone knows what they have said. Everyone knows what the will of the People is. The open-borders crowd have simply chosen to ignore it.
And for those supporting Giulianni, remember that goes for him too.

Lancer on November 7, 2007 at 10:07 PM

I had to read that about 6 times. They say it is not, but then give proof that it is a factor.
It was so blatant I thought it was a misquote. Don’t they read themselves.
Maybe the only people who read the paper are illiterate. That makes about as much sense as their statement.

When 79% of Americans want something done about illegal immigration and its incumbant costs (hospitals, schools, social service, taxes, etc.), and politicians have no clue that this is the No. 1 issue in the country, something is wrong or these politicians are deliberatly ignoring the will of the people. I believe it is that these politicians are deliberatly ignoring the will of the people as regards illegal immigration. The American citizens are tired of paying for millions of illegals’ health care, schools, welfare, etc. that we pay every year, in addition to being exposed to the diseases that they bring over (leprosy, smallpox, polio, etc.) that are now spreading in our country that were once eradicated.

When a politician wins by 79% they call it a landslide. Our politicians have a clue. I can only surmise
1. They don’t care about us, only their own sorry hides
2. They have decided they can succeed better without us if they can bring in 30 million replacement voters

Motor voter laws mandate voter registration be offered when applying for drivers licenses. Citizenship is basically ignored in my state when applying for a license but voter registration is pushed without explaining it is for citizens only

Add to that the plantation mentality of the Bloombergs who need a compliant obedient group of servants and the snob mentality of the Roves who want to be sure their daughters never have to work as hotel maids and the Kennedy solution of giving freebies and voter cards to illegals is a dream come true

Who would have thought that the elected representatives would emancipate themselves from the people who elected them by busing in new voters? So many new voters they become the only swing vote

SOB’s

I feel like Cassandra here but BEWARE THE TROJAN HORSE!

Remember Campaign 2006? The Democrat Party was at the forefront in pushing to build that fence to counter one of America’s greatest threats. Then, after getting elected, the Democrat Party immediately sought to pander their riled open borders constituency by de-funding the whole thing! Bottom line- Never trust a Democrat when they talk tough on illegal aliens and immigration reform. They’ve proven themselves Judases when it comes to actually putting those promises into fact. The NY “rats” that threw Spitzer under the bus did so for political expediency not because they disagree with his plan.

Again, BEWARE THE TROJAN HORSE!

MaiDee on November 7, 2007 at 9:48 PM

23% seems about right. Those are the people who hire illegals, have family that are illegal, maybe have an illegal GF, and the rest are just your typical ignornat dumb***.

This issue WILL be one of the major issues in ‘08, the Dems just want new voters on the roles and everyone in the country has seen through Spitzer’s and Hillary’s plan to get those new votes. Talk about selling your country down the river, pure gall
