Nov 5, 1979 was the day the Ayatollah Khomeini declared the US the “Great Satan.” That date is now “Death to America” day in Iran. Here’s an Al Jazeera report on the festivities, so take it for what it’s worth.
It does seem apparent that if we’re counting on young Iranians to rise up and toss out their oppressors, we’re probably going to be waiting forever.

We owe much to Jimmy Carter.
Entelechy on November 5, 2007 at 5:31 PM
We could call it “Thanks, Jimmah!” Day!
Frozen Tex on November 5, 2007 at 5:34 PM
See, they’re just peace-loving people, who wish to defend themselves from the evil US, and are really only pursuing nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes. Besides, even if they are seeking a bomb, why should we be able to have one, while they can’t?
Down with imperialism!!1! RON PAUL 2008!!1!
amerpundit on November 5, 2007 at 5:37 PM
Looks like another ANSWER rally to me.
BobK on November 5, 2007 at 5:46 PM
Death to the Iranian regime! Death to Hezbollah!

“Death to America Day,” also known as “Students Day.” Gotta love it.
And speaking of Ron Paul.
Vizzini on November 5, 2007 at 5:52 PM
Death to America Day. Who knew? Not sure why I’m surprised, although only mildly so.
So, at the end of the day… we’re still here! Let’s hope we adopt policies that allow that to always be the case.
Ordinary1 on November 5, 2007 at 5:54 PM
This all @ hole Carters fault. I never understood why the guards at the Embassy did not open fire when they breached the compound.
Should have sent in the 101st Airborne!
CloneTrooper on November 5, 2007 at 5:55 PM
Irony Alert…
That young lady who said “why can’t America take us at our word when we say our religion is a religion of peace”…. at a DEATH TO AMERICA Rally?

Do you suppose their “protestors” are like ours? Unemployed mis-fits with no real goals in life other than to scream inane chants at anyone and everyone? Not to mention they’re just plain ungrateful bastards.
Who sent food, medicine, and millions of dollars to Iran on Dec 26-2003 after a 6.6 earthquake struck Bam, Iran?????
Uh, that would be us, the ones you freakshows are chanting “Death To America” to.
commonsensehoosier on November 5, 2007 at 6:04 PM
Is this the Democratic convention?
right2bright on November 5, 2007 at 6:04 PM
Is it as successful as the “Death to Israel” rallies they have? ‘Cause last I checked, the Israelis (Little Satan) just bombed the bejeebers out of Iran’s little psycho buddy.
Good luck trying to wish death on a bunch of sabras and redneck cowboys, Iran. It hasn’t worked yet.
mjk on November 5, 2007 at 6:10 PM
This crowd doesn’t hold a candle to the America haters we’ve got right here at home. Thanks libs! We’re still #1 at everything!
TexasDan on November 5, 2007 at 6:14 PM
In her poor, brainwashed head there probably was no irony. Too often the Muslim notion of “peace” involves Islam taking over and citizens either being converted to Islam or living as subjugated Dhimmis, living under Islamic law. That is their idea of “peace”- nevermind that Muslim on Muslim violence in Muslim countries isn’t exactly unheard of.
Hollowpoint on November 5, 2007 at 6:17 PM
Where did that crap about the hordes of young Iranians who wanted nothing more than to be rescued by America come from?
Just do them from orbit.
BL@KBIRD on November 5, 2007 at 6:22 PM
How dare you……Dont you understand how un-liberal, un-democrat
icit is to notice such un-important little details like that? Just because they have a national holiday they call “Death to America Day” where hundreds of thousands of people show up and burn American flags and chant “Death to America” doesn’t actually mean that they wish any ill towards America, they are just expressing their emotions in a healthy productive manner… /sdoriangrey on November 5, 2007 at 6:27 PM
Oh god, I don’t know if I can afford the amount of beer its going to take to was the taste of that BS out of my mouth…

Appears more like a road company for SPAMALOT.
(Although SCUMALOT would be the Iranian translation.)

doriangrey on November 5, 2007 at 6:51 PM
I always find it amusing whenever I see anti-American protesters decked out in western clothing and baseball caps. How can someone hate us and emulate us at the same time? Makes no sense to me. Zarqawi died wearing New Balance tennis shoes in his quest to destroy all things American. Go figure.
Guardian on November 5, 2007 at 6:55 PM
But I bet those Tennis shoes were made in China!!!

Which clip is the MadTV clip?

Can we say “Nuke Mecca” yet?
Ochlan on November 5, 2007 at 7:22 PM
It’s called _irony_ dumbo ;-)
Ochlan on November 5, 2007 at 7:23 PM
I think you’re watching a 1930’s cheerleader reunion
Ochlan on November 5, 2007 at 7:24 PM
“When we say our religion is a religion of peace . . . we expect the US to accept that.”
We’re supposed to accept that a country that has Death to America day is peace loving?
Q: “Why wouldn’t they let us use nuclear energy?”
A: Because they have a Death to America day.
Q: “Why do the Americans want to rule the world?”
A: Because we need to protect ourselves from countries that have a Death to America day.
Get it? Got it? Good.
NoSquids on November 5, 2007 at 7:28 PM
Wow! San Francisco is usually not that sunny this time of year. At least they kept their clothes on this time.
ronsfi on November 5, 2007 at 7:36 PM
I have no problem with that as long as we get to have a “#uck Iran” day in America.
MB4 on November 5, 2007 at 7:42 PM
Don’t you dare desecrate the Koran or there’ll be hell to pay
Ochlan on November 5, 2007 at 7:50 PM
Yep, and I think it should be every day, 365 of them.
4shoes on November 5, 2007 at 8:52 PM
I for one suggest we just send up a nuke named “Death to America” and drop it on Tehran.
We can then say “Death to America finally came, and so soon, too!”
BKennedy on November 5, 2007 at 9:25 PM
ugh…The MAD TV clip is “no longer available”?
JetBoy on November 5, 2007 at 9:48 PM
Iran in the UN,Imwearingadinnerjacketnutcase,says Iran
wants to be friendly,peaceful.
Yet back at the Iranian ranch,it’s the same war cry,
“Death to America-Big Satan”,so I’m assuming they forgot to add”Death to Isreal-Little Satan” or thats a seperate day
for Iranians to party.
What kind of loons have a national holiday that its only
event is themed around wiping out a country.
It would be just as nuts if Canada would have a holiday
celebrating the vapourization of Iran.
canopfor on November 5, 2007 at 10:01 PM
ugh…Iran is “no longer available”.
(With apologies to Jetboy.)
[But none to Achmadinejad.]

SILENCE!!!
I keeeelll you!
csdeven on November 5, 2007 at 10:57 PM
Notice how no Americans are marching screaming “death to Iran.” Tap off a nuke though and watch what happens.

We’re only 38 years late in bombing Iran.

Bryan:
Nice balancing act. Just like the Pro Choice crowd, the liberal side of the world is about to abort or explode themselves out of existence.
Let’s ponder how the left and extremists deal with their self imposed devolution of evolution. Nothing will change their position until it is their time to sacrifice, at that point watch the numbers of the undecided grow or the violence to subside. This is natural selection.
MSGTAS on November 6, 2007 at 9:25 AM
I’ve used the analogy before, but if you want to know what we’re up against in the war against radical islamic terrorists, watch Mars Attacks.
There is no negotiation that will benefit the US. The victor will be the one that breaks the will of their enemy and destroys those whose will cannot be broken.
Wingo on November 6, 2007 at 9:57 AM
A sad lot of reasonably stupid people. I don’t think the Iran problem will be solved until we find a new source of energy. Once that happens, they will all go back to their pre WWII lives. No oil,no money, no attention, no body cares.
It will be many years before the people in that part of the world wake up between the ears. You can lead a horse to water…..
