Fake hate at George Washington U

A freshman painted swastikas on her own dorm door.

After evaluating evidence from a hidden camera positioned in response to the swastika postings in Mitchell Hall, University Police have linked the student who filed the complaints to several of the incidents.

Following a final interview with investigators today, the student admitted responsibility for those incidents…

Using footage from a hidden video camera, the University Police Department linked freshman Sarah Marshak with the vandalism. She will now appear before Student Judicial Services and could face federal and District charges, a spokesperson announced Monday afternoon.

In an interview with The Hatchet Monday afternoon, Marshak, who had been a reporter for this newspaper, categorically denied drawing the swastikas on her residence hall door.

Marshak saw six swastikas on her residence hall door, where she lived alone.

I’m just shocked that she’d been a writer for the school newspaper. Shocked, I tell ya.

Stacy McCain looks into the why of this story.

It’s the “American Idol” syndrome: Everybody wants their 15 minutes of fame, and faking a hate crime against yourself is a quick shortcut to the limelight.

Now, GW, any update on the YAF smear? You know who did it. We have him admitting it on video. Whatcha gonna do about it?

Ya, I bet she gets a job with MSNBC or some place like that.

Well, you know, the nazi Republicans hurt her self esteem so much, it was as if they drew those swastikas themselves. So it was the same thing, like. Kinda.

stonemeister on November 5, 2007 at 9:16 PM

Faking hate crimes in places where it is sure to spark outrage and sympathy (like college campuses) is becoming a disturbing trend.

Maybe TNR will hire her to replace Franklin Foer.

Ali-Bubba on November 5, 2007 at 9:22 PM

Those charges better include more than simple vandalism.

mojowire on November 5, 2007 at 9:25 PM

If you search “Sarah Marshak” on Facebook, it looks like she’s from Israel and is a Stephen Colbert fan (what appears to be his autograph is her profile picture.)

How about the noose on the Columbia professor’s door? I’ve long suspected this as manufactured hate, courtesy of a leftist student or professor. Any updates?

Which means she is more than likely Jewish and if so that means a Jew painted swastikas on her own door. What a credit to the millions of her people that suffered and were put to death under that symbol.

People are freakin broken. :(

Always Right on November 5, 2007 at 10:18 PM

This kind of dishonesty doesn’t help counter anti Semitic hatred.

On Friday, University President Steven Knapp said in a news release that the swastikas were “an expression of hatred directed against our Jewish students.” “There is no place for such things at this or any other university,” Knapp said in the release. “We do not condone, and we will not tolerate, the posting of images or texts that vilify any religious, ethnic, or racial group.” Marshak, who is also a Hatchet reporter, left campus to escape any scrutiny after she found the second swastika, she said. Marshak said she did not think the first drawing was an attack. After finding four drawings on her door, she said she is reaching to outside organizations for help. “At this point, I’m taking this past GW,” Marshak said in an interview with The Hatchet. “I am thinking of contacting the Anti-Defamation League. I can’t let this continue.” On Sunday night, she said she was considering contacting her congressman, Henry Wexler (D-Fla.). Marshak said she feels more annoyed than threatened. “I won’t feel threatened until there’s an actual threat on there,” she said. The swastika drawings appeared just weeks after a satirical poster campaign offended a slew of Muslim students in the GW community.

With the writers being on strike, MSM news stations will be scrambling to hire someone with her experience.

abinitioadinfinitum on November 5, 2007 at 10:36 PM

Maybe she was going for ‘extra credit’ from one of her Profs?

I think that those who fake a hate crime should face the same punishment as if they had comitted the hate crime. As it is she’ll probably get a simple repremand and extra credit.

CrazyFool on November 5, 2007 at 10:37 PM

Let,s see a Liberal drawing swastikas in the dorm
to make the other side look bad,is there an election
coming or something.

Maybe ACLU will step in,and say she was practising a new religion which requires drawing swastikas as a form of
ritual,or shes an artist and got artisticly carried away.

canopfor on November 5, 2007 at 10:40 PM

This is a horrible cry for attention from a normal liberal college chick. Nothing more, nothing less.

As I see our future being dumbed down, I see more and more mental problems emerge.

This POS liberal society we are living in is destroying this country.

The NEA is really accomplishing it’s goal. It was a political department from the beginning and now our youths are learning on a curriculum that makes them actually stoopid.

They rewrite history, make socially right choices sound evil , and want control while saying they support true freedom.

I truly believe Savage’s statement that liberalism is a mental disease. And do not agree with him on a while lot. To me he is somewhat on the radical side of the right.

All in all, I see a dim future for this country due to the miseducation of the future citizens

Remember the incident at Columbia where a noose was found on an African-American professor’s door, and the school initially wouldn’t turn the video over to the police (but later complied)? Does anyone know if the culprit was ever revealed? I’m wondering if that was the same kind of thing.

JustTruth101 on November 6, 2007 at 12:00 AM

I’ve asked that same question a couple of times. I’ve felt that it was a fake from the moment the school officials wouldn’t release the video to the police. This woman is supposedly all scared and they aren’t doing anything to help catch someone threatening a professor in such a profound way? Something doesn’t jive.

Drawing the swastickas that republicans won’t draw.

And who would know better how to hate better than a leftist?

And what ever happened with that noose case? Did I miss something?

Heh! If reality doesn’t fit what it is you want to be true (and she wanted to find bigotry and hate), then, well, you can simply create it where none exists. Voila! Instant “truth”. What a moron.

I’m a middle-aged white male. I’m certainly a victim of hate, racism, and discrimination. Is there anything I can hang or paint on my door to broadcast my special plight to the world while getting my 15 minutes of fame?

Rod on November 6, 2007 at 8:29 AM

Nothing will happen, a few courses in sensitivity classes, a trip to the holocaust museum, a few “I’m sorry”, and she is back on campus.
Let the person be a Republican, and she would be hung on a campus tree, and allow the crows to peck out her eyes.

Nascar=Racism

I remember the good old days at GW. Mitchell Hall was so filled with marijuana smoke the students couldn’t even get up to go to class, let alone manufacturer phony hate crimes.

pistolero on November 6, 2007 at 8:52 AM

Hey, how about some sympathy for this poor wannabe student journalist? Here she is, trying to change the world, looking for evil Bushitler conservanazis fomenting racism on campus and she can’t find any! They were probably out clubbing baby seals or peeing on the homeless. What’s the harm in drawing the swastikas that you know those fascists would have drawn if they’d only had the opportunity? So you had to use a little Hate Helper to serve this dish of revenge against all that anti-semitism you know is bubbling up on the Right. The ends justifies the means, dude. Sure this incident was fake, but accurate.

No. Get used to it. Don’t you know we are the cause of major problem in the world? Despised and hated……that’s our role. You can’t have problems in the world if there is not someone to blame.

She is a user on livejournal. http://starrynight87.livejournal.com/profile

I found her profile because she was an award winning member of the “Cappies” in her elite private school in Florida. And of course she is a rabid hillary supporter and all around moonbat.
