what are you doing still workin’ on your vaca, AP?
Eh, I’ve got nothing better to do.

Allahpundit on November 4, 2007 at 10:08 PM

'
Let me get this straight. You're on vacation at 'home?

Don't you work from 'home'?

Now, I understand the call of the busman's holiday.
I've engaged in the practice myself.
But, if I may peel a layer through amateur analysis, I humbly offer a palliative for the psyche.
I would prescribe a small dose of debauchery.
Being a powerful substance, with potential for abuse the preferred psycho/pharmalogical dosage would have to be closely monitored.
And adjusted as needed.

Come to NOLA and spend a week walking the French Quarter.
I know...things have been better down here, but it's still worth the <strike>time and trouble</strike> risk.

And you might even get lucky.

Hell even I almost got laid there once.

Other guys have told me this too: sometimes she looks so good that it’s hard to follow along with what she’s saying. It’s almost like the sound cutting in and out. That happened last year too during our first Bethany Vent.

If ever there were a cue for the Melissa Theuriau video....

She's so hot, I can't understand a word she's saying, nor could I care less.

135 is pretty smart, top 2%.

Race Card and NightmareonKStreet: Your hypersensitivity is showing. Calm down, go outside, maybe spend some time off line…or perhaps read a book, that might increase your IQ score so you don’t have to be so sensitive about it.

Thanks for the advice; now go take a nap. You're probably tired from having to retype hypersensitivity so many times.

***
I was tested and determined to have a high IQ in grade school. I took AP physics, Calculus, Government and composition in high school. I have attended ivy league and other high ranking universities. My alma mater, USC, is less prestigious, but no Podunk U. I have been successful in life...but still have a long way to go.

I honestly think that my IQ was the least determinant factor in my life thus far; second only to college.

Don't get me wrong, my IQ probably makes it easier when I'm solving the Rubik's cube. But I think my parental guidance and discipline was far more important to my upbringing.

My father, a physician, was far more intelligent than I could hope to be; my mother too. My grandfather, who never graduated high school, was one of the smartest people I have ever known.

Incidentally, 2 of my closest friends were in remediation throughout their school years. They were treated as "dull" by people with presumably high IQs. Both of these guys have turned out to be highly intelligent, successful business owners and great friends. Yet it was intellectuals who dismissed them early in life.

A high IQ can be a confidence booster and obvious catalyst to learning. Character, however, is the more admirable quality — enhanced by hard work, commitment and sacrifice.

Being smart just requires you to take a test and get a good score.

Yeah, but Banderas is so ungodly hot that she may be the first anchorwoman whose hotness is actually a liability to her show.

I wouldn't say she's the first, but I definitely know what you're talking about. A few years back we briefly had a reporter (though not an anchor) in Austin whose packages were unintelligible for precisely this reason (no idea what happened to her). Something similar happens with KP, actually...

I was born in Brooklyn, but escaped from New York as a teenager: not going back, wouldn't accept a job located there for any amount of money.

Cities are obsolete. We don't need to huddle together in small, uncomfortable for protection from savage natives or invading armies anymore.

I'm proud to be an "adopted Midwesterner", with 5-6 times the house for the money, free parking, beautiful sunsets.

her test results were false. she says she took the test twice. the second time around, its always higher.

I don't think that's ever been the case for me. Maybe there's been a point or two different but nothing significant.

IQ’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Mine is 144 and I’ve been out of a job for over a year. Potential is interesting, productivity’s a whole ‘nother story, IMHO. …

True. I run a small team at my job, and one of my employees was an editor for MENSA (according to him, they may have been geniuses, but not all of them could spell). Until he started work for me, he'd never had a desk job in his life. He's 54-years-old.

And unless I'm mistaken, he never even went to college.

He's a great guy who is clearly intelligent, but he's not even anywhere near being one of my best employees.

It seems to me, that the real indicator of success is motivation. People who have never had to work in school because of their high IQs generally have a hard time ever motivating themselves to do much of anything.

I've taken the full Stanford-Binet IQ test three times. Once at about ten(school requirement) years of age. Once around eighteen(school again) and again in college as part of a class on administering tests such as this and the various personality inventories. I've never discussed my scores as I have doubts about the relevance and I really don't like the expectations created by scores as high as mine(kidding there). For some reason I've found that those who will blurt out their scores are generally people I don't end up liking. By the way, my scores between ten and eighteen dropped by a full standard deviation which I can only attribute to recreational drug use(I got better).

I joined Mensa in 1981 or 1982. I was an active member for years before I let my membership lapse. I just recently rejoined. Just grateful they don't retest :-) I don't attend any meetings locally. Maybe someday. I like reading the Bulletin and some of the other stuff online. Members get a few deals on a few things too. I don't tell people I'm a Mensan unless the subject comes up (which it never does!), so most of my friends don't know (and probably can't tell :-)

I don’t tell people I’m a Mensan unless the subject comes up (which it never does!), so most of my friends don’t know (and probably can’t tell :-)

(AP, I'll save a copy for you, to help you thru those tough vacation times)

Yeah, but Banderas is so ungodly hot that she may be the first anchorwoman whose hotness is actually a liability to her show. Other guys have told me this too: sometimes she looks so good that it’s hard to follow along with what she’s saying. It’s almost like the sound cutting in and out. That happened last year too during our first Bethany Vent. So help me, I had to watch the clip three times before I knew what the topic was.

Ditto on that one, AP. BTW, any chance of Bethany making a comeback?

Calm down.

Your teacher and your parents lied to you.

I've taken the IQ test several times. The first time I scored a 140. Then deliberately provided the responses that a conserviative would give and scored a 120. Taking the test using my liberal/leftist leaning of the 60's I scored a 100.

The conclusion, liberal/leftist score low because they are dependent persons who expect others to provide them the answer.

A conservative is independent and think for themselves, thus score higher because of their constant search for the truth.

Note to the Brunette on the right, good show.

Note to the Blonde on the left, "street smarts" qualifies you for things like pole dancing.

Race Card and NightmareonKStreet: Your hypersensitivity is showing. Calm down, go outside, maybe spend some time off line...or perhaps read a book, that might increase your IQ score so you don't have to be so sensitive about it.
