NFL Week 9 open thread
posted at 12:15 pm on November 4, 2007 by Bryan
The real Super Bowl might happen today. The unbeaten Colts host the unbeaten Patriots, both coming off big wins last week (well, if you want to call the Pats’ satisfying 52-7 drubbing of the Redskins a big win). The rest of the schedule is anti-climactic by comparison to that game, but Philadelphia hosts the Boys, the Packers go to Kansas City, and there are a whole lot of other games that I can’t be forced to care about.

Blowback

tikvah on November 4, 2007 at 4:45 PM
Detroit Lions 44
Denver Broncos 7
TAKE THAT JAMMIE WEARING FOOL! HAHAHAHAHA!
Jordan Yentsch on November 4, 2007 at 4:48 PM
Favre has now beaten all other 31 teams (besides the Packers, of course). They are 7-1. Bring on the Lions and Cowboys!
packsoldier on November 4, 2007 at 4:53 PM
yep, here we go…. Pats are looking at the Colts fragile receivers cross-eyed, throw the flag.
reaganaut on November 4, 2007 at 5:12 PM
WTG Pack!!!!!!! 7 and 1
oakpack on November 4, 2007 at 5:17 PM
That was one terrible call
Wade on November 4, 2007 at 5:17 PM
Did Barry Sanders die and get resurrected as Joseph Addai?
Pablo on November 4, 2007 at 5:40 PM
I get bonus points on that pass to Addai! Having both Moss & Peyton, & the Lions defense has cemented a victory if Pittsburgh can stretch that Raven defense. :D
ackrite55 on November 4, 2007 at 5:48 PM
Colts defense lookin good:)
christophercube on November 4, 2007 at 5:48 PM
I predict you are both wrong. Oh wait, did I just cheat on my prediction? ::grin::
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 5:49 PM
Truly am I disliking of throwing of inteception to Patriot defender Harrison. Much am I unhappy of this!
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 6:02 PM
Liking am I more of sacking of Patriot Quarterback Brady by courageous and sizable Colt defender. Better More liking am I of failure to score of Patriots and the 3 and outing of them now obliging them to punt!
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 6:07 PM
haha, yes, you probably DID cheat….cheating cheater Pats fan you….
Hey, my prediction is still in the running here…With that NE field goal (Pats 10) the Colts just need to hold ‘em, and score 2 more TD’s (Colts 27)
JetBoy on November 4, 2007 at 6:21 PM
Much badness is there in the kicking of field goal by Patriot Kicker having driven further and longer toward in zone than one would wish.
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 6:28 PM
Picked wonder boy off! Great play!
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 6:34 PM
Big throw Manning!
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 6:37 PM
Gloriousness of interception of Patriot quarterback Tom Brady
achieved through extreme excellentness of catching by courageous Colt defender of diminutive size inspires much joy and hilarity!
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 6:39 PM
TD Colts!
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 6:40 PM
They really should chuck Light out of the game.
Seriously Pats, you don’t do stupid penalty-inducing shit against the Colts. Save it for the Broncos or something.
BKennedy on November 4, 2007 at 6:43 PM
Touching Downess Occurs in appropriate In Zone for augmenting of score in favor of Colts. Much am I contented with this!
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 6:43 PM
Brady Prays a Hail to Mary, Moss recieves the Grace putting Patriots deep in devilish territory! Most Incredible is this turn of events!
BKennedy on November 4, 2007 at 6:50 PM
Pats are folding under pressure….what a wonderful sight! And all those penalties!
JetBoy on November 4, 2007 at 6:52 PM
The Colts are every bit as good as the Pats! This is a war
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 6:56 PM
Much douleur is caused with touching down of Patriots following receiving of pass by despised and elongated Patriots catcher of passes.
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 7:02 PM
Drive of the game right here!
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 7:05 PM
Huge!
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 7:06 PM
Huger!
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 7:08 PM
Now your turn Peyton
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 7:08 PM
Damn only :43 sec. I hope they did not score to early.
F15Mech on November 4, 2007 at 7:10 PM
Extreme Badness! Much trepidation is experienced with touching down of Patriots causing score American Football Game to become unbalanced and unsightly.
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 7:13 PM
Rosie!
rslancer14 on November 4, 2007 at 7:13 PM
The faces of the Colts crowd, they are troubled.
Pablo on November 4, 2007 at 7:18 PM
Much is not to the liking in the losing of control of the oblong orb from hands of Colts quarterback into vile hands of loathsome Patriot defender.
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 7:19 PM
Come again? The clock seems to be running, and no one is doing anything….
Pats 9-0.
Pablo on November 4, 2007 at 7:21 PM
OK now have the Pats played a good enough team to get some credit?
F15Mech on November 4, 2007 at 7:22 PM
Good game
Gatordoug on November 4, 2007 at 7:22 PM
Hell yeah! Colts’ faces…priceless! Love it!
SouthernGent on November 4, 2007 at 7:22 PM
I’ve gotta say, the Indy defense was outstanding. Much better than I expected from them.
Pablo on November 4, 2007 at 7:24 PM
I suppose now football whiners everywhere will switch from “Patriots are running up the score! That’s unsportsmanlike!” to “Patriots are running out the clock! That’s unsportsmanlike!”
Good Game, folks.
BKennedy on November 4, 2007 at 7:25 PM
All is lost. A great choking cloud of melancholy envelops the nation.
Nyog_of_the_Bog on November 4, 2007 at 7:25 PM
I was afraid my fiance’ was going to throw something threw the tv if the Pats didn’t win!
“Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!”
kiakjones on November 4, 2007 at 7:25 PM
Patriots beat the Colts and the completely corrupt Officials. That was the worst officiated game I can remember. I can’t wait to hear the head of Officials explain those calls. It was a blatant as when they tried to steal the game from the Steelers.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 7:25 PM
through*
kiakjones on November 4, 2007 at 7:25 PM
It’s only one game, and if both teams continue to play well, we may have a rematch from last year. The Colts now have the undefeated monkey off their backs and can focus on getting into the SB. The Pats still have to defend their undefeated record. That’s a big distraction.
csdeven on November 4, 2007 at 7:25 PM
over 100 yds in penalties wasn’t enough to stop the greatest team evah! They overcame this and still won.
9-0 on the way to 19-0
rslancer14 on November 4, 2007 at 7:25 PM
You have to hear Fred Smearles on WEEI (you can listen on the web if you can’t pick it up on the radio). He’s going completely nuts over the Officials.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 7:26 PM
Wash your mouth out with soap! I bleed blue and silver. Go Cowboys!!!!!!
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 7:27 PM
Personally, I was having a hard time rooting for either team. I don’t like Manning or Peyton, but since NE has already beaten my Boys, I chose Manning. Dagnabbit!
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 7:29 PM
Oh….my bad, I don’t like Manning or Brady.
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 7:30 PM
So basically, if the Patriots keep on pace, they will break every single record in the NFL. LOL to beating their own most penalty yards record (and still winning the game).
BKennedy on November 4, 2007 at 7:30 PM
Yeah, so did I. It was an entertaining game though!
FireFly on November 4, 2007 at 7:31 PM
And rightfully so. The pats beat Indy AND the officials.
rslancer14 on November 4, 2007 at 7:31 PM
The Pats are so good that a 24-20 victory with over 140 yard s of penalties and two Brady interceptions is considered to be an off day.
Hilts on November 4, 2007 at 7:32 PM
What a load of crap
Wade on November 4, 2007 at 7:33 PM
Yes it was. I just wished for a different outcome. But have no real dog in the fight so good job Patriots, even though I hate you. ::grin::
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 7:38 PM
I just can’t stand to even look at the Olberdouche. Why did NBC have to ruin football?
Sammy316 on November 4, 2007 at 7:39 PM
Hell of a victory for my boys… WOW!
D2Boston on November 4, 2007 at 7:41 PM
Ok, it’s dinner time.
But how big a tool is Belichik? When he shook Dungy’s hand he acted as if he lost…what a jerk!
Jezla on November 4, 2007 at 7:46 PM
Jezla? I didn’t even see if they shook hands. From what I saw there were security and cameras around, but the handshake wasn’t visible,so what are you going on about? Or are you using your imagination as a tool to bash the Pats?
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 7:49 PM
As a Pats fan living in DC when the Cowboys play the Skins I am not sure who I want to loose more.
It was a heck of a game…much respect to the Colts and the game that was played.
F15Mech on November 4, 2007 at 7:49 PM
Yeah, he should have wagged his finger in his face and laughed at him, right?
Pablo on November 4, 2007 at 7:51 PM
Well, next time they play, think of me and my cute ::grin:: and the problem is solved. Go Cowboys!
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 7:55 PM
Pablo, did you see an actual handshake? I admit I only have a 27″ wide screen but I really didn’t see it.
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 7:55 PM
I didn’t see anything unusual, Blitz.
Pablo on November 4, 2007 at 7:58 PM
All of this handshake crap. Please. Give these manufactured controversies a rest for Heaven’s sake. What do you want coaches to do at the end of the game fornicate?
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 8:04 PM
Cedric Maxwell was on The Bog Show Friday talking about how he misses the days when players an coaches spoke the tuth and trash talked. He talked about how he used to go to the locker room door of the Lakers and pound on it, telling them to come out and take their beating like men! LOL.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 8:07 PM
Ok,looking ahead, I can see a loss against the Giants, only because we’ll be playing Cassell and the cheerleaders…OR maybe the ‘Fins if we play the cheerleaders and front office VS the remaining ’72 Dolphins….
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 8:08 PM
Yet another win for Massachusetts’s answer to Cobra Kai and Tom “Johnny” Brady. I assume now the arrogance will know no bounds.
Blacklake on November 4, 2007 at 8:10 PM
Ordinarily I would agree with you, but not this year. If they have a shot they will take it. BB is a historian and he, and the whole team, have a chip on their shoulder the size of My Washington.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 8:11 PM
Seriously….except the Steelers(at home) I don’t see a loss at all unless the Pats choose to go the “rest” route which is highly unlikely.
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 8:12 PM
YOUR Washington??
I was born there (Ft. Lewis)…can it be ours?
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 8:13 PM
Bwahah – I meant Mt – Mount Washington
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 8:23 PM
GO COWBOYS!!!….because I have you as a “D” today and Romo is a starter
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 8:24 PM
MT. Washington? My car shold have a bumper sticker I saw once…
This car fell off Mt. Washington
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 8:25 PM
He could have at least smiled and said something. Tens seconds before he looked like he’d won the lottery.
Jezla on November 4, 2007 at 8:35 PM
Despite your cute ::grin:: tonight I think I will root for the Cowboys. I have an annoying co-worker that is an Eagles fan.
F15Mech on November 4, 2007 at 8:50 PM
Jezla? in football, all is not niceties and tea parties. If I wanted a nice friendly coach for my team, Pete Carrol comes to mind. OH WAIT….he was already here. Yeah, not so much.
Bellichik is one PO’d coach working his way through the teams that PO’d him in the first place (Spygate has many layers) In this case Dungy is lucky he didn’t bring a gun…GOD HELP Mangini.
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:03 PM
Enough of Handshakegate… which team is stinking up the joint worse? Boys or Iggles?
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:04 PM
Lucky for the Pats that some of the Colts best were injured, gave them a pretty good game anyhow. Anybody else come that close to beating the team that lost the AFCchampionship game last year, you know back when they played a healthy Indy?
go cowboys.
christophercube on November 4, 2007 at 9:07 PM
Blitz, I don’t want a teaparty, I’d just like to see a little class.
Oh, wait, I’m sorry, the Pats don’t know what that is.
Jezla on November 4, 2007 at 9:10 PM
Chistopher? Good point, but you have to remember that the Pats were mising their whole starting secondary sans Samuel last year. Also missing were Seau and a half-healthy Light.
I’m NOT putting the Pats in as a lock for the AFC champ this year, but IF we face Indy again It wil probably be at home in bad weather. If so? Pats win.
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:14 PM
CLASS???…define class re: NFL….IF you come up with a reasonable definition,I’ll talk to you.
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:15 PM
Umm, for us Lions fans, one playoff win in 50 years. Not one championship, one playoff win, total. We stopped saying “wait ’til next year in the Reagan Administration.
Speaking of which- GO LIONS!!!
ConservativeLawStudent on November 4, 2007 at 9:30 PM
Best comment of the day!
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 9:32 PM
Question? Are the Eagles really this bad or is it time for a new QB? I know they don’t haven’t have receivers for a while, but Mcnabb?? stinks
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:33 PM
\
Lucky for the Colts they had the most corrupt group of Officials to ever take the field. At least they single handedly kept the Colts hopes alive.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 9:34 PM
I love the Lions…although probably too much as for the last 4 years they’ve royally screwed me in the fantasy games…Let’s see how they do against the Pack, and we’ll talk (GO LIONS!!!)
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:35 PM
Don’t worry, they are getting a room later at the downtown Indy Hilton. Feel better now?
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 9:35 PM
DAM straight Big Dog
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:35 PM
Hey, when all the football blogs, including those frequented by insiders, call it out, you know you’ve got a major problem. When Charlie Casserly (sp) “predicts” the calls before the game even starts, you know there’s something fishy going on. Just ask Joey Porter ;-)
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 9:38 PM
How about because of instead of despite of?
Anyways, you can root, root, root for the Eagles all you want. Won’t help them. The Boys are going to win!!!
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 9:38 PM
I saw some that were calling it before the game. On espn this am,I think it was sportreporters, not sure, they were talking about this officiating crews tendencies and it didn’t sound good at the time. I didn’t think it would reall happen though!
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:41 PM
Ya, this was Casserly, former GM of the Texans who “predicted” that Moss would be called for offensive pass interference, etc.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 9:43 PM
Green football? Highlights in the dark? These liberals are insane fools.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 9:47 PM
I don’t know the reference. Could you enlighten one?
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:49 PM
Actually, he didn’t predict Moss, just that offensive pass interference would be called because he had studied the crew officiating and noted that they tended to call at least one.
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 9:52 PM
From what I understand he was on one of the pregame show (CBS or Fox) basically saying that Moss is going to be called for offensive pass interference and the Pats for Defensive pass interference.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 9:52 PM
and yeah….liberal=fool…well not exactly?
Progressive liberal=fool….not quite right,I’ll get it
OK,Liberal=FOOLED and Progressive=Fooling his/her self?
Blitz on November 4, 2007 at 9:52 PM
Ah ya, a new crew. A brand new official with 7 games under their belt. Right.
TheBigOldDog on November 4, 2007 at 9:54 PM
Sue on November 4, 2007 at 9:52 PM
Sue,he DID predict that call on Moss specifically. That much I remember through the beer and wing hazed mist over my mind.
