Ahmadinejad has got to be getting sexually aroused about now, watching his news leads. Right now he's asking his nuke engineers how much longer before he can get into this cluster flock.

The situation in Pakistan is very unsettling. President Pervez Musharraf is caught between a rock and a hard place and is holding onto power by the end of his fingernails....

Time to confiscate and remove their nukes until after civilization is restored to Pakistan.

(By "restored", I of course mean: once it finally reaches there. Which will only be AFTER Islam's extremism and intolerance and calls to terrorism are removed from the Koran, and thus, from the region.)

Musharref could already be dead as I type, so the US command needs to have our special forces teams ready to go into the Pakistani nuclear silos and start slipping their warheads OUT of the country.

Before any al-Qaeda clones seize power, and start launching them, to feed their apocalyptic wet dream.

I don't know why that middle link did not work. Let me try again. It goes into detail about the history of India's democracy. Try here.

It is very educational and I recommend it. Though I understand that this thread is about Pakistan and what is going on there. I don't think they should have divided India and Pakistan, but that is history now.

so since you married one of the BILLION Indians you qualify as an expert?

Calling India the worlds largest Democracy is a <strike>joke</strike> FACT.

From the Brookings institute

More recently, the Clinton administration pressured India to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty-which had the unintended consequence of strengthening the bomb lobby in Delhi.

In May 1998, India tested five nuclear devices. Pakistan promptly responded with its own nuclear tests. The United States reacted by imposing economic and political sanctions on Delhi.

Another person (not my words)

With a billion people, the Republic of India is the world's largest democracy. With a population nearly four times that of the United States, India modeled its government on the British parliamentary system, with a healthy dose of influences from the United States and the rest of Europe.

Different source claiming 2.2 x America's population voting in the 2004 election in India.

An estimated 670 million Indians will go to the polls in the world’s largest democracy between April 20th and May 10th to vote for their next government.

Back to a quote from you

Pakistan is considering the enforcement of Sharia in a very small area in an effort to stave off the whole country sliding into Islamic Fundamentalism.

And I bet this genius move will work as well as his move to allow more autonomy in the NW region of Pakistan where Musarraf won't send troops, but he won't allow US troops either. Thereby allowing a safe haven for the Taliban (which he supported before 9/11) to regroup and attack both him and American soldiers.

Man, I guess you are right. I need to marry one of the billion non-democratic Indians to understand what is going on there. Only then will I realize when everybody else in the literate world who says that 'India is the world's largest democracy' that everyone else is wrong but me.

but he really has done a fair job of preventing PakiWakiLand© from sliding all the way into Islamic Fundamentalism complete with Sharia.

Pakistan is considering enforcement of Islamic laws in Pakistan’s north-western Swat valley to meet the demands of pro-Taliban militants

And you say I am poorly informed. This is one reason I am reluctant to even post on such subjects. People who don’t know jack try to tell me that I don’t know what I am talking about.

Yes, I do. And you demonstrate that fact with this little missive. Pakistan is considering the enforcement of Sharia in a very small area in an effort
to stave off the whole country sliding into Islamic Fundamentalism. What is
it about that you do not understand? Personally, I'd sterilize the whole
region.

I KNOW India never signed the NNPT. BUT THAT IS THE ONLY REASON THAT DIPLOMATIC RELATIONSHIPS WERE STRAINED WITH INDIA. Other than India detonating Nukes in the late 90’s, we had no problem with the world’s largest democracy. When they detonated the nukes after we asked them not to, it strained relations because that act violated the NNPT (even though they did not sign it). You are so informed tell me why our relations with India have been strained until only recently.

That is not what you said. India/USA relations were strained because India used to be a client of the Soviet Union, AND quite Socialist. Calling India the worlds largest Democracy is a joke. It has a Parliamentary structured political system that is Democracy-esque, but the Commies (Maoists) are causing lots of problems. You keep referring to India's violation of the NNPT, they can't violate something that they never agreed to.

[dribblings deleted...]

Anyway, sorry for being so poorly informed (/sarc). I consider people on this board to be some of the more intelligent of the electorate. I doubt that 90% of Americans of voting age can even locate Pakistan on the map. But they all vote.

You are not only poorly informed, your critical thinking skills are deficient as well. I am fairly in tune with the goings on in the region, I ought to be, I've been married to an Indian National for about ten years and have spent half that time living in India. Most of my in-laws work in the government (politics) and the Military. You should lurk more, and post less.

Islamic cult states are sovereign nations....bwaahaaha! That's funny, they're a hodgepodge gathering of tribal savages eagerly waiting for the chance to cut the throat of the warlord two mountains down.

And, if given the chance, would nuke you, me, their neighbor, the Joooooos and anyone else who they thought didn't worship the God of the day in the way they believe it should be done, all while screaming, "Yiyiyiyi God is great!" Sovereign nation, that's rich.

Welcome to the world of resurgent empires. We Americans no longer possess the meaningful sense of history to grasp what is going on in the region. Listen very carefully to Mussharaf's lecture to the "West." It is a similar thread that comes from the "post-colonial nations"; nations - such as India/Pakistan, Persia/Iran, Ottoman-Turkey that have long and storied experiences in this kind of intrigue. Regardless of what we bing to bear via power and thechnology, we are just an irritant to the historically imperial.

Armitage really believed his threat to bomb Pakistan "into the stone age" was taken seriously? We would never allow ourselves that luxury, we have been guilted into "civility" by the "3rd world." They knew we would ever do that. If GW would have done it, impeachment would never have been a shrill phrase.

We may have been beat before we got started post 9/11...

When they detonated the nukes after we asked them not to, it strained relations because that act violated the NNPT (even though they did not sign it). You are so informed tell me why our relations with India have been strained until only recently.

As a result of that, Pakistan got nuclear weapons in defense of themselves. This is the main problem with N Korea and Iran getting nukes. If N Korea wants nukes you can be certain that Japan will get theirs. If Iran gets nukes, you can be certain that Saudi Arabia will want theirs.

Pakistan has never been our friend. They have PRETENDED to be our friend because we have given them money and sold them weapons. If we didn't give them money, there would be nothing positive coming out of Pakistan concerning jihadis.

Musharraf let AQ have the entire NW providence of Pakistan last year and told us we could not attack them. Now they are going to enforce sharia law there. . . but 'he's done a good job'? For who? Pakistan did not want sharia 10 years ago. Now the majority do.

What we need to do is become VERY VERY VERY close allies with India and go at this region from there. After 9/11 we should not even have allowed Pakistan to 'become our friend'. They were the only nation that recognized the Taliban. We should have gone after AQ through Pakistan from India. India is our friend. They were not at that time because THEY VIOLATED PARTS OF THE NNPT which we expect other countries to recognize (like IRAN). We should share our Anti-ballistic missile technology with India and completely stop dealing with Pakistan period.

Anyway, sorry for being so poorly informed (/sarc). I consider people on this board to be some of the more intelligent of the electorate. I doubt that 90% of Americans of voting age can even locate Pakistan on the map. But they all vote.

If we didn’t give them money, there would be nothing positive coming out of Pakistan concerning jihadis.

Musharraf let AQ have the entire NW providence of Pakistan last year and told us we could not attack them. Now they are going to enforce sharia law there. . . but ‘he’s done a good job’? For who? Pakistan did not want sharia 10 years ago. Now the majority do.

What we need to do is become VERY VERY VERY close allies with India and go at this region from there. After 9/11 we should not even have allowed Pakistan to ‘become our friend’.

[...] Musharraf has suspended the Constitution of Pakistan in order to establish military law this week. Was this due to a rise in the power of the Taliban? No. Increases in al-Quaeda sponsored bombings in Islamabad? No. The biggest threat to President Musharraf has come from his own Chief Supreme Count Justice. We didn’t blog much about it but the biggest blow to Musharraf’s authority this year didn’t come from the Taliban, it came from his political standoff with the country’s chief justice, whom he dismissed on an apparently trumped-up corruption charge in an earlier bid to intimidate the Court — and saw it blow up in his face when mass protests were held and the Court reinstated the chief justice. I thought between that, the return of Benazir Bhutto from exile, and the disaffection within the Pakistani army at the campaign against the Taliban that Musharraf would have to keep his nose clean from now on. Instead he’s doubled down. And since he’s relying entirely now on the military for his authority, he’ll have to address that disaffection by scaling back the campaign in the tribal areas. Which means we might as well finally turn off the tap of that military funding that’s brought us jack squat for the past 4-5 years. — [Hat Tip: HotAir] [...]

Sometimes a strong dictator is necessary to prevent the worse alternative.

Easy to say when you sit in the comfort of the good ol' USA.

Allowing states run by the Islamic cults to remain in possession of nuclear weaponry is the logical parallel of letting the roomful of 2 year olds in my son’s daycare take possession of my locked and loaded M4.

What are you a nanny? They are a sovereign nation and the world is a dangerous place.

Any damage that follows is our responsibility as any reasonable person of average inteligence would clearly see the likelyhood of a disasterous occurence due to the volitility of the object and the lack of intellectual capacity of the individuals we allowed to possess it.

The way I see it, for the time being we don't have any better options other than continuing to support Musharraf.

If he does as he promises the benevolent dictator approach could be a benefit to us.

If a counter insurgency gains a gigantic following and crushes the dictatorship, nukes fall into the hands of America's enemy.

If Musharraf has his hands untied he might be in a better position to take on the Jihadis and at the same time we can trade our cash for his action and our participation.

Musharraf is like a glass that is half full or half empty, Bhutto might be the same, plus or minus. If those two could get together, maybe three quarters full. Anyone else would likely be just flat empty and very dangerous.

A missed opportunity. Musharraf was shunned when he came to power in a coup. He was forgiven when he helped the US get rid of the Taliban in Afghanistan and continued his support afterward, lukewarm as it may sometimes have been. Unfortunately, his thirst for his own power made him blind to reality. Had he let things go it may be true at some point he would no longer be the leader of Pakistan, but he would still have been Respected. He would still be a Person of Importance and have US backing.

He blew it.
