Joel Stein on the Paulnuts: “There’s a lot of freaks out there”
posted at 12:16 pm on November 3, 2007 by Allahpundit
Yes, that Joel Stein. Here’s the rEVOLution piece from Time to which Tucker refers. The money line, as already featured in headlines: “No. They’re all nuts. I’m just a guy in a shark suit.” Although Frank Luntz gets in a good knock too.
Same deal here as when Maher tangled with the Truthers. Whom to side with? The Ronbots, or the guy who doesn’t support the troops?

Sometimes Stein is amusing. I can’t provide a link, but I’m sure I’ve snorted at a column or two of his. Even an ass can be right once in a while.
I can’t stand Ron Paul, but I it’s his supporters I really can’t stand.

The Ron Paul movement has been very interesting to watch. But is the word “revolution” really accurate?
Jay on November 3, 2007 at 12:24 PM
Yeah, it’s kinda like a case of the enemy of my enemy is…my enemy.
I’ve been in many, many discussions with Paul supporters, and I have yet to really figure them out. They hit it spot on, when referring to Howard Beale from Network, as the “Paulbots” often refer to themselves. I agree also that Paul’s supporters are generally the “screw the government” crowd.
And it only reinforces their beliefs that the “corporate media shills” are out to get ‘em, when Paul is removed from their polls and such.

O/T: CNN just reported that the whole in the ozone layer has gotten much smaller this year. And…I know this will shock you…it may be due to weather patterns, not our efforts to save the earth.

His crabgrass line is good. And he seems like a nice enough guy when he’s on Fox. Be he and his ilk have done far more damage to the Republican party than Ron Paul and his fanatics ever could.
Candidates who use statistical analysis to develop their position on an issue is why the Republican party finds itself in the position it is in now.

Neither. It’s like Iraq-Iran. Just let them beat the hell out of each other.

Say it 3 times:
Freaks & Geeks & Truthers
Freaks & Geeks & Truthers
Freaks & Geeks & Truthers
Now spin on your head until you puke.
Now it all makes sense ;-)

I think what Joel Stein said about “supporting our troops” makes a lot of sense and was honest. And by the way, he clearly opposes hostility to our troops. On the other hand, the typical leftist lying about “supporting our troops” does the political discourse no good. It just verbal pollution. And the typical leftist is quite capable of actual hostility to our troops. In short, I don’t think it fair to hold what Joel Stein about “supporting our troops” against him.

Stein was on the panel during the Maher/Truther faceoff. Maybe that opened his eyes a little bit? Or as open as his eyes can get, the squinty lil’ dickens.

Stein’s been on my feces list since he implied that bald women were pity dates. ;-)

Not going to happen if our President has anything to say about it, Paulbots and Joel Stein are evildoers.

Thing about Ron Paul and Libertarians.
It’s great that Libertarians support and embrace our constitution, except that our constitution defines a federal republic not a libertarian democracy. Same problem with Democrats striving to create a social democracy. Same problem with moderate Republicans who are often striving for the same social democracy as Democrats.
So, I have to ask, which presidential candidate of any party embraces our federal republic system the most? Duncan Hunter, maybe?

Right to lifers?
Now who is trying to alienate who?

You know, I’ve never been asked to appear on the teevee before, but I’m pretty sure it’s bad manners to, like, smoke a whole bunch of pot before appearing on camera.
I’m just saying is all.

Though you can disagree with Steins opinions on the Troops, at least he is refreshingly honest.

“There’s a lot of freaks out there”
No kidding… I just had one in my freaking HOUSE. Seemed like a perfectly normal guy, we visited with him and an old friend of ours for a couple of hours. Then he asked me what I thought about Ron Paul. I thought “uh oh” but gave him a straight answer – many issues, including dangerous naivety about Islamic terror. Then he started going on about all these questions he’s got about the WTC… I said Popular Mechanics answered every one of them. But he’s not buying; doesn’t trust PM.
It’s unbelievably creepy to have sat down, had a meal with someone and entertained them in your home, only to find out they are batsh!t crazy. Plus, I had an extra concealed carry permit app, and I had given it to him when he first got here. So now he’s going to be a lunatic with a concealed weapon. Just freakin’ peachy.

BREAKING!
My own Truther experience today… it all started when my mom called me when she was on her way over to my brother’s house to watch my nieces, and said that she’d just yelled at some guys “Standing in front of Fanny Allen”. “Fanny Allen” is actually a separate campus of what is now all called “Fletcher Allen Health Care”, our major hospital up here.
But Fanny Allen’s hospital affiliation wasn’t what was important here… it’s that they’re located directly across the street from the main enterence to Camp Johnson. My mom must have been slowing near the stop light there, because I’m usually doing 50 around that area (it’s 35, but turns 45 shortly thereafter), but apparently she say there “US Did 9/11″ banners and heard them shouting and she yelled something about “LIES!” back at them. Not the greatest, but it’s a busy main road with a median you’ve got to watch out for, etc. It’s not a downtown street and there’s no shoulder.
She called to tell me, knowing it would interest me… luckily I had to go somewhere before they closed at noon, because I was tempted to go park at Fanny Allen and get in to it with these douches. I should note, they hang banners of the busiest cloverleaf interchange in the state pretty regularly… seems to be they do it at night though when no one is around, and everyone then sees it on their morning commute… So at this point, I’m sufficiently irritated by these people.
At any rate, I debated calling the cops to find out if they had a permit so they might be able to boot them out of there (if that’s possible?).
At any rate, it just so happened that by the time I hit the road, I needed to go over the overpass I mentioned, where I’ve often seen their signs hang, and it seems they had been booted from Fanny Allen, because they were now their, holding there sign. I attempted to show them “my sign”, but I was too far past them when I saw them.
When I finished my business I had to do (and by business I mean exchanging my cable modem for a new one at Comcast), I went out of my way to not take the interstate so I could drive by these SOBs again, and let a few expletives fly. I succeeded in that much, and they were certainly pointing at me, but across many lanes of traffic on a busy bridge, I couldn’t make out what they were saying.
Anyway, it appears they were booted from Fanny Allen (again, right across from the entrance to Camp Johnson). My mom did say she saw security around there (not sure if it was St. Michaels College or the hospital.. I assume hospital), so maybe that’s what happened.
At any rate, my blood has been boiling all day. I can’t stand these people, and if it weren’t for the repercussions, I think I’d probably have made a cocktail of some sort to be thrown at them out the window of my car. If there’s one thing we all know by now, these people can’t be reasoned with. It’s simply impossible. I just wish there was some “loophole” in assault laws, designed just for these type of people, don’t you?
RightWinged on November 3, 2007 at 6:16 PM
btw, there giant banner really was that lame.. it wasn’t even “9/11 was an inside job”. I can’t remember exactly, but I’m pretty sure it was “US Did 9/11″ or “Bush Did 9/11″, I can’t remember… Either way, it was some lame ass sh**.
RightWinged on November 3, 2007 at 6:18 PM
….and it looks like I need to eat, I’m saying “there” instead of “their”, etc. and sounding like an idiot.
RightWinged on November 3, 2007 at 6:18 PM
Tempting, I know… but it’s not worth it. We’re better than that, frankly.
Nothing you could possibly say in this thread or elsewhere could top “9/11 was an inside job.” You know what really frosts me about these people – is most of them don’t even take responsibility for what they’re preaching – they’re “raising questions” or “have concerns.” When this troofer said that to me, I said, “well, here’s your answer – there’s no f***ing way the government did it.” He was out of here in less than five minutes. But I’m worried about our friend, who brought him over. If he’s on this bandwagon, it’ll trash a friendship that has lasted over 25 years.
Laura on November 3, 2007 at 6:26 PM
And it’s creepy how viral this is – you can’t even tell, at first, that a person is infected. This guy came in here with someone we trust, hung out for a couple of hours, and only at the last minute did we find out he was completely insane. That’s scary.

The History Channel’s 9/11 Conspiracies Episode: Fact or Fiction is coming on this evening and at midnight tomorrow. Right Wing Nut House describes it as 9/11 TRUTHERS GUT PUNCHED BY HISTORY CHANNEL so I’m going to record it and keep a few copies handy.
Laura on November 4, 2007 at 10:51 AM
Yeah, it’s a good watch Laura… I was afraid it was going to be disappointing, but it turned out great. Previously I would direct people to “Screw Loose Change: Not Freakin’ Again Edition” and thought I’d still be doing the same after the History channel thing, but they actually did an awesome job.
