Video: Victory parade in Ramadi

We’ve been hearing about the turnaround in al-Anbar for months now. Rep. Steve King (R-IA) described walking down the street and shopping in the Ramadi market when we interviewed him a few months back. Though liberals still deny that it’s happening at all, the Anbar Awakening is slowly spreading around Iraq.

Cuffy Meigs has a little more context and video of a victory parade down Ramadi’s once war-torn main street. It’s almost surreal to think that less than two years ago Ramadi was the most dangerous city in Iraq, if not the entire world.

Hell…from what I’ve read, it was that way as recently as early this year.

Great news, Bryan! Maybe there’s hope for peace after all.

Add to it this new AP story

Friday Iraqi death toll near record low

But let’s not focus on all that’s going well. Hey! How ’bout that latest car bomb?!

flipflop on November 2, 2007 at 5:26 PM

What say you, Dems?

I’ll wager they will be spinning this victory into some kind of defeat in 3…2…

If we hear anything but crickets.

This is awesome, the lefties told us it could never be done, rooting for failure, but now this is a victory for Iraq, for Freedom and for America.

For the bad news, we need a thread for Hugo … Staff?

Sorry ’bout this post, but I don’t know how/where else to ask. Has anyone heard of an Iraqi military unit taking up a collection for the wild fire victims in California? I saw in one source that $1,000.00 had been donated by Iraqi soldiers, but I haven’t seen it confirmed.

Washington, DC (Associated Press)– Harry Reid (D-NV) announced today that the turnaround in Anbar Province is a direct result of global warming.

“It is clear that these people have succumbed to the devistating effect that global warming poses to the human psyche. Whatever they are doing there must be stopped immediately,” Reid says. “By the way, the surge has failed.”

“The United States needs to divert all of its money, forces, time and resources to stop scourge that is global warming.”

When asked to elaborate further, he replied, “Didn’t I just tell you the surge has failed? No further questions.”

God bless the decent people of Iraq! Nothing succeeds like success.

What is it about the sight of a peaceful assembly that makes me appreciate FREEDOM? I feel very happy to see the unsufferable violence perpetrated upon these folke has been beaten back into the F’n spider hole where it belongs. It may take awhile but we are gaining allies there in Anbar. These people are the constituency of the next elected officials of Iraq. I hate to say it but it now becomes clear why the Sunni minority ruled the Shite majority for all those years.

Careful now, too much celebration will put wind beneath the wings of those calling for troop withdrawal asap. I can hear Reid now: “Although I told you we lost this war so should bring the troops home, it’s clear that we’ve won this war so NOW will you agree to bring the troops home?”

So, does this mean Gary, Indiana is back on top?

Awesome.

Is it wrong to be enjoying their enjoyment of a parade?

Mommynator on November 2, 2007 at 9:16 PM

Wow, when our son was serving in Rimadi a parade of this
type was unthinkable…..we are thankful that his units work and sacrafice seem to have made a difference in the lives of the people of Rimadi….

Shaykh Sattar’s brother, Ahmed, is in the US until November 10. He, and an Anbari delegation, met with Bush and Rice yesterday. Met with Gates earlier in week.

What do you mean? The Dhemocrats have been for victory all along. In fact, their constant defeatism actually helped us win sooner. *sarc off*

Watch for this line of reasoning in ‘08.

Thank you so much for your son’s service and your sacrifice supporting him.

I trust your are proudly showing that video to all your friends and neighbors.

Oh, and send a copy to Harry Reid, with your son’s autograph.

Just watched the Steve King interview.

To paraphrase Golda Meir, who said that the conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis “won’t end until they begin to love their children more than they hate us,” the war in Congress between the Democrat leadership and President Bush won’t end until they begin to love America more than they hate George Bush.
