Quote of the day

posted at 10:30 pm on November 2, 2007 by Bryan

“In a funny way she’s protected by her reputation. It’s so well known it’s not news. It doesn’t make an impression anymore. People have pointed out her ethical lapses for so long that they seem boring, or impossible to believe. “That couldn’t be true or she wouldn’t be running for president.” This thought collides with “And we already know all this anyway.” Her campaign uses the latter to squash the latest: “old news,” “cash for rehash.”

I’ve never seen anything quite like this dynamic work in modern politics. But the other night, for the first time, I had the feeling maybe it isn’t going to work anymore, or with such deadening consistency.

Ouch. That’s gonna leave a mark.

Peggy at her finest.

Purple Fury on November 2, 2007 at 10:41 PM

Yes, Peggy at her best.

Let’s hope next time we’re in the WH, we’ll hire folks like Noonan, Krauthammer, Snow from the start.

petefrt on November 2, 2007 at 10:46 PM

We can only hope…..

I am Hillary, hear me be a bore
My butts just too big to ignore
And I’ve concealed too much for you to ever get me in the end
’cause I’ve hid it all before
And I’ve got it all locked up behind a safe door
No one’s ever gonna pin me down again

CHORUS
Oh yes I am a sneak
But it’s sneakinesses that will be to my gain
Yes, they’ve paid my price
And look how much I gained
If I have to, I can hide anything
I am sneaky (sneaky)
I am conniving (conniving)
I am Hillary

FADE
I am Hillary

I am sneaky (sneaky)
I am conniving (conniving)
I am Hillary

- Helen Reddy (or not)

As far as her hard core crazy supporters go, Hillary would get away with eating a live baby in the middle of the street.

csdeven on November 2, 2007 at 11:01 PM

I am Hillary watch my butt grow
See me unable to reach my toe
As I spread my controlin’ arms across the land
But I’m still an female gigolo
With a long long way to go
Until I make that Bill understand

I am sneaky (sneaky)
I am conniving (conniving)
I am Hillary

Major league smack by Peggy! Loved it

Thats exactly why we need a brilliant ad on Hillary,
to remind the young who are eligeble to vote, and remind
everybody else the things Hillary tried to pull while
her husband was getting serviced in the Oval Office.
Like going on Good Morning news show and putting on
the Right Wing Conspiracy lie,and under the same breath
was using the media as damage control,or as an unelected
offical was trying to take over health care, not to bad for a First Lady that didn’t have authority, unless your Queen Hillary.

canopfor on November 2, 2007 at 11:22 PM

The Clinton’s have never been transparent. Hillary rides on the rockstar status of her husband like some porno movie you just can’t avert your eyes away from. The main stream media’s fawning over the Clinton’s is like watching the audience that moves from The View to across the hall to the Oprah show. It’s like if you keep going to the same deli and eat the same sandwich day after day even though you hate the food, you still keep going back for more.

These are the people that need a new menu.

Kini on November 2, 2007 at 11:52 PM

WHAT?

Almost two hours after blog is posted and only nine comment posts?

Consider it a sign of the times….

Well… let me see if I can generate some interest..

Hillary Clinton is done, as in finished, she won’t be the nominee for the Democratic party…

PERIOD.

END OF CONVERSATION.

The end of the Clintonistas era has arrived, with a crash-and-burn.

You heard it here first.

Mcguyver on November 3, 2007 at 12:25 AM

Who the hell can trust the woman? She’s a damn sneak. Half the people in her life died mysteriously, she goes through paper shredders like her husband goes through interns and what the frig, she sits in teh Senate and tries to act like a bigshot and dictate her opinions. Who the frig does she think she is? Respect and power are earned, not given!

johnnyU on November 3, 2007 at 12:30 AM

Hillary out??????

Bawhahahahahahahahahahahaha

Funny you bring that up. I run into many former honor guards from the Clinton era, and all have other than good things to say about her and Bill, and many (including other veterans from the 1990′s) comment on the record number of deaths and suicides of military, secret service, and anyone else connected to their admin., that was not war or deployment related.

But check out Drudge. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071102/ap_on_el_pr/bill_clinton_papers_6 Talk about spin. If there is nothing to hide, how hard is it to hire some highschool and college kids (support your local economy and education) to “scan and post” all those documents?

They are bad news. Please, no more Bush’s, and definitely no more Clintons.

El Guapo on November 3, 2007 at 12:54 AM

We only think Hillary is doing well, because the media and polls tell us so. They are compensated liers.

More likely, she is in third or forth place.

Edwards is probably first, Obama close behind.

AZCON on November 3, 2007 at 2:12 AM

Her complete screwup of trying to walk BOTH SIDES of the illegal alien license plan has killed her.

Edwards’ ad showing Hillary’s dramatic gaffes is ready-made for the GOP to use during the general election.

I would love to be a fly on the wall at her campaign. Her support of BOTH SIDES of the issue kills her La Raza support and any support from law-and-order Democrats. Two birds with one stone. Karl Rove couldn’t have planned it any better.

Anyone for hoisting a cold one to toast Tim Russert??

fred5678 on November 3, 2007 at 3:33 AM

Republicans can go after Hillary for supporting abortion, being soft on illegals, wanting to increase the governments role in health care, being pro-gay and being anti-gun.

Too bad that Rudolfo can be attacked on all of those as well.

MB4 on November 3, 2007 at 4:00 AM

The Hilderbeast isn’t dead by a long shot. Has anyone seen Tim Russert since the debate?

Buzzy on November 3, 2007 at 4:31 AM

Nor is it that John Edwards seems like a furry animal on a wheel, trying so hard, to the point he’s getting a facial tic, and getting nowhere, failing to get his little furry paws on his prey, not knowing you have to get off the wheel to get to the prey. You have to stop the rounded, rote, bromidic phrases, and use a normal language that cannot be ignored.

Damn… that article has enough quotes to last the rest of the year! Brilliant.

Mark Jaquith on November 3, 2007 at 5:08 AM

Hillary is what happens when you 1) are a control freak, and 2) willing to do virtually ANYTHING including lying, cheating, slandering, stealing, and enabling if not actually encouraging (cf: “bimbo eruptions”) a serial philanderer husband, just to get even more control and power.

It all blows up in your face anyway. And you are left with NO integrity, many rightful enemies and a horribly damaged soul.

Internet gambling is still illegal, or I would place a large dollar figure against your prediction.

sweeper on November 3, 2007 at 8:22 AM

Can’t stop imagining her at 85 or 90 years old, possibly having been president and getting all the power she so deperately wanted and struggled all her life to have. All those things she did. Was it worth it, to damage and slander and lie to and steal from all those other people? How will she feel as she faces the very end of her life?

I feel sorry for her. I really do.

inviolet on November 3, 2007 at 8:25 AM

canopfor on November 2, 2007 at 11:22 PM

No, no, no, no.
She (they) is (are) masters at political ju-jitsu. Nothing else needs to be done to expose her weaknesses. What the Republican nominee needs to do is focus on his own specific platforms. It is impossible to score points with independent voters by making an ad saying Hillary is duplicitous when they refuse to say what they are for. Telling Americans that you are for “lower taxes” to “ensure economic growth” is truly meaningless to the vast majority of voters who will be making the difference in the general election.

As the great Ms. Noonan wrote in this piece, it is a lot easier to attack when you know what stand for.

You are wrong on two counts:
Go knock yourself out and go bankrupt. Enjoy the ride.

.
AZCON on November 3, 2007 at 2:12 AM is correct:

We only think Hillary is doing well, because the media and polls tell us so. They are compensated liers.

Those national polls are way off because of warped and twisted questions AND… this is key, the answers are uninformed and off-the-cuff biased.

Otherwise, a hard line positive/negative poll question like this wouldn’t be so revealing:

Half Of Likely Voters Would “Never” Vote For Hillary……..
the former first lady is steeped in negative attitudes, according to a Zogby International poll released Sunday.

.
.
…and it gets worse, (note to the Hillary suck-ups of the world) this was all before Tuesday’s debate!

This latest poll indicates an increase in the number of people who say they won’t vote for her,

I mean, MORE PEOPLE WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR HILLARY THAN WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR GRAVEL AND KUCINICH!

Some of you pessimists never cease to amaze and humor me with your deductive analysis and rationale….

So…keep on humoring me.. I’m thoroughly enjoying myself.

Mcguyver on November 3, 2007 at 12:27 PM

rpower57 on November 3, 2007 at 12:41 PM

She turns every dance into the polka.

I love P. Noonan’s writing. On this one I’d call it not a polka, but an Argentine tango – with 300+ steps it’s most difficult and the combinations are myriad…

Slick will not work in 2008. Hillary will not be president.

How will she feel as she faces the very end of her life?

She won’t feel guilt or remorse. Like a true narcissist, she’ll never believe she made a mistake. Like a true psycopath, she’ll never feel guilt.

Truer words were never spoken. If you do not know what a narcissist is, look it up. It is Hillary. Great article by Peggy Noonan, one of her best! I do think Hillary’s skeletons will come to haunt her if she wins the primary (although she will think, as a narcissist does, that they do not exist! Only her staff will remind her of her skeletons which she will probably brush away saying the public doesn’t remember a think about that…..) She is really a scary individual if you think about her in the Whitehouse, being the most powerful individual in the world (excuse me while I throw up in my mouth a little)
