Sometimes reality trumps parody. If Her Majesty's armed forces feature a music medal with oak leaf cluster for irony, some British bandmaster with a wicked sense of humor deserves it.

I'm a little disappointed that the Brits in the follow-on segment did not trip up the taqqiya of the Muslim apologist for the Wahhabi hate literature sent by the Saudis to British mosques. And American, too. The irony is that the Islamist maintained that freedom of the press allowed such venom to be printed, a freedom of the press Islam rejects and which is being used so cutely to undermine the West.

He also makes the tu quoque argument that other religions also have hateful passages in their holy books, but leaves out the part that only Muslims act out their hateful scripture.

Lastly, he dissembles when claiming that the evil fatwas being promoted are from an old context, not mentioning that it is exactly those medieval fatwas which form the political program that Islamists want to impose on Britain via Sharia law.

The segment was a missed opportunity. You need Robert Spencer to confront slick propagandists like this one and slap him down hard.

That was intentional, and it was awesome. Don't count the Brits out yet, remember the guys with the guns decided to play the Imperial March.

So while the pop culture association is heavily influenced by the movie, in this case the playing of the song would have been thoroughly benign, even expected.

But its still funny.

As long as the West stops Iran from building the Death Star I'll be glad.

reminds me of a possible urban legend - Jimmy Carter was campaigning (perhaps in South Dakota?) and when he arrived the band struck up "Marching Through Georgia". Apparently Mr. Carter was not amused by W.T Sherman's inspired anthem...

And so, as the Japanese Prime Minister alighted on Canadian soil, the band struck up…with a wonderful version of Bridge Over the River Kwai...

The name of that tune is actually "The Colonel Bogey March," and it was written in England during WWI.

Quoting the piece's Wikipedia entry: "'Colonel Bogey' is the authorized march of The King's Own Calgary Regiment (RCAC) of the Canadian Forces."
