Open thread: The “everyone nukes Hillary” debate! Video: Richardson sucks up to Hillary; Video: Obama raps Hillary over archive secrecy

9 p.m. ET on MSNBC. “For the second presidential debate in a row, Hillary Rodham Clinton can expect to be everyone’s punching bag,” writes the AP, which is reason enough to watch. Obama’s been promising to go on the offensive; if he ducks her this time, his supporters will be exasperated and the perception will be that he’s soft. What’s more interesting is how she fends him off. Does she play the damsel in distress by intoning about how his campaign is supposed to be about hope, not attacks? Or does she surprise everyone by showing a little steel for the fence-sitters leery of a woman as C-in-C and go on the offensive herself by nailing him on his “semi-gay” semi-celebrity supporter, Donnie McClurkin? That would be a shrewd, easy way to get to his left on a hot-button issue for the benefit of the base.
If you’re watching, you know what to do. E-mail us if you see something clipworthy, please.
Update: Something to chew on while you wait.
So I was down in DC this past weekend and happened to run into a well-connected media person, who told me flatly, unequivocally that “everyone knows” The LA Times was sitting on a story, all wrapped up and ready to go about what is a potentially devastating sexual scandal involving a leading Presidential candidate. “Everyone knows” meaning everyone in the DC mainstream media political reporting world. “Sitting on it” because the paper couldn’t decide the complex ethics of whether and when to run it. The way I heard it they’d had it for a while but don’t know what to do. The person who told me )not an LAT person) knows I write and didn’t say “don’t write about this”.
More (Bryan): Chris Roberts, a frequent commenter here at Hot Air, is on the scene at Drexel U and is liveblogging the debate. He’s sitting a couple of rows in front of The New Republic’s rep, fwiw. I asked him to ask TNR why Franklin Foer never returns my phone calls.
Update: Hi, I’m Bill Richardson and I’d really, really like to be Hillary’s vice president.

If the Dems and the Good Guys continue to incessantly bash her, she will have to be on the defensive for the next year, and we won’t have to hear about her fantastic plans for America.
Might be a good thing.

I think I will actually listen to this debate just to remind myself of what big government types want to do to this country.
Weebork on October 30, 2007 at 8:48 PM
Edwards and Boy George were an item in 1984. Did coke off George’s gut.
that’s what I heard, at least.

Interesting update.
JammieWearingFool on October 30, 2007 at 9:03 PM
Such a tease. Since it hasn’t already been splattered all over the news, we can safely assume it’s about a Democratic candidate. If it were a Republican, we’d be nauseated from the replay by now.

We’ve got rising health care.
Someone shoot it with a bb gun, dammit!

Mike Dukakis as played by Jon Lovitz.

BUSH IS NOT RUNNING!!!!
I just watched a 40 minute Democratic Press Conference on Senate votes and what Bush is doing to stop their plans….in 40 minutes I did not hear one challenge/rebuttal to anything the Repub. candidates have said.
BTW – Edwards is tearing Hillary a new one so far but calling here out on some specific issues
HILARIOUS

No wonder these guys wont attack Iran. They are too afraid to even take on Hillary. And they are getting their hats handed to them by someone who is so easy to defeat

Dang! Why did Barry walk right up to the bundled money and chicken out?
RW_theoriginal on October 30, 2007 at 9:49 PM

I can’t get in on the debate live-blogging fun because I don’t have cable, but I want to place my bet on the juicy story that the MSM is sitting on. Hillary did Whoopie, or somebody of the female persuasion.
smellthecoffee on October 30, 2007 at 9:51 PM
And Dodd’s clock proves it. At the first commercial mark:
Hillary 9:48
Obama 5:37
Edwards 5:37
MSNBC moderators 3:50
Richardson 3:29
Kucinich 3:00
Dodd 2:56
Biden 2:42

I’m liking the way Russert keeps using Bill against Hillary. That’ll be useful next year.

Obama: Social Security is a sound program. Until more people retire than work. (me: so, a generational ponzi scheme is sound economic policy in Obama’s head? yikes)
VolMagic on October 30, 2007 at 10:07 PM
Yuck. I got the MSNBC video working, but I can’t stomach it. Is Hillary always this angry? I hope she stays that way. Night, ya’ll.

Obama: The rich must pay a bit more than their fair share…
Then wouldn’t that be, by definition, unfair?
Wineaholic on October 30, 2007 at 10:09 PM
Obama and Clinton on SocSecurity reminds me of the scene from “Police Squad” where Frank Dreben is standing in front of the still-exploding fireworks factory saying, “There’s nothing to see here.”
steveegg on October 30, 2007 at 10:09 PM
Uhm…errr…Donnie McClurkin is gay. Trust me when I tell you. My gaydar is infallible. I don’t think everyone needs to come out, but “celebrities” don’t need to say one thing and do another either…well…he IS a democrat so it’s not surprising.

Brian Williams: Don’t I look good. Look at my jaw. And my eyes. Watch them glint as I dramtically rip my glasses off my head.

That’s even stranger.

Second break talk-o-meter update from Dodd’s campaign:

Kucinich 4:24
Biden 4:07

Edwards wants to investigate oil companies. Don’t they do that like every year and find that price is tied to surprisingly (to socialists like these idiots) supply and demand?
Drew on October 30, 2007 at 10:19 PM
But, but, but I thought the Dhimms were in favor of higher gas prices. Oh, that’s right, they’re in favor of higher gas prices only when they’re the sole beneficiaries.
steveegg on October 30, 2007 at 10:21 PM
Boston Legal is on now too. Is there a Bush bashing comparison counter between it and the debate anywhere?
RW_theoriginal on October 30, 2007 at 10:22 PM
If not, start one up.
steveegg on October 30, 2007 at 10:23 PM
Does Dodd say he wants higher gas prices because otherwise people can’t afford alternatives?
RW_theoriginal on October 30, 2007 at 10:24 PM
Yeah, that’s true, I think he did say that. I just extrapolated given that paying more OF one’s fair share doesn’t even make logical sense. I’ll assume that the Messiah just stumbled on his words b/c he seemed to flub through that entire answer, but indeed what he said was even stranger.
Oh, and hearing Edwards talk about energy conservation with his house is grand. And I love how he wants to rebuild New Orleans according to central planning. Nothing builds community like tell people how to live.
Wineaholic on October 30, 2007 at 10:26 PM
Hillary!: we shouldn’t give people their tax money back, we should be investing it into money holes like universal (fill in the blank)
Wineaholic on October 30, 2007 at 10:29 PM
He did sound like he was fumbling through the whole answer. It could be nerves because of the daggers headed at him from his immediate right.

Obama:

Krazy Kucinich.
It seems to me the main theme of this debate is “MORE GOVERNMENT! BIGGER GOVERNMENT! GOVERNMENT HUNGRY! FEED ME!”

How did a question about hedge funds consistently turn into an answer about how bad the Iraq War is?

Richardson: We are behind in education compared to the EU, the countries in China and India
