Colmes challenged Ann with the words of Christ, saying that those who kept the Law of Moses would be rewarded for it in heaven.

At that moment, Ann could have said, “Jesus also said, ‘No one comes to the father except through me.’ If you don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, then you will not go to heaven.”

Did she say that? No.

According to Ann, Jesus Christ is NOT REQUIRED for salvation. Keeping the old law is sufficient.

It’s a shame that Colmes only touched on the core of the dispute and allowed himself to have to face and indignant and offended person instead of one who did say something quite arrogant and odious.

1. Does this mean that regular Jews are flawed, imperfect, and inferior?

Apparently her real mistake was not advocating conversion or death, beheading, bombing pizza parlors, and wiping Israel off the map. Then she might have gotten an invitation to speak at Columbia.

From one religious Jew to another: word. I’ve seen this a million times in my interactions with liberal, irreligious Jews. If you’re Orthodox, you can offend by simply pointing out the obvious–like say, that egg matza isn’t kosher for a seder. Then you get, “Well in my Judaism, yada yada. . .” Now you’re attacking “their” Judaism (to each his own, apparently) even though it says right on the box of egg matza that it’s not for use at a seder except by those who can’t tolerate regular matza (the elderly, the ill, etc). Just read the box moron, and then go bitch at the Manischewitz Corp about “your” Judaism. This is the same crap here. And now, to dust off my #1 favorite New Testament quote, taking liberties for context, “Colmes see religion–but he sees religion as trees walking.” Heh.

Yes – sometimes literal interpretations ARE wrong. “White people” are not literally white. A white American who was born and raised in Johannesburg is not an “African American”. A “black” guy (who is, of course, not literally black) can be an African American even if he has no ancestry from Africa.

Sorry to be touchy on this subject, but anti-semites use the “Arabs are semites too” argument to distract any discussion about their antisemitism.

A Jew could practice any religion and still identify as a Jew. Jewish ethnic culture is seen in language, clothing, mannerisms, often in facial features, meals, music and humour. There is even a “Jewish” marker in the DNA. All these (and many more) aspects are Jewish without a contingent relationship to the religion of Judaism.

Of course many disagree with the notion that Jews are a race. Some prefer “ethnicity” or even “nation”. The nearest analogy I’ve found is, paradoxically, the Arabs.

The Arabs, like the Jews, can be a variety of races and nationalities. Arabs have their own culture. Arabs are strongly linked to a religion, but conversion to a different religion would not alter the fact that they are Arabs.

I’m not sure how you make that leap. I did not suggest that religion can’t be criticized; you’re reading way too much into my comment. Colmes wasn’t engaged in criticism of Christianity. He had a prepared “gothcha” quote, with which he was trying to silence Coulter. The man obviously knows next to nothing about Christianity, so he’s quite out of line to dictate to Coulter what she does or doesn’t believe (or ought to).

Concerning Muslims, I don’t go for those who try to define what Muslims do or do not believe, such as the basic meaning of the word “Islam.” Does it mean peace or submission? I’ll give Muslims the benefit of the doubt that it means peace to them, provided their actions match their words. For many Muslims, though, the word means submission–at all costs, as evidenced by their violent actions.

I’m beginning to think that Ann Coulter desires these accusations, so that the [inevitable] resulting firestorm will help sell her book.

A mere, citation of the above Scripture would put an end to the matter of what Christians “believe,” concerning their prayers for the salvation of the Jews. I don’t think that Ann Coulter wants an end to it.
