It’s in two segments. The harbingers of pissiness begin at 5:10 of the clip and continue until 6:00, and then the fun starts in earnest at 11:30. The obvious recent comparison is to Ahnuld giving Claire Shipman the secret authority handshake but it was easier in that case to decide whom to root for. Who’s our horse here? Instinct says to side with the American over the Frenchman — but Sarko’s a pro-American Frenchman and Stahl’s a card-carrying member of the mainstream media. Plus, she’s asking him about a painful subject — but a newsworthy one, and she does so politely. We’re going to have to go to the scorecards.
Decision: Sarko wins, but only because of Stahl’s condescending affected “deep breath” to try to calm him down. Click the image to watch.

Hell will freeze over, before I side with a 60 Minutes hack.
OhEssYouCowboys on October 29, 2007 at 3:46 PM
In the same segment the 60 Minutes report referred to the “immigrants” that were rioting and torching cars in France. No Moslems in sight, no Jihad, just “immigrants.”
Kalapana on October 29, 2007 at 3:47 PM
I’ll Back Leslie Stahl when she has the guts to ask the Clinton’s about their Maritial problems during this campaign
William Amos on October 29, 2007 at 3:48 PM
Merci Beaucoup Monsieur Sarkozy!
Topsecretk9 on October 29, 2007 at 3:48 PM
“who’s our horse here?”
Man, I dunno. It’s not about who I like or who I dislike as much as it is about me being totally entertained by MSM bloopers.
John from OPFOR on October 29, 2007 at 3:48 PM
I’ve seen everyone but Republicans tell the media to piss off, Arnold being a hybrid. Our guys just sit there and take it.
JiangxiDad on October 29, 2007 at 3:51 PM
60 Minutes gets pwned again. Plus Stahl’s sad yellow mushroom impersonation makes me laugh myself silly.
Okay, that was cruel. But I’m still laughing.
baldilocks on October 29, 2007 at 3:53 PM
I was under the impression those guys were more akin to gangbangin thugs from the hood than players in a concerted religious riot
ernesto on October 29, 2007 at 3:53 PM
I sorta beg to differ. I’m not down with memebers of the media pressing foriegn leaders about personal lives in so-called important interview venues. Sarkozy’s personal life has zero bearing on me -the french have a right to decide for themselves.
Not sure I made my point well, though.
Topsecretk9 on October 29, 2007 at 3:54 PM
Heh. That’s exactly what she looks like.
Allahpundit on October 29, 2007 at 3:56 PM
Weren’t most of the rioters born and/or raised in France? Not exactly “immigrants” (at least not by American standards).
calbear on October 29, 2007 at 3:58 PM
Whole thing only made me respect him as a statesman a whole lot more. Can’t wait to see how he pisses off the EU, and his approach to Iran. Maybe he really can change France.
As a whole, however, what a hit piece. Focusing on his temper and his wife? 60 Minutes has gone from news magazine to tabloid.
MadisonConservative on October 29, 2007 at 4:00 PM
Seems like a pretty cool guy. I like him, and I don’t blame him for walking out when asked about his wife. Somethings should be respected and left alone.
Spirit of 1776 on October 29, 2007 at 4:05 PM
I kinda wish he was our president. That guy has charisma and will hopefully bring France around.
At least when he walked out he did so respectfully.
I’ll side with a Frenchman if it’s Sarko the American.
Esthier on October 29, 2007 at 4:05 PM
Sarko L’Americain? She says it like it’s a dirty word. Sarkozy having to break it down to her by listing Arnold, Albright, Powell, and Rice to show how ‘free’ it is in the U.S. When she condescends to him about wanting to change the 35 hour work week to ‘work more, earn more’, I had to stop watching. She’s accusing him while he’s going out amongst the crowd being adulated by the crowds for wanting to do just that.
Leslie is a lefty hack who needs a good hair cut, or at least brush the hair out of your eyes because you’re not 15 anymore, and to wipe at least 2lbs of make-up off her face in the lame attempt to look as young as the bad Meg Ryan-do. If I had to sit in front of that face being asked stupid questions, I’d be angry too.
Sultry Beauty on October 29, 2007 at 4:07 PM
I wouldn’t call airing the footage of his berating his staff - before the interview even began - to prove that he’s volatile as polite. It’s a hit piece.
SouthernDem on October 29, 2007 at 4:08 PM
Personally I thought he was exceptionally nice and well-composed for a guy with an open wound like that. He’s a tough cookie — of course, he’d have to be, wouldn’t he?
Numenorean on October 29, 2007 at 4:12 PM
That was a good report from CBS, how unusual. I like Sarkozy, anybody that tells the media to stuff it can’t be all bad. That woman should have know better than to ask him that question, stay out of his personal life. Who can blame him for stopping the interview, that’s the way to deal with the media, our American politicians could learn something from Sarkozy.
Maxx on October 29, 2007 at 4:13 PM
Typical media garbage. Attack our friends and appease our enemies. They blame Bush when foreign leaders hate America, and then attack anyone who has a good word for us. By the way, has Lesile Stahl hit the wall or what?
RobCon on October 29, 2007 at 4:21 PM
Did you see her face when Sarkozy said he loves everything about America? Her liberal mind was assploded.
Zach on October 29, 2007 at 4:22 PM
You’re probably right about their intentions, but it backfired becuase if it did anything, it made me like him more.
forest on October 29, 2007 at 4:27 PM
I thought Sarkozy’s part of the interview was good, and when questioned about something that is personal and truly none of Stahl’s business his walk out was with dignity. Stahl, on the other hand, takes the interview to her usual place and that’s with a smirk. It’s a drive-by blind sided approach to what used to be called journalism.
24K lady on October 29, 2007 at 4:32 PM
Surely they’ll ask Mrs. Clinton about her personal life next time she’s on for a twinkie-munch session, no?
JammieWearingFool on October 29, 2007 at 4:32 PM
No copntest here, AP.
It’s Sarko L’Americain in a 4-game sweep.
Mike D. on October 29, 2007 at 4:33 PM
To understand Leslie Stahl’s interview with President Sarkozy, you have to understand Ms. Stahl’s background. She is a dyed in the wool baby boomer, whose finest moments in her career came when she could join the gang up on Nixon and other Republicans. Ms. Stahl adores Jacques Chirac and Chirac’s imperious antiAmerican attitude would find deep resonance with people like Leslie Stahl. Ms. Stahl likely adored Charles De Gaulle’s constant criticims of the US and Georges Pompidou’s public embrace of the Arab world. Her interview with President Sarkozy expressed amazement and dissapointment that any French citizen could find something to admire about the United State.

Degrees of organization and degrees of religious indoctrination and motivation will all vary from place to place and time to time, as muslims continue their expansion. The particulars don’t seem to matter except insofar as they’re useful in preserving and enlarging our excellence, freedom, and wellbeing. To those ends, it seems best to put the riots down first, and then to inquire into the causes and remove them. And it seems that you have removed the causes of riots when those causes can no longer think of rioting.
Kralizec on October 29, 2007 at 4:48 PM
I think he was great. A useless interview is scheduled when he was busy trying to save a dying country. She starts asking questions he feels are out of line and lets her know and when she persists he ends the interview and goes back to work. She is used to the spineless American politicians kowtowing to her and acting like she is deserving of some kind of reverence and obedience. A dryed up, old, irrelevant liberal propagandist.
peacenprosperity on October 29, 2007 at 4:51 PM
Sarkozy is wonderful. My husband works for a French owned company, and it is such a relief to know that there is someone running the country with a good head on his shoulders now.
Leslie Stahl deserved worse than what she got. She tried to turn a great inspiring and hopeful interview into a sleeze show. No one cares about his private life, we just want to know how he’s going to turn France into a real ally again.
And what the heck is she trying to cover up with those bangs??
ctmom on October 29, 2007 at 4:53 PM
Nice swat - out of the ballpark.
OhEssYouCowboys on October 29, 2007 at 4:55 PM
You had me at pro-American Frenchman, you had me at pro-American Frenchman.
- The Cat
P.S. Maybe we could trade him for Reid and Pelosi.
MirCat on October 29, 2007 at 5:00 PM
She is a lefty socialist 8itch, and she does not like the fact that the French no longer have a long time America hater as the boss anymore. She wanted to torpedo him and he gave her the big flip off.
Good for him
conservnut on October 29, 2007 at 5:08 PM
The concerted might be in doubt, but the hood these thugs were from were very religious (Muslim) hoods.
Esthier on October 29, 2007 at 5:09 PM
And the current riots and car torchings in Brussels also have nothing to do with the ongoing “soft” Jihad occurring in the West.

I won’t hold my breath for 60 Minutes to run a story on this either….
Kalapana on October 29, 2007 at 5:37 PM
My Southern gal is coming out….
Sarky is just precious as pie!
YES! For once a Frenchman I can actually stand to listen to.
I think the dude is cute as a button…..for now.
SouthernPride on October 29, 2007 at 5:37 PM
I can just envision the lefties in our country lining-up at the tattoo parlors to have their French flags covered with something else.
Notice Stahl didn’t apologize to the president. She just sat stunned.
Black Adam on October 29, 2007 at 5:38 PM
Sarkozy is French, but he is trying to resurrect the US-French alliance. Against 60 Minutes? It’s a no brainer.
And it’s easy to root for Sarkozy over 60 MInutes.
hadsil on October 29, 2007 at 6:06 PM
60 Minutes has turned into a video National Enquirer.
(Wait, that happened a LONG time ago…)
desertdweller on October 29, 2007 at 6:21 PM
Sarkozi had me ‘allo. I love this guy more every time he makes the news. Just when I was ready to write off France once and for all they go elect a guy with some stones. Who’d a thunk it?
mugged on October 29, 2007 at 6:50 PM
Sarko wins hands down.
I love how stunned Ms. Stahl is that he loves America so much. One could just see her wheels turning, thinking, what’s there to love? Don’t you know that we suck?
Bon courage Sarko!
Buy Danish on October 29, 2007 at 7:17 PM
You’ll notice when she asked about his wife she slipped in a reference to his Press Secretary whom she knew he was upset with. It was a deliberate, pernicious attempt to goad him. I would side with anyone this happened to even if they were a leftie because it has happened to me and its very unpleasant being provoked in this manner. Sarko is a good man and I wish him well.
aengus on October 29, 2007 at 7:27 PM
To bad he didn’t b*tch slapper, he has to have immunity from being prosecuted.
Maybe he has learned a leson and will stick with Fox for any future interviews.
CloneTrooper on October 29, 2007 at 8:00 PM
It is just like a member of the msm to get a chance to interview a head of state and then go “the inquirer” on him.
They really go for the cheap salacious stuff because they don’t really want to deal with the truth.
The funniest thing is that she is so gauche, she don’t even realize what a fool she made of herself.
TheSitRep on October 29, 2007 at 8:57 PM
I think he was very much the gentleman, he reached out and shook her hand and thanked her, then split.
TheSitRep on October 29, 2007 at 8:59 PM
Who is the last president they showed getting made up? Did they ever show Bill Clinton being made up? Chirac, maybe?
boru on October 29, 2007 at 9:05 PM
Boors are a bore, whatever their gender.
Go Sark!
profitsbeard on October 29, 2007 at 10:23 PM
I think Sarkozy was extremely polite to Stahl. Probably more polite than she deserved.
I think it was quite rude and disrespectful of her to ask him questions about his wife and the state of their marriage. This may come as a huge shock to the lefty Grandees of the MSM, but people’s private lives, even those of prominent public figures, i.e. the President of France, are none of their damn business.
DavePa on October 30, 2007 at 1:46 AM
Wow, I really was impressed with Sarko.
p40tiger on October 30, 2007 at 5:36 AM
Hey 10/10 for Sarko imho!
Dead right not to disclose his marital problems to some scandalmongering interviewer on TV. Sheesh.
