Lefty spin yesterday: Righties won’t condemn Laura Bush; Lefty spin today: Righties will condemn Laura Bush

Heads they win, tails we lose. Remember, HuffPo’s lament yesterday was that righty bloggers were supposedly practicing a double standard between Nancy Pelosi’s wearing of the hijab and Laura Bush’s — a claim that blew up in their face when it turned out this site and LGF had both criticized Laura Bush before HuffPo’s post was even written. Now, to save face, here comes Think Progress acknowledging that we (well, LGF at least) criticized her — and that we were wrong to do so, because her deigning to wear the Islamic equivalent of a chastity belt is a glorious celebration of someone else’s culture. I know I’m preaching to the choir but understand this about these idiots: for all the whining they do about the “right-wing noise machine,” for all the paranoid accusations they toss around about us supposedly getting our marching orders from Karl Rove, there are no conservative bloggers remotely as servile towards their political leadership as Media Matters and Think Progress are to theirs. You won’t hear any Republican candidates boasting about having started LGF; you won’t find any Bush cronies with their fingerprints on Hot Air. That sort of creepy, embarrassing task-mastery is reserved exclusively for the left and their faux-outrage Finger Wags of Shame, which are themselves designed simply to inject narratives into the mainstream media to spin coverage for political advantage, not out of any genuine objection. Consider this a reminder, just so we’re on the same page.

Well said, AP.
The people are shameless.

Very true. I did however notice that you left Redstate out. Good idea.

What gets me is that they have no condemnation of the treatment of women by Islamic cultures but get outraged when the right jumps on western women for feeding the mysogeny of Islam.
I will take the blame for being harsh on western women who wear the hajib (almost called it the hajob) if the left admits that it is totally silent on the case of how Islam treats women

Nice takedown Allah.

I’ll bet you Nancy Reagan wouldn’t have worn one for anyone.
I’ll bet you BARBARA Bush wouldn’t have put one on for anyone.
Don’t know if Rosalyn Carter would have or not.
Hillary Clinton would only be improved by wearing one…constantly
With Laura Bush, I imagine it was purely politeness that she wore it. Whether or not George W. wanted her to do so or not. Being polite in general is her nature.
With Pelosi, no telling why she wore it; politeness, wanting to show solidarity with / subservience to sharia, or whatever. I don’t care that she wore it, I only care that she was there to undermine America and hurt our efforts to stabilize the world. Treason is treason, and how you dress when committing treason is pretty much irrelevant.

well put, a.

I condemn her for wearing the hijab… Where were her advisors? Didn’t they think that western women would be repulsed by her actions? I am repulsed…
Babs on October 26, 2007 at 9:15 PM
Would muslim women be polite and adopt western garb when visiting the US? I don’t think so. ‘Nuff said.

9:30 Friday night. I’m commenting on a blog. I need to get a life.

I’m watching old UFC knockouts right now and this post was the literary equivalent. It was so good I’m cut and pasting it for future reference. Nice takedown indeed.
One of the things that bugs me about people on the left is how little they actually care for repressed people in other countries. Military action is always bad, no matter how much good comes of it. Foreign aid is always good, no matter how much of it goes into the pockets of the regime leaders or how little it does to ultimately solve the problem of why people need aid in the first place.

Hillary has already worn one. Looking for the link now.
CrimsonFisted on October 26, 2007 at 9:54 PM
Odds are, I am not going to find it. Looks like all my links were blown away when I upgrade Firefox.
Ick.

Remember this from earlier this year:
Female Pakistani Minister Shot Dead for Refusing to Wear Veil
and this from last fall:
Sweden’s Muslim minister [Nyamko Sabuni, a woman] turns on veil

Good grief.
Wasn’t the head scarf a gift and didn’t our GREAT First Lady do what any would have done when presented with a gift?
You people who condemn Laura need to spend a few days in the South so you can learn manners.
Texas Gal on October 26, 2007 at 11:31 PM
There’s more than one way to wear a scarf, and I think it would have been polite enough for her to drape it around her shoulders with a nice US flag pin to hold it.
NellE on October 26, 2007 at 11:41 PM
If you notice how Laura is wearing the scarf that was a GIFT, you will see it is NOT in the traditional way. I really think there is too much BDS here that is spilling over into STUPIDITY!
Texas Gal on October 27, 2007 at 12:13 AM
It’s not. A chastity belt is something far, far worse in practice. Though if you talk about symbolic meanings, the headscarf is worse.

This is what they are, this is what they do.

You can pretty much stop there, since that is Liberalism in a nutshell.

Off topic, again, but I just saw this one at Power Line:
The Jerusalem Post reports that Secretary Rice has sought the advice of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton ahead of her planned Middle East peace conference scheduled to take place soon in Annapolis. The White House called the meeting with Carter positive and “to the point.”
The Post also reports that Rice has recently conferred with Dennis Ross, James Baker, Henry Kissinger, and Madeleine Albright. Having died in 2002, Cyrus Vance was unfortunately unavailable. Secretary Rice means to do some serious damage before she leaves office.
And to think, I used to believe she would be a good president. Is there a brain-damaging virus at the Departmet of State?
