A case where, by all accounts, the number and severity of death threats do not rise and fall with the general level of “paranoia” or hysteria, real or imagined, but remain steady throughout?

Yeah, cuz they’d never think to send someone with no obvious connections over our highly secured borders, or through our airports on a traveler’s or student visa, or some random guy with a case of Sudden Jihad Syndrome comes along. Neeeever happen. Don’t be stupid.

While AHA has offices at AEI, it looks to me like the trust is not actually being officially sponsored by AEI, but is being set up by AHA privately. This is something that should probably be clarified. I don’t mean to imply that that’s necessarily a bad thing, and given how a lot of folks feel about AEI outside of conservative circles, some degree of separation may, in fact, be a good thing. Absent a recognized institutional sponsor, however, it will be important — for what will presumably be long term fund raising efforts — to establish the bona fides of this Trust in a more formal way.

At a minimum, AHA should be able to provide a clear, official, statement of purpose for the Trust and specific contact information for the Trustee who, in turn, should be able to provide legal assurances to contributors that the funds will be used for the stated purposes. Interestingly, a search for AHA on the Jackson & Campbell site, pulls up a single link to a PDF on What You Need To Know About Recent Changes To The Concept Of “Trust Income” Under State Law And The Code. A private trust is a differnt kind of legal entity (and of relevance here, notably less transparent) than a charitable foundation.

AHA is clearly responding to the expression of widespread interest in supporting her security needs, and I fully intend to lend a hand, but there’s potentially a lot of money involved here which means a potentially massive PR debacle if it’s handled in too casual a fashion. According to another email. in circulation, her office is also setting up a separate “public U.S. charity (501(c)(3)) that will support Muslim dissidents around the world.” Worthy causes both, but I do hope that Ms. Ali has contemplated the full burden of administration and accountability that such endeavors require!

Don’t be a jerk, scooter… Some of us are CAREFUL and suspicious of where we send our money. I just want a third party I recognize, have used in the past, and trust.

Sending money through the mail is risky, and not necessarily the brightest thing to do these days.

I love Ayaan, and I want to help…but this has nothing whatever to do with whether I remove my fingers from the keyboard or not…only with being smart with my money.

Oh, nonsense. First of all, no one has said they would only help if she used Paypal. Second, if a Paypal arrangement can be established, she can get a lot more money even faster. More money more quickly means security sooner. Get it?
