You didn’t think this was going to slip away quietly, did you? That ovation at that debate was all the encouragement J-Mac needed to reprise it in ad form and remind us again of his most sterling credential. It’s efficient in every way: inexpensive in its use of recycled footage, elegant in its contrast between the heroic POW and the carefree hippies twirling in the mud, and of course potent in tapping into the gigaton cache of combustible Hillary-hate. Well played. We’ll miss him, sort of, when he inevitably drops out.

If voting against Hillary is the only, or even the main, motivation that Republicans offer for voters to vote for the Republican nominee, like say Rudy or McCain, then Republicans will almost certainly lose.
If Republicans paint too bad a picture of her, then all she will have to do at the Presidential debates will be to not foam at the mouth to look good by comparison.
Voters will think that Republicans have nothing to offer but fear and “Did you know I was mayor of NYC during 9/11?” and “Did you know I was a POW?.”
Hillary will offer hope (and lots of goodies!!!).
One does not need a crystal ball to figure out the probable outcome.

Ditto!

I like this ad. It’s too bad all of the good anti-Clinton stuff is going to be used up so early. Why didn’t McCain show up for the DREAM ACT vote today, since his immigration stance is costing him a lot of support?

Oh MB4, such gloom and doom. Steady yourself.
Maxx on October 24, 2007 at 6:02 PM
McCain may drive me crazy sometimes but I have to admit this ad is perfect. The best so far this election.
Complete7 on October 24, 2007 at 6:08 PM
Did he drive you crazy TODAY when he hid in the closet while the Senate was voting on cloture on the Dream Act, or was he just Manny being Manny?

McCain has many, many sins to atone for.

Can you say milk?
There where allot of Navy pilot that finished their missions.
Failing to evade capture does not make you a hero , it makes you a P.O.W.
These guys are heros
Wesley Fox
Alvin York
Audie Murphy
just to name a few.
I respect the service and sacrifice of McCain and Jessica Lynch but come on.
TheSitRep on October 24, 2007 at 6:28 PM
Huh. I thought you were in the tank for Hillary.
RushBaby on October 24, 2007 at 6:32 PM
Nope.

Because he hasn’t changed his stance on the issue of illegal immigration and amnesty. The only difference is now he is going to be less, in your (our) face, about it.
Zetterson on October 24, 2007 at 6:44 PM
I’m glad to see these candidates are finally injecting some humor in their messages.
Nice work but you still won’t be getting my vote mister senator.
The Ugly American on October 24, 2007 at 6:44 PM
Ouch. Not giving up information or turning on his buddies while being tortured beyond anything you or I can comprehend is what makes him a hero. And it’s kind of tough to evade anything when your body is smashed into little pieces following a plane crash.
BadgerHawk on October 24, 2007 at 6:45 PM
I wonder if his campaign advisor had to handcuff him and lock him in a closet to prevent him from voting yes, as he almost certainly would’ve wanted to do were he not in a campaign.

Hippies Smell:
Clarence W. Townsend, who runs a 150-acre dairy farm three miles from the alfalfa field where the festival was stage was shaken by the ordeal. “We had thousands of cars all over our fields,” he said. “There were kids all over the place, They made a human cesspool of our property and drove through the cornfields. There’s not a fence left on the place. They just tore them up and used them for firewood.”
The New York Times 20 August 1969.

Read the code of conduct.
That is expected of our service men.
I did not say he was a traitor.
Article I
I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.
Article II
I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist.
Article III
If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and to aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.
Article IV
If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way.
Article V
When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause.
Article VI
I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

You mean if I smoke this it was as if I went to College?
That is right a college degree stuffed with absolutely nothing

Mr. MB4. Why not focus on Hilary’s divine journey of “hope” and “goodies distribution” , and leave conservatives to decide on what motivates them?
I hope to god that I don’t live long enough to see a majority of people like you, who just sit around, “hoping”, for someone like Hilary to come along handing out “goodies”.
RMR on October 24, 2007 at 7:50 PM
It’s a great ad, but McCain still loses on immigration. By not voting today he lost any hope he had.
ctmom on October 24, 2007 at 8:26 PM
By a man’s finger-nails, by his coat-sleeve, by his boots, by his trouser-knees, by the callosities of his forefinger and thumb, by his expression, by his shirt-cuff - By each of these things a man’s calling is plainly revealed. That all united should fail to enlighten the competent inquirer in any case is almost inconceivable.

Failing to evade capture does not make you a hero
Refusing to be let go when because of your father’s influence, your enemies allow you to do so, DOES.
Rightwingsparkle on October 24, 2007 at 8:50 PM
There is no doubt that McCain is a true American hero.
CloneTrooper on October 24, 2007 at 9:21 PM
there i fixed it for you and it is wrong on so many different levels .
Mojack420 on October 24, 2007 at 9:31 PM
Funny how he keeps looking better and better as he slips farther and farther from realistically staying in the race. John is a great man. And a true American hero. This also makes one ponder on the current frontrunners. A few too many of the frontrunners.
Griz on October 24, 2007 at 9:34 PM
Not hero, but I would say this establishes him as a man of good character.
TheSitRep on October 24, 2007 at 9:39 PM
Outstanding. THAT is how we should be attacking, with some ‘nads.
LtE126 on October 25, 2007 at 9:18 AM
Considering the humor of his comment I have no problem with what he said, even though I wouldn’t vote for him.
That’s what seems to distinguish you from the rest of us…humor. That and your irrelevant Holmes quotes.
Miss_Anthrope on October 25, 2007 at 10:02 AM
Good humor ad, but MB4 is right. Just attacking the opponents will only get you 45%-48% of the vote. That’s what the dems did in 2004 and the reps did in 2006.
Kerry had movies, comedians, celebrities, etc on his side. All the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t get Kerry elected.
Rush was saying people would come out in droves to the polls because they didn’t want to see Speaker Pelosi. Rofl. Maybe if you are a college Republican, but not if you are some soccer mom who worries about taxes, spending, and illegals.
chris00nj on October 25, 2007 at 10:19 AM
But the dems focus on something reps don’t: non-voters. Young, welfare, etc.
That’s where they’ve failed nationally. So doom & gloom all you want, but we need to keep our message on focus here: stick to our points, use humor, and remain strong on the issues.
That’s my point here.
Miss_Anthrope on October 25, 2007 at 10:28 AM
And attacking Hitlery does work…for people who are swing voters. They’re centrists by nature, and the more she’s exposed as the Communist she is, the better. N’est ce-pas?
Miss_Anthrope on October 25, 2007 at 10:30 AM
I’d love to go to a Woodstock Museum.
If you’re going to have museums, they should include stuff that ordinary people can relate to.
Also - like it or not - Woodstock was an American cultural landmark. And no, I haven’t been taking the brown acid.
uptight on October 25, 2007 at 10:37 AM
Woodstock was the final party I was able to attend prior to departing the next month to Vietnam and other places in Southeast Asia for the next 3 years. The only thing worth remembering about the event is the muses.
I am with Sen. McCain and only when he was released and kissed U.S. soil was I able to remove his POW/MIA bracelet.
Proud to have learned more in the military (USAF retired) than any of the Woodstock loonies learned about the value of human life and that protecting is a more worthy attribute than protesting it.
MSGTAS on October 25, 2007 at 3:49 PM
Thank you–I was just about to say that. Shame on you, Sitrep; obviously you don’t know jack about the military or about what it’s like for prisoners of war, especially in extreme circumstances such as McCain’s was. Leave the military talk to the adults. Dick.
I’d say worse about your comments, but I’ll keep it civil here.
