If Huckabee wants to make up stories about the founding fathers, why not go the whole nine yards?

Robot Chicken RULES!!!!

Yakko77 on October 24, 2007 at 10:34 AM

Haha.

Spirit of 1776 on October 24, 2007 at 10:35 AM

Robot Chicken is hit-or-miss for me. And I don’t really understand what their implication is about 300. Are they saying Thermopylae was a myth?

MadisonConservative on October 24, 2007 at 10:35 AM

The Polar Bear was the best.

Oh, and, that’s pretty much how I always envisioned it went down.

nailinmyeye on October 24, 2007 at 10:36 AM

I hope they do a whole show on that. I would pay to see the American Revolution 300-ized.

I loved 300, but outside of the main characters and the end result, the rest was utterly made up.

Krydor on October 24, 2007 at 10:45 AM

I second that, nailinmyeye. The entire minute was good, but the polar bear getting socked was what nearly made me spit out my coffee.

Wineaholic on October 24, 2007 at 10:45 AM

IT’S ALL TRUE!!!

JayHaw Phrenzie on October 24, 2007 at 10:54 AM

HAAaaa! That was great! “THIS IS AMERICA!” Funniest part was how the English were black hahaha! 300 is awesome, but it is just a little bit um, how should we say, exaggerated? A black Persian? He must’ve been from a conquered tribe somewhere, and as always in the movies, the first one to die. And you guya are right, the polar bear was hilarious!

Tony737 on October 24, 2007 at 10:55 AM

Better than rambo AP!!

Viper1 on October 24, 2007 at 10:58 AM

MadisonConservative on October 24, 2007 at 10:35 AM

they’re saying that giant cycloptic ogres and whatnot are a myth. cmon you didnt think EVERYTHING in 300 was legit did you?

ernesto on October 24, 2007 at 10:59 AM

To paraphrase another graphic novel People shouldn’t get their history from comic books, comic books should get their history from people.

BohicaTwentyTwo on October 24, 2007 at 11:05 AM

MadisonConservative on October 24, 2007 at 10:35 AM

They’re goofing on the excesses of the movie 300, its funny.

Bad Candy on October 24, 2007 at 11:11 AM

MadisonConservative on October 24, 2007 at 10:35 AM

The framework of 300 was true, but let’s just say there were a few creative liberties. And this was hilarious. I’d love to see a full episode.

BadgerHawk on October 24, 2007 at 11:13 AM

I just watched that last night and meant to try and find that on YouTube. That would be an awesome movie!

frankj on October 24, 2007 at 11:14 AM

What was wrong, historically speaking, with 300? Spartan armour, for one thing. The Athenians asked the Spartans for help, and they were originally turned down. The Spartan political system consisted of two elected Kings, one would stay home and the other would lead the troops in battle, so that intrigue on the home front, all of it, was a work of fiction. There were closer to 1,000 actual warriors at the last stand, with 300 of them being Spartans. Spartan society functioned entirely on slave labour, so that stuff about freedom was, well, garbage.

That’s just off the top of my head.

Krydor on October 24, 2007 at 11:22 AM

The movie is told from the Point of View of the only survivor, the one-eyed Bard. As such, it intentionally employs all kinds of mythic structure and hyperbole, because from his POV (and probably the POV of the other soldiers), the way he described events was exactly how he saw them. (Sort of how we ourselves tend to use hyperbole and exaggeration when talking of our own less epic exploits in day-to-day life.)

Mindcrime on October 24, 2007 at 11:25 AM

Mindcrime, just like when men exaggerate the hotness of the women they’ve had, the size of the fish they’ve caught and number of fights they’ve won.

LOL. Yeah :)

Mindcrime on October 24, 2007 at 11:25 AM

And, truth be told, the “one-eyed bard,” telling it from his perspective, could only really give us half the story.

nailinmyeye on October 24, 2007 at 11:46 AM

They would’ve nailed 300, if only they’d shown the rolls of fat jiggling on their “six packs”. I wonder if Martha Washington brags about how American women never surrenders then surrenders herself to Benidict Arnold?

Ah 300, the two hour movie that feels like twelve. Make it enjoyable by going to http://www.rifftrax.com today!

srhoades on October 24, 2007 at 11:55 AM

It aint accurate, but it’ll blow your ****ing MIND!

LMAO!

Defector01 on October 24, 2007 at 12:13 PM

For those who liked 300 or are interested in the Battle of Thermoplolie (sp) please read Gates of Fire by Stephen Pressfield. Now that book will blow your pho-king mind.

GREENTURTLE on October 24, 2007 at 12:39 PM

The book 1776 is an excellent read. I’d love to see it made into a movie. We came so close to the whole Revolution falling apart. The battle of Brooklyn/Long Island was no Thermopylae. Of course, I know it will never happen as American troops don’t rape anyone.

BohicaTwentyTwo on October 24, 2007 at 12:41 PM

Game over, man.

calbear on October 24, 2007 at 1:12 PM

“…this video is no longer available”

georgej on October 24, 2007 at 1:18 PM

Pulled.

Kahuna on October 24, 2007 at 1:21 PM

I think comedy central has it all backwards. They act like no one will watch the show because they can catch a clip on youtube but how many never even heard of the show until they saw one of these youtube clips?

Kahuna on October 24, 2007 at 1:22 PM

I think Philadelphia would be a better hell than Virginia, but that’s just me………

Agreed

Robot Chicken Rules, seconded!

Kini on October 24, 2007 at 1:47 PM

This is pretty good, but I liked it when it was called “The Patriot” and had Riggs hacking up dudes with a tomahawk.

ScottMcC on October 24, 2007 at 1:49 PM

The Brits looked like Oompa Loompas to me. Green face, white hair? You be the judge.

shooten on October 24, 2007 at 1:54 PM

As VDH pointed out, 300 was a glorious mythology of actual events, exactly the sort of idealization that the Greeks themselves practiced in storytelling.

TallDave on October 24, 2007 at 3:19 PM

Funniest part was how the English were black hahaha!

Tony737 on October 24, 2007 at 10:55 AM

Check your monitor dude. That’s dark green.

I ordered that book yesterday. Looking forward to it.

RC’s hit or miss. I’m more of a Metalocalypse/Venture Bros. kind of guy m’self.

ZK on October 24, 2007 at 6:40 PM

Betsy Ross is channeling the Gods with her fun bags hanging out partially obscured by smoke? I never imagined that, but I gotta admit, that’s kinda kewl.

csdeven on October 24, 2007 at 6:56 PM

What was wrong, historically speaking, with 300? Spartan armour, for one thing.

Krydor on October 24, 2007 at 11:22 AM

You know, whenever I hear the words Spartan Armor, I always think of the MJOLNIR Mark V Combat Armor worn by the SPARTAN-II Super Soldiers of the HALO story-verse.

But yes, the movie did take some severe liberties by ignoring the Naval Battle, the Athenean Army’s ground Support, and the fact that the Spartans were the only troops on earth at the time strong enough to wear what may have been the heaviest combat armor of the period….

to put them in loincloths… How we went from Bronze-covered-colossi at the head of an army to 300 guys in loin-cloths… only frank miller knows for sure.

Jones Zemkophill on October 24, 2007 at 7:38 PM

300 got people fired up enough to read what really happened so it did more good for historical education then anything out of Hollywood for the last 3 decades.

For example, test screenings of “The Kingdom” drew too much applause for the American’s ‘winning’ scenes and appropriate edits were made.

Frankly… we need more Team Americas.
