Last post I saw from you at LGF you got a call from your nephew and you were getting on an evacuation bus.

Were you allowed to return to your home?

You say true. My prescription is an equal balance of work, play, and rest. It takes discipline, boundaries, and teaching people how to treat you in order to be happy.

By discipline, I mean, taking recreation and rest as seriously as work, especially if it goes against your instincts.

<blockquote>Who was it that said “if you do what you love for a living, you’ll never work a day in your life”?</blockquote>

There's much truth in that but if you do it for 16-17 hours a day, it will eventually catch up with you. Imagine spending 16 hours a day at an amusement park, five days a week. You'd get a little weary of the roller coaster periodically.

Oh rats, I turned in right before you posted your comment so I didn't see it until this morning. We sat up last night looking at maps and agonizing for you. It's a relief that your animals are in good hands. What a horrible trauma for your guest to experience the day after she arrived in country. I hope she wasn't alone. You're going to have a tough damn week, know that I love you like a sister and will have anything you need from us.

God gives all things to industry. Then plough deep, while sluggards sleep, and you shall have corn to sell and to keep

Sloth, like rust, consumes faster than labor wears, while the used key is always bright

dost thou love life, then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of

the sleeping fox catches no poultry, and that there will be sleeping enough in the grave

lost time is never found again, and what we call time-enough, always proves little enough

he that riseth late, must trot all day, and shall scarce overtake his business at night

early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise

Industry need not wish

he that hath a trade hath an estate, and he that hath a calling hath an office of profit and honor

diligence is the mother of good luck

<i>Ironically enough, each party's perception of the other side as ruthless and girded for battle is leading them in the direction of settling on flawed candidates. Republicans may quite possibly crack the coalition that has served as the foundation of the party by nominating a pro-choice candidate for the first time since the pro-life plank was put in the party platform.

And Democrats, who continue to have the political wind at their back, are going to risk their best chance at winning the White House on a candidate with the highest unfavorable ratings of any candidate in recent history, and one whose baggage continues to spill out onto the front pages of newspapers with alarming frequency.

RushBaby, we're evacuated and several homes in the neighborhood did burn, along with eucalyptus woods. I'm on a business trip for the week, the animals are one with evacuated neighbors and the the dogs are with friends. Family is safe, guest from Europe is in total shock. All are ok though and I'm trying to concentrate on difficult work week. Just think the good thoughts and we'll catch up when I return home.

Dorian and all other San Diegans, don't be stubborn and follow evacuation orders. Lives and own safety, and that of families and pets should be all that matter, nada mas. I'm thinkin of all of you.

OT

<blockquote>He (Fred) addressed the same issue at Sunday night's Republican debate in Orlando, answering a question about whether he is lazy. Thompson described his trajectory from teenage father to factory worker to federal prosecutor to Watergate counsel and senator, saying, "If a man can do all that and be lazy, I recommend it to everybody."</blockquote>

The ants are swarming another fundamental American virtue: Hard Work. You see, if you're an achiever, you're harming yourself, your family, and society. Much better to emulate the French way. What are they clocking these days, a six-hour work week with a month paid vacation? Well, that is so much more <em>enlightened</em>, you see.

doriangrey, PatrickS, and others in the vicinity of wildfires: my most fervent well-wishes and concern for your safety. If the worst happens just say the word, and I pledge my family's help on your behalf.

I had no withdrawals symptoms. But, maybe recovering from a heart attack covered the withdrawal symptome.
