No mention of any iPhones.
Kini on October 22, 2007 at 10:26 PM
Fortunately I recognized and broke that habit long ago. :|
PatrickS on October 22, 2007 at 10:27 PM
What if you literally live in your office?
Allahpundit on October 22, 2007 at 10:31 PM
Thank God I don’t suffer from that!
AP- I’m pretty sure you are a borderline case…:)
Pam on October 22, 2007 at 10:41 PM
AP, you should have used the back half of that quote “we may also think that ‘the person most willing to be connected 24/7′” and claimed you could achieve that if only you had an iPhone…..
PatrickS on October 22, 2007 at 10:47 PM
AP, if you’re referring to the act of blogging in one’s bedroom while wearing pajamas, I don’t know if that contingency is represented in this study.
On a more serious note, I’m not sure that this issue can really be analyzed objectively, simply because the lines are blurring so much.
My cousin, for instance, lives in the greater-Chicago area, and figures she spends about 45-55 hours a week, typically, doing work-related activities. She maybe spends about 48-72 hours per month actually at the office. The rest is spent “telecommuting.” It’s an emerging trend, and quite frankly, I’m not sure how healthy it is for our over-stressed and increasingly-productive workforce.

Most workaholics are either perfectionists, have a need for control or a have combination of both traits, said Gayle Porter…
That was me. It isn’t a sickness, it’s a priority issue. Thank God I got it out of my system before I had kids. 100+ hours a week isn’t healthy.
windbag on October 22, 2007 at 10:50 PM
As long as you have access to a quart of Jack Daniels and a bedside gun rack, I’d say you’re living large my friend.
And I’m jealous
Kini on October 22, 2007 at 10:50 PM
Yup, I mostly work out of the home too, I start working when the dog gets me up, 4-5 AM and I might still be doing things come 11PM.
bbz123 on October 22, 2007 at 10:51 PM
I should add that if you could continue to blog while in the shower, then you’re really la vita loca
Kini on October 22, 2007 at 10:53 PM
Well her I sit, still encircled in flames. I have been posting a bit over at LGF about the situation. Somebody please remember me and my family in their prayers. It is a bit disconcerting to be in the middle of a wildfire.
doriangrey on October 22, 2007 at 10:56 PM
Borderline?
Allahpundit on October 22, 2007 at 11:01 PM
How little some people know you…
doriangrey on October 22, 2007 at 11:02 PM
I know the feeling, my friend….I’m one mile from Cal State San Marcos….
PatrickS on October 22, 2007 at 11:02 PM
Aren’t workaholics usually hard-chargin’ alpha-males?
see-dubya on October 22, 2007 at 11:02 PM
I’m not afraid of work, I can lay down and go to sleep beside it any time.
JimK on October 22, 2007 at 11:02 PM
Doriangrey–
Done. Good luck and stay safe.
see-dubya on October 22, 2007 at 11:03 PM
No. Alphas have better things to do.
Allahpundit on October 22, 2007 at 11:04 PM
Or they have high maintenance wifes.
MB4 on October 22, 2007 at 11:06 PM
So, you’re a beta blogging workaholic male
Kini on October 22, 2007 at 11:07 PM
I had no withdrawals symptoms. But, maybe recovering from a heart attack covered the withdrawal symptome.
Helloyawl on October 22, 2007 at 11:07 PM
Wow…Stay safe. In 1990 I lived right across the street from CSUSM, while it was still a chicken farm. They were just starting to do the ground work. So yea I know the area, be careful and stay safe.
doriangrey on October 22, 2007 at 11:15 PM
Thanks….got the F-150, Sport Trac and Escape SUV loaded and ready to roll if things get any toastier. You do likewise.
PatrickS on October 22, 2007 at 11:21 PM
doriangrey,
Just said a prayer for you and those in the line of that fire.
GoodBoy on October 22, 2007 at 11:23 PM
The ants are swarming another fundamental American virtue: Hard Work. You see, if you’re an achiever, you’re harming yourself, your family, and society. Much better to emulate the French way. What are they clocking these days, a six-hour work week with a month paid vacation? Well, that is so much more enlightened, you see.
doriangrey, PatrickS, and others in the vicinity of wildfires: my most fervent well-wishes and concern for your safety. If the worst happens just say the word, and I pledge my family’s help on your behalf.
RushBaby on October 22, 2007 at 11:36 PM
Bless your big heart, sir…
PatrickS on October 22, 2007 at 11:41 PM
What PatrickS said.
doriangrey on October 22, 2007 at 11:48 PM
Oh and on a personal note I must confess to being a little disappointed that Allahpundit hasnt dedicated a special thread to us HotAir people trapped in this fire. But oh well I guess he has bigger fish to fry…
doriangrey on October 22, 2007 at 11:50 PM
iPhones don’t have ‘enterprise’ email support yet. I figure once they do they’ll take some marketshare from BlackBerry, Microsoft and Palm.
liquidflorian on October 22, 2007 at 11:51 PM
Another way for psycologists to make money by calling a non-disease a disease.
Rode Werk on October 23, 2007 at 1:09 AM
A Lizard posted a link to this blog that is documenting the California fires.
If this doesn’t mess up your entire October, you don’t have a heart.
RushBaby on October 23, 2007 at 1:37 AM
RushBaby, we’re evacuated and several homes in the neighborhood did burn, along with eucalyptus woods. I’m on a business trip for the week, the animals are one with evacuated neighbors and the the dogs are with friends. Family is safe, guest from Europe is in total shock. All are ok though and I’m trying to concentrate on difficult work week. Just think the good thoughts and we’ll catch up when I return home.
Dorian and all other San Diegans, don’t be stubborn and follow evacuation orders. Lives and own safety, and that of families and pets should be all that matter, nada mas. I’m thinkin of all of you.

Ironically enough, each party’s perception of the other side as ruthless and girded for battle is leading them in the direction of settling on flawed candidates. Republicans may quite possibly crack the coalition that has served as the foundation of the party by nominating a pro-choice candidate for the first time since the pro-life plank was put in the party platform.
And Democrats, who continue to have the political wind at their back, are going to risk their best chance at winning the White House on a candidate with the highest unfavorable ratings of any candidate in recent history, and one whose baggage continues to spill out onto the front pages of newspapers with alarming frequency.

what is this workaholic disease and where can i get it? that, like polio, is a disease i think i can use to my benefit
cougfan on October 23, 2007 at 4:05 AM
Find a second job outside your home and get some rest. :)
Texas Nick 77 on October 23, 2007 at 4:54 AM
Ditto from me too. Y’all stay safe.

God gives all things to industry. Then plough deep, while sluggards sleep, and you shall have corn to sell and to keep
Sloth, like rust, consumes faster than labor wears, while the used key is always bright
dost thou love life, then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of
the sleeping fox catches no poultry, and that there will be sleeping enough in the grave
lost time is never found again, and what we call time-enough, always proves little enough
he that riseth late, must trot all day, and shall scarce overtake his business at night
early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise
Industry need not wish
he that hath a trade hath an estate, and he that hath a calling hath an office of profit and honor
diligence is the mother of good luck

Forget iPhone. AP’s really jonesing for Windows 7.
Coronagold on October 23, 2007 at 7:16 AM
Oh rats, I turned in right before you posted your comment so I didn’t see it until this morning. We sat up last night looking at maps and agonizing for you. It’s a relief that your animals are in good hands. What a horrible trauma for your guest to experience the day after she arrived in country. I hope she wasn’t alone. You’re going to have a tough damn week, know that I love you like a sister and will have anything you need from us.
RushBaby on October 23, 2007 at 9:04 AM
You’re thinking about this all wrong, AP. Who was it that said “if you do what you love for a living, you’ll never work a day in your life”?
Jaibones on October 23, 2007 at 9:46 AM
There’s much truth in that but if you do it for 16-17 hours a day, it will eventually catch up with you. Imagine spending 16 hours a day at an amusement park, five days a week. You’d get a little weary of the roller coaster periodically.
Allahpundit on October 23, 2007 at 11:15 AM
You say true. My prescription is an equal balance of work, play, and rest. It takes discipline, boundaries, and teaching people how to treat you in order to be happy.
By discipline, I mean, taking recreation and rest as seriously as work, especially if it goes against your instincts.
RushBaby on October 23, 2007 at 11:31 AM
Last post I saw from you at LGF you got a call from your nephew and you were getting on an evacuation bus.
Were you allowed to return to your home?
