I just finished watching Mark Bowden’s Stalking Jihad on the History Channel. You may remember Bowden as the author of Black Hawk Down. Stalking Jihad covers the US-Philippine war against Abu Sayyaf, which is al Qaeda’s branch in the Philippines. It covers the rescue of American missionary Gracia Burnham, who along with her husband Martin was taken hostage by Abu Sayyaf in 2001, and follows past that to the defeat of Abu Sayyaf’s commander in 2002. Stalking Jihad does a great job of laying out the realities of the rules and difficulties of anti-terror operations involving alliances between US intelligence services and indigenous militaries. It will air again Sunday afternoon at 1 pm. If you have the time, Stalking Jihad is two hours very well spent.

Luckily I saw this and since I’m on the West Coast I can still watch it regardless.
CTDeLude on October 20, 2007 at 10:28 PM
Oh, and it will be repeating, EST, again tonight at midnight.
JetBoy on October 20, 2007 at 10:29 PM
Damn, I missed it, I got to my hotel room when there was only 5 minutes left of it. They’ve been advertising it for weeks. Another good show on History Channel is called “Shootout”. They do Iraq and Afghanistan all the time. Good stuff.

Bill Rogio is running a series on al-Qaeda in the Philippines here:

FNC just finished airing the PBS documentary that PBS refused to air, called Islam v. Islamists. That was good stuff.
rslancer14 on October 20, 2007 at 10:35 PM
The documentary that just aired on FNC is supposed to re-air at 3pm Sunday.

It’s always rewarding to watch videos of Muslim terrorists exploding prematurely. We cut out the middle man for suicide bombers so they can just die without victims.
Military.com always has some entertaining videos on hand.

History Channels documentries are already on youtube!

I just watched Fox’s Islam vs Islamists –Faith vs Fanatics too. I found it so interesting that the 1.5 hours flew by. Much of the historical perspective involving the Saudis was unknown to me and shocking. I see above that it will air again on Sunday. It’s worth watching.

Excellent program. God bless Gracia Burnham, one tough lady.

You watch these things and in the midst of the brutality of it all you know vengeance is the Lords, but I really want to tear these animals limb from limb so they might get a taste of what they dish out.

Speaking of the Phillippines, via Blackfive:
To raise them up. Part 1: The lesser and greater insurgencies of the Philippines
To raise them up. Part 2: The role of the Philippines in the Long War
To raise them up. Part 3: Investing in people

That documentary also did a great job at revealing how politics among the different branches of military, different departments of the gov’t can mess things up, and how our own laws restricted us from giving them info that could have ended the ordeal a lot sooner.
El Guapo on October 21, 2007 at 1:36 AM
By the way, anyone catch Fox News’ special with ED Hill “Inside Islam: Faith vs Fanatics”? It was even more amazing. The Clinton admin apparently blew off warnings about bin Laden from a moderate cleric living in America who addressed the State Dept about the dangers of UBL’s suicidal army.
El Guapo on October 21, 2007 at 1:41 AM
It was excellent. I was surprised that my hubby who rarely watches any non-fiction watched. Matter of fact, he was the one who clued me in that it was on. Hope everyone got to see it.
Connie on October 21, 2007 at 1:44 AM
Ill do that right after I get the 5k for being a baby born in the USA from Hilldabeast. That was retroactive right?
I was born in the USA and I was once a baby a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away
Mojack420 on October 21, 2007 at 2:03 AM
Yep, caught that one too, very good program. Between the History Channel’s Stalking Jihad (which of course I watched) and FoxNews Islam v. Islamists/Inside Islam: Faith vs Fanatics tonight was a very informative night. I hope a lot of my fellow Americans watched one or the other or better yet both.

I caught the show on the History Channel and was fuming at the restrictions that the Left has put on our capabilities. That rag tag group of murderers could have been stepped on like the cockroaches that they are a lot earlier than they were.
Jeff on October 21, 2007 at 4:15 AM
Thanks for the heads up
Viper1 on October 21, 2007 at 7:19 AM
One thing that came out of the show was just towards the end and pointed out these terrorists are at heart basically just serial killers and islum gives them a reason and right to kill
jed58 on October 21, 2007 at 8:48 AM
First airing opposite Game 6 of the ALCS and then opposite the 6-0 Patriots vs. the 0-6 Dolphins game. I guess it’s about time I got a Tivo.

Darn! I missed it!
The show on FOX was outstanding! The brave people it profiled brought me to tears.
Particularly galling tho was (of course!) the State Dept footage of the Imam warning us to “WAKE UP” in 1999!!
The “Stalking Jihad” on today is about OBL. Is that the same as last nite?
labwrs on October 21, 2007 at 11:52 AM
I’m seeing “Targeted” on the History Channel at 1:00pm. “Stalking Jihad” isn’t showing up in a title search.
MrC_5150 on October 21, 2007 at 12:19 PM
Same here. Also searched – not on at all
taterblade on October 21, 2007 at 1:01 PM
I saw it last night, and was impressed overall. The Philippine Army doesn’t come out looking so great.
Mark Bowden — also author of “Guests of the Ayatollah” and “Killing Pablo” — has emerged as the most formidable contemporary historian of U.S. espionage and special operations.

Google Video Stalking Jihad 9 minute segments…looks like all of it.
