Video: Colossal tool eats crap over Rush letter on Senate floor

posted at 4:05 pm on October 19, 2007 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | regular view

It’s been up at Drudge for the past few hours so I don’t need to link it.

But I want to link it.

Said Rush of this pathetic, virtuoso exercise in milquetoast jackassery:

“Now he has the audacity to climb aboard this, praising the effort, saying he never knew it would get this kind of money,” Limbaugh said.

Directing his comments to Reid, Limbaugh said, “It wasn’t your letter that raised this money. It was your abuse of power that is responsible for raising this money.”

Quite so. If that’s not enough, the Neocon News site claims to have obtained a statement from the Eugene B. Casey Foundation, where winning bidder Betty Casey serves as a trustee. Take this with a grain of salt because it’s almost too good to be true:

The Eugene B. Casey Foundation believes freedom of speech is a basic right of every citizen of this country. The purchase of the smear letter was to demonstrate their belief in this right and to support Rush Limbaugh, his views, and his continued education of us.

Don’t ever change, Dingy. Click the image to watch.

I don’t know why anyone would be surprised. Reid simply did what comes natural to Democrats — take credit for someone else’s work and pat themselves on the back for doing it.

GT on October 19, 2007 at 4:12 PM

Cripes…Anyone really suprised?

And Harry….who’s the “we” you’re referring to? What an ass.

Reid: “Don’t PWN me, Rush!”

RushBaby on October 19, 2007 at 4:14 PM

Is it friggin possible for this guy to be this stupid? No really. If not, is he that demented that he thinks this is anything but a colossal embarrassment? Is he able to feel embarrassment? ugh

Sugar Land on October 19, 2007 at 4:14 PM

I like how he advised everyone else to donate to MCLEF, but has yet to meet Rush’s challenge to the signatories of the newly dubbed “Declaration of Incompetence” to match the winning bid.

Liberals are so generous with everyone else’s money.

By the way, I actually saw Harry smile once on TV! Yes, I could hardly believe it myself. It looked like it actually caused him physical pain. Joyless pinhead.

CurtZHP on October 19, 2007 at 4:15 PM

Maybe it’s just the way I was raised, but I couldn’t do that with a straight face!

pb5000 on October 19, 2007 at 4:15 PM

I read the transcript, but I hadn’t watched the video…ugh! I love how he doesn’t even mention that Rush is matching the donor, and he is so taking credit for it, you can tell he tries to hide that, but he can’t help himself.

Bad Candy on October 19, 2007 at 4:16 PM

The Eugene B. Casey Foundation believes freedom of speech is a basic right of every citizen of this country. The purchase of the smear letter was to demonstrate their belief in this right and to support Rush Limbaugh, his views, and his continued education of us.

Rush did mention that Betty Casey has been a listener and supporter since his show’s inception.

Bad Candy on October 19, 2007 at 4:17 PM

Oh, also cool:

Rush now says that he will sign copies of the 4 page letter for $1000 donations to the the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation after a caller suggested the idea. Specifics still being developed, but he doesn’t want to put a limit on how many people can get a copy.

amerpundit on October 19, 2007 at 4:17 PM

Tase him, bro!

Hmmm…that could be the next auction.

saint kansas on October 19, 2007 at 4:18 PM

This guy is so far outside the tenets of his church I have a hard time believing he can sit in his recommend interview and answer the questions with a straight face.

csdeven on October 19, 2007 at 4:19 PM

Oh yeah….funny too how HArry failed to mention that Rush is matching the winning bid….thereby doubling that 2+ million dollars.

JetBoy on October 19, 2007 at 4:20 PM

Where to start…where to start…

My respect for the people that voted Reid in will really drop a notch if he gets another term.

I give up. I just can’t top “colossal shamless tool” in terms appropriate to a publicly-accessible blog.

An apology would be nice Reid. Then we can talk about differences.

Kini on October 19, 2007 at 4:22 PM

Watching it was so much better than hearing it! Can’t wait to see what BO’s body language expert has to say about it.

Reid was quiet on this all week. I think he spent the whole week trying to find a legal way to stop Rush from auctioning off this letter and when he couldn’t his only alternative was to act as if he was part of the plan all along.

What a dork.

ctmom on October 19, 2007 at 4:25 PM

What a piece of crap Dingy Harry is, along with the other 40 jack@sses who signed this “support our troops” letter.
Why didn’t Dingy Harry, since he wanted to attach himself to this so badly, announce his matching contribution? or the names of other defeatocrats who were going to match?

Nice to see conservatives contributing to causes such as MCLEF and other patriotic organizations that actually do help our soldiers and help America.

Meanwhile, leftist, “I-hate-America” types contribute to groups such as Media Matters, MoveOn.stupid, the ACLU and any other organization attacking America.

Yeah, I question their patriotism!

Reid looked very uncomfortable making this speech. I wonder how the MSM will report this. Will they note his discomfort? Call him brave for trying to make bridges with the “right-wing extremist”? Or note that he was forced to eat crow?

Douchebag.

omnipotent on October 19, 2007 at 4:34 PM

That is the most unbelievable thing I have ever seen. RUSH IS MATCHING FUNDS Harry! What are you ‘doing’?

I truly do not know where this guy came from. I can’t believe he is taking credit for ‘doing something good’.

He says ‘it’s a good thing when WE can get together to promote good causes. . . ‘

WE doesn’t include YOU Harry. Harry YOU did nothing but act like an idiot. I am still in disbelief that this guy is supposed to be a ‘leader’. Our Republic is in trouble.

ThackerAgency on October 19, 2007 at 4:34 PM

Reid lies and blatantly lies when he says that “we didn’t have time or we could have gotten every Democratic senator to sign that letter.” The senators who didn’t sign were not a random sample of Democratic senators. There were either blue dogs or extreme ACLU types who weren’t interested in the letter.

Perhaps, Senator Kohl doesn’t fit into either category of non-signing Senator, but the others do & I suspect that Kohl’s not signing was out of respect for free speech, and not because Reid didn’t have time to get to him. I did call Kohl’s office to ask this question, but the staffer was unwilling to speculate about Kohl’s logic and claimed that Kohl doesn’t issue statement about what he doesn’t do. Fair enough.

thuja on October 19, 2007 at 4:36 PM

Yet another humiliation of the Democrats in Congress. The only thing they have been good at for the last year is losing and looking stupid.

ThackerAgency on October 19, 2007 at 4:34 PM

As Rush has been saying from the start, what he actually did was one of the worst abuses of power and his position ever seen in the Senate.

So he didn’t have time to round up the other morons in his party. He certainly has had time all week to try get them to match the funds.

He still has time to do it whenever they want, yet I doubt a single one of them will make any kind of contribution let alone a match.

Reid’s letter sells for over 2 million and he is sitting on the senate floor praising himself as a major contributor to a good cause?

No mention of Limbaugh’s match?

This “man” Reid, and I use that term loosely, is utterly devoid of ethical or moral principles. A living, breathing example of the plague of liberalism.

He’s a shoe-in for re-election.

You have to admit it, though, Reid has a a pair of BIG SHINY BRASS ones on him to get up there and weasel in on the credit.

As the immortal Kent Dorfman said “Oh boy … this is gggreeaattt!!!”

thirteen28 on October 19, 2007 at 4:53 PM

You know for all the days of the auction he and his advisors struggled with how he should respond to Rush. He had to something to mitigate the damage.

I know some folks will find what he did repugnant but true lefties will see him as magnanimous.

However all fair minded will know he is truly a fool of the highest order.

Shameless!

TheSitRep on October 19, 2007 at 4:54 PM

This is the most incredible piece of snakery I have ever witnessed. Will any Republican get up and set the record straight, or will the Senate record reflect Reid’s conniving? Will anyone point out the to A-hole Reid that Rush is matching the bid and that he’s called on the 41 Senators to do the same if they were able?

Reid can’t be let off the hook for this one.

Drum on October 19, 2007 at 4:56 PM

When Mrs. Casey comes to hand over the quandage, the press will inevitably cover it. they have to, now.

i would LOVE to see her say on camera that she is asking for each of the Senator’s who signed this chilling piece of rat dung to make a similar contribution to the cause.

and she should read alound, on camera, the names of every Senator who signed the letter. Every. Single. One.

this way, the Dems will be treed like a toad: they’ll have to pony up or be shamed after syaing “no i will not contribute to the Corps.”

also, my bet is that this is the last time we’ll see a stunt like this pulled by the Dems against Rush.

Mike D. on October 19, 2007 at 4:56 PM

I do not know Harry Reid. Harry Reid is not a friend of mine.

Harry Reid? You, sir, are a scumbag.

A translucent living shade, indeed.

Harpazo on October 19, 2007 at 4:59 PM

Even NOW they do not go to Rush’s site. Everyone is encouraged to download this letter, and donate even a buck or two to the charity. He isn’t even aware of that! Rush made sure everyone knew that the Senators wasted taxpayer time on this lunacy, and made clear we have ALL already pay for it. We can have a copy for free or to donate.

It’s even better than that — if they don’t pony up, then they will have let their politics stop them from doing something “For the Children”. There are few petards with which to hoist aging hippie Democrats more sacred than that of The Children.

Harpazo on October 19, 2007 at 5:09 PM

As I said in the other topic, he was not eating crow.

This was an attempt to steal the event away. Rush pointed out that he was using “we” all throughout the speech in an attempt to inflate his role in this event from an abuser of power to the generator of millions for charity.

But even more so than the “we” he was trying to steal credit for the amount of the final bid. He wanted to be able to claim that it was his speech that made the letter sell for XXX amount.

This fact was obvious due to the line about it is guaranteed to go higher in price, and his call for people to bid on the item.

Luckily the bidders were smart and stayed away from any bids and the high bid from BEFORE Ried spoke on the floor was the winning bid.

Pure, 100% scum bag.

I still find it difficult to comprehend that this ‘colossal tool’ (heh, great choice of words) is The Senate Majority Leader.

That’s way f’ed up.

Pathetic Harry, standing their alone in the senate chamber, weaseling his way through a lamebrain, cockamamy response to his beatdown by El Rushbo.

Why not on the Capital steps Dingy? Why not surrounded by the 41 other senators who supported your fraudulent accusations and outright lies? Not with you anymore, huh?

Rush pitched a perfect game, and this tool steps up for the post-game interview and says, “He never could have done it without my whole team’s participation”.

Deceitful Dork.

Let me take this opportunity to say something positive about Harry Reid:

Harry Reid is a credit to his crazy, left-wing, dingbat constituents, his party and their nutty causes. Way to go Harry!

I wanted to end this week on a positive note about ol’ Harry and, by golly, I did it!

Keep up the good work Harry and by 2008, you will land us another Republican as President. Hopefully Fred, if you keep lying at this rate.

PB

Planet Boulder on October 19, 2007 at 5:17 PM

Many terrible words escaped my mouth while I was watching dirty Harry try to take credit for this good thing Rush is 100% responsible for. I noticed Reid never mentioned that Rush not only raised over two-million dollars for this great cause but that Rush is matching that eBay sale price, thus over four million dollars will go to the charity all because of Rush Limbaugh’s generosity. Reid just couldn’t bring himself to give credit where credit was due.

You and your DemocRATS had nothing to do with it Reid.

Maxx on October 19, 2007 at 5:25 PM

ABC News has given Democrats all the credit for this letter:

Hey Harry

Like the song says “You don’t tug on Superman’s Cape”

Especially by doing it with a false smear from Media Matters that you had to know was a smear from the git go.

You showed by a$$ for all to see and nobody is buying it.

You owe Rush an apology and need to if anything jump on the attack dogs over at Media Matters who are STILL saying Rush smeared the troops.

Even you have to know how absurd that case you are trying to make is.

CommentGuy on October 19, 2007 at 5:36 PM

For all the asshattery from Reid over the years, this was the cheesiest stunt evuh!

Via Rush in a Hurry:

Outrage: Harry Reid took to the floor of the Senate and tried to horn in on the credit for this brilliant refutation of his smear, as if he’d meant his letter to help raise money for MC-LEF all along. Translation: “You win, Rush.” Reid made no mention of Rush’s matching contribution, nor did he say if any of the 41 Democrat signatories will match the bid as Rush has called on them to do.

The Drive-By Media has ignored the story of the Harry Reid smear letter. But while the US Senate using the full force of the government to shut up a private citizen is of no interest to them, guess what still is? Valerie Plame’s stupid book. It’s more evidence that liberals must lie to succeed.

JammieWearingFool on October 19, 2007 at 5:36 PM

Gee amazing how all the left side of the world is claiming the Right smeared the Frost family and such, but the LA Times and Wall Street Journal can be plowing the earth over the Hsu donations and you don’t hear a peep.

CommentGuy on October 19, 2007 at 5:39 PM

In further evidence of just how big their bass ones are many of the left side blogs are demanding an apology from the Republicans to Pete Stark over his comments on the floor of the House during the SCHIP debate.

CommentGuy on October 19, 2007 at 5:43 PM

Love all the commentary on the left wing today with all the assertions that Michael B Mukasey will be a disaster for the left even WORSE than the dreaded Gonzales.

You can’t make this stuff up.

CommentGuy on October 19, 2007 at 5:48 PM

Sample from the HuffPo crowd

To borrow a phrase, there is still time for the Democrats in Congress to be relevant. There are still two actions that could demonstrate intestinal fortitude and leadership. The most urgent is the confirmation of a new Attorney General Based on Congressional testimony to date. Judge Michael B. Mukasey is more dangerous to American democracy than was Alberto Gonzales. First, he is smarter – not a high hurdle – and more cagey than Gonzales. He can put together a coherent if terse answer. But his positions are frightening. When Gonzales was nominated, the key issues (torture, wiretapping, enforcing Congressional subpoenas, etc) were mostly theoretical. But now the issues are urgent and it appears that Judge Mukasey will support the same positions as Gonzales including that the President can ignore Congressional legislation.

Check on the Reuters account.

Limbaugh, in his posting on eBay, did not appear conciliatory with Reid, who is referred to as “Dingy Harry.” On his radio show shortly after bidding closed, he identified Casey as the winner.

Casey is with the Eugene B. Casey Foundation, which said in a statement it bought the “smear letter” to demonstrate its belief in free speech and support of Limbaugh.

Limbaugh said he was matching Casey’s bid by contributing another $2.1 million to the foundation, and urged Reid and other Democrats who signed the letter to do the same.

Reid spokesman Jim Manley declined comment on Limbaugh’s challenge, but said: “Senator Reid is happy something good came from Rush’s outrageous comments.”

What a schmuck.

Matthews manages to outrace his contradictory statements by blustering so many excitable things so fast and so often that pinning down the discrepancies is like trying to grab a gust of wind by the tail. He isn’t a cynical dissembler. He seems to suffer from some pundit variant of short-term memory loss. Each day on earth erases the days before. More wackiness from the left you just can’t make up

This from the DownwithTyranny blog (gee how moderate of you)

Headlined
HOW MANY DEMOCRATS WILL VOTE TO SUPPORT BUSH’S LATEST KKK NOMINEE TO THE JUDICIAL BRANCH NEXT WEEK?

While the Democratic Senate Establishment gets ready to make common cause with the Bush Regime in invoking cloture of Chris Dodd’s promise to filibuster the further erosion of our constitutional rights in terms of the fascistic FISA bill crafted by Regime hacks and bribe-happy Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), some treacherous Democrats are also lining up with GOP extremists to push forward Bush’s latest radical right judicial nominee, Leslie Southwick.

Senate Republicans have assumed they would need to round up a filibuster-proof supermajority of 60 votes to win confirmation for Southwick. It’s unclear whether Southwick’s supporters have done so. A spokesman for Reid declined to say whether Democrats would filibuster the nomination. A Senate Republican aide said there is no agreement on a time limit for debating the nomination.

When you are done please loosen the screws on the tin foil tightening mechanism slowly guys…remember the mess you made in the kitchen last time around.

After a hi-colonic this liberal will be buried in a shoe box.

Speakup on October 19, 2007 at 4:39 PM

That’s all that will be left, Speakup? I almost swallowed my tongue, laughing at that.

You’re welcome, the truth can be sooo much fun.
I understand that with a little fresh garlic, crow isn’t half bad.
It’s the bitter after taste that gets you.

“WE” think you’re a shameless Piece Of Sh*t, Harry!

And I really do mean We – as in me & mine!

Ps. Go To Hell, and take your Party Of Parasites with you!

Stay with me a minute there HA kids, I’m not too good at all that “rithmeticen” and stuff, but my green friendy solar powered calculator tells me that: $2,100,100.00 ÷ 41 Dhemocrats =$51,221.95 each.

If they really had the “Hillarys” they would all kick in and match that final bid. (for the good of the children don’t you know).

What do you think would be the chance of that?

Has rush said anything along the lines of ‘dang, I didn’t expect to pay that much’?

Dingy is engaged in the new direction of the liberal dems mindset.

This gotcha moment he is trying to manufacture is a result of two things.

1) Moral relativity. The libs believe that there is no absolute truths.
2) That belief results in the belief that copying a thing is as valid as the thing itself.

Rush has the valid gotcha moment and Dingy thinks by copying Rush’s actions that he will get his own gotcha on Rush. Now there certainly are fools who are ignorant enough to believe Dingy got him, but most of them believe Rush’s gotcha was only a gotcha in Rush’s mind and therefore their own fake gotcha is as real. This is because they are projecting their own psychologically dysfunctional thinking onto others.

Liberalism is a psychological disorder. These people have a disconnect in their makeup that leads them to a way of thinking that rejects reality.

Somebody mentioned this on the show today,, theft of intellectual property. I am wondering if Mr Reid has crossed another line taking credit on the floor of the Senate for another private citizens idea for charity. Pure slime ball but ever so amusing to watch!. The Congress is becoming like a carnival. What a joke!

Pocket change to Rush. Beside the fact that he’s proud to do it.
