I’m glad that something positive has come out of the Catholic Church, but let us not forget that the Catholic Church has been a consistent enabler of Islamic evil for the last fifty years or so. For instance, Europe’s insane immigration policy come straight from the moral pronouncements of the Catholic Church.

The open borders policy of Europe was enabled by the secular radicals of the EU who want to leave out any reference to God in their Constitution and create a secular paradise on earth. They get awfully snotty when the Catholic Church makes any suggestions. Immigration is a way for them to import outside voters who follow the line as long as they are bribed with government largess.

As for the Palestinians, you’ll recall that up to a few years ago 25% of their population was made up of Christians. They has dwindled due to the rise of Islam. Consequently the Catholic church is increasingly challenging Islam.

In our Maronite Catholic Mass, you hear the word “Allah” a lot. It means God in Aramaic and Arabic (some of the Mass is said in Aramaic, the language of Christ). There were Catholics churches 700 years before the mo showed up.

As for the letter from the muslims, Bryan had a word for it… what was it??? Oh yes, chutzpah!

That the Catholic Church is concerned about Palestinians (esp Christians there) is not something to loathe, if i may say so. The fact that these people are trodden down is reason enough. You can be Pro-israel as it were,(or at least recognize their right to defend themselves from terrorist) and at the same time be concerened about those Palestinians who have not part in these horrible acts. To be totally one sided on the issue strikes me as foolish….

I agree with this.

Remember, both of them lived through the Nazi persecutions, and JPII did a tremendous amount of healing, effectively reconciling the Church with Jews around the world. He even extended his hand towards Islam, which got him shot. But he showed off Catholicism when he went to prison and forgave his would-be assassin.

Benedict is simply following Papa’s footprints, but now with an invigorated line. He knows how hard it is to be Pope, and he knows he’s old, so he’s doing everything he can in the meantime.

Benedict is a scholar, as well. Don’t think he’s going to cosy up to the Wahabbists.

This is utter nonsense. with no shred of evidence. The Catholic Church does not control or dictated the immigration policy of any Country in the Last 50yrs. Heck the Vatican could not even so much as muster enough support to Kill a referendum on that made abortion more readily available in Italy. While I appreciate this story from the Vatican, it wasn’t from the Pope. I especially appreciate that it promotes Christianity and attacks a religion that is oppressing Christianity. All in all a good thing and high time.

And my personal favorite the Pope APOLOGIZING for the Crusades (Christians around the world will never live long enough to stop hearing that one from muslims). There is nothing to apologize for in a defensive war.

More recently, the Pope praying in a mosque in Turkey probably wasn’t the best idea. . . unless you consider the ‘tit for tat’ of muslims wanting to turn an ancient Catholic Cathedral into a mosque in Spain a ‘good thing’.

I appreciate the sentiment of this story. I hope the Vatican continues to focus its condemnation on NON-CHRISTIAN entities that are oppressing Christians and they’ll get no complaints from this Protestant Christian.
