Report: Reid urges people to bid on Rush’s letter? Update: And the winner is…

Well, I take it back, then: if this is true then Reid obviously feels he’s lost enough face that he has to pretend now that he’s “in on the joke.” Was anyone watching C-SPAN this morning and can confirm K-Lo’s report?
I’ve got to step away for a few hours but it’s worth tuning in to Rush and listening as bidding approaches the finish line. The auction ends at 1 p.m.; I’m hoping against hope that he’ll reveal the name of the winner, mainly so that we can all start begging him or her for a few thou in seed money for the righty blogosphere. Feel free to treat this as an open thread. And if you hear something clipworthy, let us know. We’re recording.
With 23 minutes to go, the bidding stands at $2,100,100.
Update: The bids plus Rush’s match topped $4 million. Video of the winning moment is on the way.
Update: Here it is.

21 minutes to go!
RushBaby on October 19, 2007 at 12:38 PM
I think it’s an attempt to pull the same kind of reversal that Limbaugh did on him. But it’s a little late…it probably took the mental midgets in the ‘focus groups’ who advise him that long to come up with the idea.
James on October 19, 2007 at 12:41 PM
I admit it–I’m the high bidder at the moment. Sold a few shares of Haliburton stock.

Reid is a liar and a rat. He is a weasel. He is a dishonest person. Lies and deception are the tools of evil, and he is repeatedly, willingly and blatantly lying. Harry Reid is a bad person.
ZRyan on October 19, 2007 at 12:43 PM
Dear lord. Reid is a putz!
Sue on October 19, 2007 at 12:44 PM
It’s the smartest thing Reid could do at this point.
BadgerHawk on October 19, 2007 at 12:44 PM
What a hoot. No way to put a good face on this.
I noticed he didn’t take Rush up on the challenge for the signing senators to match the money!! :-)!!
INC on October 19, 2007 at 12:44 PM
Now I KNOW Reid is livid about the auction. He’s wanting to help the troops. While he’s on the air today, Rush should ask Reid to deliver the letter personally.
GoodBoy on October 19, 2007 at 12:45 PM
Holy shite… Reid is actually trying to act like they were in on the act. This is insane.
Editor on October 19, 2007 at 12:46 PM
Rush is playing the Dingy Harry comments on the floor now.
Reid is trying to trying to take credit – what a maroon.
BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
“I encourage anyone with the means to do so to bid on this”
Any dhimmicrat, that is. Oh, he desperately wants that letter
back. Soros, where are you?
So, what happens if an identifiable liberal wins the auction?
Timothy S. Carlson on October 19, 2007 at 12:46 PM
Gawd, Reid has no shame.None.Bupkiss.Nada.

TheSitRep on October 19, 2007 at 12:47 PM
Rush is ripping Reid a new one right now on the air.
pullingmyhairout on October 19, 2007 at 12:47 PM
It wouldn’t be as good as someone genuinely forking over 2 mil for it, but it would still be fine. The charity still gets 4 million, and it might actually look worse for Reid if some liberal group tried to bury this for him.
BadgerHawk on October 19, 2007 at 12:48 PM
One of Rush’s callers suggested the letter be named “The Declaration of Incompetence”.
I think that fits.
Mike Honcho on October 19, 2007 at 12:48 PM
I think the word “unbelievable” is used way too much, thus diluting the meaning.
This, THIS is unbelievable. Dingy Harry’s balls have their own gravitational pull they are so big.
Wow.
Darksean on October 19, 2007 at 12:48 PM
Unbelievable to me that in this country, a government official who signed a letter, in his capacity as a government official, which sought to censure and silence what should be the protected speech of a private citizen, is now encouraging people to bid on that same letter, preserving for future generations a shameful story starring Mr. Reid. The man has no pride whatsoever.
reine.de.tout on October 19, 2007 at 12:48 PM
This is Reid’s only way to save face in light of a $2 million bid. He’s trying to avoid disaster, but alas, he’s too late. he he he he he he
Rush rocks.
pullingmyhairout on October 19, 2007 at 12:49 PM
Dang. Someone just out-bid me. I can’t afford to go over 2.1 mil. I bet it was that weasley Rosie O’Donell.
robblefarian on October 19, 2007 at 12:49 PM
This is a lose/lose situation for the dhimmicrats.
Now Reid is resorting to attacking Rush for his deferment.
Not that any of Rush’s support of the troops means anything.
Way to go Harry – you and Pelosi are a class act — NOT.
Timothy S. Carlson on October 19, 2007 at 12:50 PM
I wonder if the winner will utilize this option on the auction:
The rewards should be many at that price.
tree hugging sister on October 19, 2007 at 12:51 PM
Yeah, if isn’t Hill and Bill who win.
Dusty on October 19, 2007 at 12:51 PM
Don’t confuse ‘balls’ for ’scared sh*tless’.
Harry is playing CYA – there are no balls required for that.

Reid doesn’t even mention that Rush is MATCHING the bid. Reid is such a coward.
FireFly on October 19, 2007 at 12:52 PM
On Wednesday, Rush said:
Reid is scrambling to play defense to Rush’s offense on Reid’s false premise.
Rush should do workshops for the GOP leadership!
INC on October 19, 2007 at 12:52 PM
Again, words words words, but where are Harry’s deeds? Rush is matching the bid and Harry just talks lies. He is a despicable human being.
Wade on October 19, 2007 at 12:52 PM
Rush has already said that the winner will be announced.
Heh :D
Timothy S. Carlson on October 19, 2007 at 12:52 PM
If you look lower on the page, there’s a statement about payment on this letter:
INC on October 19, 2007 at 12:54 PM
Harry Reid: Blow me.
You are a *&$*ing embarrassment. To the Senate, to America, to all who walk upright.
WTF? First of all, Media Matters took all of us for idiots when they thought THIS was the quote that would finally bring down Rush Limbaugh. Of course Reid et al took the bait and then tried to resell it to us (and pressure Clear Channel, and push for the “Fairness Doctrine”).
NOW we’re to believe Reid knew his letter would be put to good use?
I can’t put into words how insulting this is. When Rush was talking about “phony soldiers,” HE WAS TALKING ABOUT PHONY SOLDIERS. Period.
Just shut up.
saint kansas on October 19, 2007 at 12:54 PM
A-friggin-men. THIS is how you do it.
saint kansas on October 19, 2007 at 12:55 PM
From the transcript, Reid 1) attempts to share credit for this, and the amount of money raised, as if he and Rush did it together, and 2) makes absolutely no mention of the fact that Rush is going to match the winning bid –
So he can praise the money raised by a letter signed by him and “his friends” that was meant to silence Rush and was based on a complete lie, but he cannot muster any good words for Rush who will match this amount of money from his own pocket.
Predictable.
nailinmyeye on October 19, 2007 at 12:55 PM
Dingy said he was in on it from the start. Words can’t describe these Democrats.

‘Reid didn’t mention that Rush is matching the bid.’
Of course not – that would require Reid to acknowledge that Rush has principles, and he doesn’t.
I think we have a good shot at this election folks. Between
the ‘campaign fund raising’ idiocy of Hillary! and the total ineptness of the dhimmicrats in congress, the American people are seeing the true colors of the left.
Mayhaps losing the majorities in the house/senate in ‘06 wasn’t such a bad thing. Americans can see how much bullsh*t the left is spewing before it really means anything.

Reid has no other choice, but to lie more on what is happening. He is being humiliated as he should be. The Reid land deal was covered in detail by the Las Vegas newspaper and yet Reid gets a pass from the MSM. The articles about the Reid sweetheart land deals should be linked everywhere.
