The film that was just too hot for PBS finally gets national airtime.

A controversial film that PBS axed from its documentary series about the post-Sept. 11 world will be broadcast for the first time nationwide this week by the FOX News Channel.

The documentary, originally titled “Islam vs. Islamists,” was produced by ABG Films with $675,000 in public funds from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. It was originally slated to run earlier this year as part of PBS’ “America at a Crossroads” series.

The film follows moderate Muslims who have challenged the “Islamists” who espouse a more radical view of their religion. The film shows the Islamists advocating, among other things, the imposition of Sharia law on Muslims in the West, the stoning of women who commit adultery, and even violence and terrorism.

“Islam vs. Islamists” will be seen in its entirety as part of an all-new FOX News Channel special. The 90-minute FOX program, called “Inside Islam: Faith vs. Fanatics,” includes interviews with “Islam vs. Islamists” director and producer Martyn Burke and executive producer Frank Gaffney. It will be broadcast at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The film has had a wild ride inside PBS. We interviewed producer Frank Gaffney about PBS’ attempts to stifle the film back in May. Fox aired a companion film, “Muslims against Jihad,” back in June. Oregon public TV made a deal with PBS to make the film available to stations that wanted it, and several dozen have aired it but this weekend’s run marks the first time that “Islam vs Islamists” will run nationally, and in several of the country’s largest TV markets.

Update: Along the same lines, Robert Spencer writes about persecution within Islam today.

It was my PBS station last week and I just watched it last night. They felt it was so “controversial” that it had to be accompanied by a panel discussion over its content, moderated by John Hockenberry, and complete with a CAIR representative who looked like the world’s only metrosexual muslim.

The documentary was great, but I turned off the panel discussion when Hockenberry said that the NYT had just come out with an editorial saying we need to pull out of Iraq, and used that to claim that “mainstream America” is now opposed to the war.

This is great. I believe that it will take reformation within the Muslim community for the west to ultimately win the war on terror. I’m looking forward to this and good luck to those in it who are taking a stand.

If Fox handles it the way they have other specials on radical Islamists, always hosted by ED Hill it seems, it will be a big dissapointment. She spends too much time chit chatting with the producers and they hack the movie up into 5 minute segments which destroys the whole flow.
I am glad they are doing it but I am afraid it will fizzle because of their presentation.

Good for Fox if they handle it right. Hope I get to see it.

Good for Fox. Another reason for the left to hate Fox.

I hope Fox airs this program opposite CNN’s latest piece of crap schedued to air next week – “Planet in Peril”.

Ooooooh, so scary CNN. Just in time for Haloween.

Trick not Treat.

It only shows up as “Special Programing” on my programming guide as an hour show. Are they editing for time?

Saw it on PBS (40 minutes followed by the better part of 2 hours with Islamoterorist apologists). Must see TV. Also, the DVD will be out in January

Amen….EB Hill or whoever needs to keep their mouths shut and let us see the entire special without interruption.

PBS should be told to support itself and then go down in flames. One-sided news and propaganda supported by tax dollars.

Its difficult to escape or deny the truth, of course you can pretend it doesnt exist… but in the end…

Good for Fox!

I’m not sure why people have been pushing this so much. Islam is Islam. Do you really think so-called “moderate” Islam is less dangerous? Not violent, perhaps, but still a manipulative cancer that seeks total control of everyone and everything.

Please, please, please… Please give me a list of 5 moderate Muslims. Please stop using this term “moderate Islam” or “moderate Muslim”. There is no such thing.

From Robert’s article:

That jihad in Darfur features Muslims targeting Muslims. Such episodes, whether in Somalia, Darfur, or anywhere else, emphasize the need for peaceful Muslims to stand up strongly, in deed as well as word, against global jihadist violence. The sword of takfir ought to cut both ways, with peaceful Muslims willing to distinguish themselves from their bloody-minded coreligionists, and to repudiate their murders not just of fellow Muslims but of non-Muslims also.

I just don’t see it happening. Islam has become so much more politicized and its goal remains the same whether violent or “peaceful” jihad.

If the movie helps in some way, then good. But I still do not want to see Islam in this country without major reform.

There are…noncomittal muslims who are the equivalent of “moderate” muslims. Most of these are overseas, and poor, so we don’t ever meet them, nor do they ever make a peep. But they exist. In large numbers.
