Video: Rush Limbaugh on Reid’s letter, Media Matters, and the left’s “phony soldiers” smear

It’s red meat for breakfast! No sacred leftist cow goes unslaughtered; Steve Doocy, bless his heart, even finds a way to drag Gen. Sanchez’s speech into it. Your takeaway line: “If Media Matters went out of business, MSNBC primetime would have to go dark.” Which isn’t precisely true — scan the latest well sourced recap at Olby Watch and you’ll see that our favorite bottom-feeder also relies heavily on Think Progress, an offshoot of another project started by a Clintonite. But it’s true enough.
The clip is in two parts. The bidding, meanwhile, currently stands at a shade over $50,000.
Update: Following their leftist instincts, DU is trying to get the auction shut down.

…they used his mug shot?
MadisonConservative on October 16, 2007 at 9:42 AM
saw it live…they gave him plenty of uninterupted time to say whatever he wanted. Fox knows where the ratings come from.

Rush, in his decency, found a way for 41 senators to redeem themselves and escape the taint of their colossal error: He invited them to match the amount of the final bid, and donate it to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.
Rush epitomized class and good cheer during this whole episode. I maintain a slender ray of hope that the senators will take the hand he has offered them, and demonstrate convincingly that they do, in fact, support the troops.
RushBaby on October 16, 2007 at 9:54 AM
Rush’s eBay auction is abso-f*c&ing-brilliant: Karl Rove’s thinking, “Damn, he’s good!”
I only wish any of the GOP candidates were a fraction as astute or clever. Maybe one of their campaign managers could rent the half of Rush’s brain tied behind his back just to make it fair.
saint kansas on October 16, 2007 at 9:54 AM
I wish I was wealthy enough to bid on this letter.
jp on October 16, 2007 at 9:55 AM
Remember the skits on Fox where Rush was president?
…anyone else think that’s a hell of a good idea?
MadisonConservative on October 16, 2007 at 9:56 AM
same here jp, would love to own this.
 and :salute: Rush, we need more like him.
trailortrash on October 16, 2007 at 9:57 AM
Rush gave the OK yesterday. Just download the letter from the PDF and use a color printer. Of course, I took the initiative last Friday.
Sure, it’s not the original, but I don’t have 50K lying around.
JammieWearingFool on October 16, 2007 at 9:58 AM
Rush is for the troops?
Whoda thunk it?
profitsbeard on October 16, 2007 at 9:58 AM
I can’t imagine one of these senators walking back from this, not an inch. Went too far, they will stubbornly insist that their lie is the truth.
I’d bet a paycheck on it.
Auctioning off the letter is pretty funny.

He has addressed this, says he really doesn’t want the paycut.
bbz123 on October 16, 2007 at 10:00 AM
Nah, the leftists won’t back an inch from this. They’re trapped, looking like fools, in their own lie and can’t even really gripe about the money going to support the troops.
Buzzy on October 16, 2007 at 10:03 AM
The historical significance is a reminder of what this failed Democratic leadership. Their bills get vetoed and their threats get auctioned!
Pam on October 16, 2007 at 10:03 AM
IIRC, he said if he won the Nobel prize, he would run! Good thing he loves what he’s doing — and is too humble — to covet the prize or the office. We’ve got him exactly where he’s needed the most.
RushBaby on October 16, 2007 at 10:05 AM
How true. An audience as large as his has got to have an impact on the political scene.
jdawg on October 16, 2007 at 10:07 AM
Great line!
Weight of Glory on October 16, 2007 at 10:08 AM
Will this become a part of the democratic platform to write signed letters to employers of people they dislike? I will say one thing good about all this and that is they are not legislating the business of the country and that is a good thing. They less they do the better off we are.
Wade on October 16, 2007 at 10:08 AM
Of course Rush is almost never wrong, but he missed it big time when he said Hillary wouldn’t run for Senate because she knew she couldn’t win.
Oh God was he wrong.
saint kansas on October 16, 2007 at 10:12 AM
I thought the bidding process on EBay was a brilliant idea, along with turning over the money to the Marine charity. It made a mockery of Harry Reid and his fellow traitors in the senate.
Giving them an opening to redeem themselves by matching the funds, was a mistake in my humble opinion. They will take that opportunity and run with it, use it, point out that they too support our troops, while we all know quite the opposite is true. Then the MSM will chime in and run endless reports on the Dems handing over checks. Big mistake.
There’s an old saying in the law profession. If you don’t know the answer to a question, don’t ask it. In this case, if you don’t know whether the Senate Donks will come up with a donation or not, don’t test them.
Wait and see. The Donks are just waiting to jump on this to prove their allegiance to our troops. Bah!
fogw on October 16, 2007 at 10:14 AM
I seriously doubt the Dems will match, or donate anything. They won’t breathe a word of this anymore, and it will go away by the end of the week anyway.
Darksean on October 16, 2007 at 10:19 AM
Would that be so wrong? They’re the ones always clamoring for “bipartisanship” and “reaching across the aisle”. But worry not, they won’t be sending any checks. Their idea of “supporting the troops” is bringing them home in humiliating defeat, not helping their kids get scholarships.
RushBaby on October 16, 2007 at 10:22 AM
Of course, since they are insincere.
fogw on October 16, 2007 at 10:37 AM
It’s a grand coup. I worry that they’ll really be after him now though. The Dem pols have to much mis-placed ego to let bygones be bygones.

OT: Air America talk show host Randi Rhodes was assaulted outside her Manhattan apartment last night. A blogger that covers liberal talk radio is speculating that a right winger attacker Ms. Rhodes.

Bizarre. Legislators writing a letter to the employer of someone who is giving speeches they don’t like. Legislators who hold means to put some level of hurt on the employer’s business. Is this Racketeering?
These fools actually signed the letter.
The letter is priceless as are the comment tags in the DU link above. This letter should go to the Smithsonian because it will be the part of any honest history book.
The day we had signed proof that a segment of America had slid from Republic to Empire
entagor on October 16, 2007 at 11:35 AM
I like how the poster over at DU takes offense to Rush calling Reig “Dingy” immediately after he refers to Rush as “Limpballs”.
BadgerHawk on October 16, 2007 at 11:46 AM
Where they are is bad for our country. I want them to turn around and become, if not friendly opponents, at least responsible opponents.
RushBaby on October 16, 2007 at 11:54 AM
What does that have to do with this?
Wade on October 16, 2007 at 12:02 PM
If the Dems bought that letter back it would be big news again, and Rush would be ready to further humiliate them in hilarious ways that the whole country would hear about. I wish they would, but I doubt it.
They always exceed my expectations for stupidity, though.
NellE on October 16, 2007 at 12:16 PM
The comments at DU are interesting. There’s a minority frantically trying to drag the lemmings back from the cliff; pointing out that this is hypocritical.
I particularly loved the comment that “If what Rush is doing is hate speech, 90% of what DU is saying is hate speech.” Ya think?
Anyway, good on Rush.
Vanceone on October 16, 2007 at 12:23 PM
THANKS FOR THE DU LINK.THEY ARE ON THE VERGE OF COMMITTING MASS SUICIDE OVER THERE.
THIS IS TOO DELICIOUS. GO RUSH!!!
RMR on October 16, 2007 at 12:57 PM
I’m not a fan of Rush’s at all but this is pretty funny. Also the DU reactions are priceless. They know their side has been pwned.
Benaiah on October 16, 2007 at 1:04 PM
Read some of the DU’s comments.
This is priceless!

What the DU nuts, in their froth and fury, don’t realize is that to report an inappropriate item on ebay (their tactic to “shut down” the auction) they must be registered and logged in to their ebay accounts. That means ebay has a record of everyone who is abusing their reporting system.
A record, moonbats. Files. Archives. Your data is in the big machine, available to the NSA, FBI, even the NID. Ph3ar!!!1!
Hannibal Smith on October 16, 2007 at 1:41 PM
That DU thread was hilarious. I especially liked where some of those pinheads decided in their fevered imaginations that the Combined Federal Campaign, which the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation is a part of, was just a front for the RNC. And that’s in spite of the fact that some of the tiny minority of sane posters tried to explain the CFC to them.
This whole auction is some serious excellence on Rush’s part. (Excellence In Bidding, perhaps?)
ReubenJCogburn on October 16, 2007 at 2:24 PM
DU “Why ebay’s allowing it is beyond my comprehension.”
Heh, only liberal things can now be sold on e-bay :) I always knew that only them s/b allowed to speak freely. Now I know everything about how things ought to work.
Says it all.
Colmes said last night that he’s bidding to win, so that he can turn the proceeds over to the ACLU – there are brains, I tell you…
Entelechy on October 16, 2007 at 2:27 PM
I noticed that Feingold did not sign Reid’s letter. You have to respect him somewhat–even when you disagree with him. In fact, we should give a little bit of credit to the other eight Dems who did not sign.
On the other hand, I noticed that both Hilary and Obama did sign the letter. It will be fun asking ACLU people if they trust Hilary and Obama to pick Supreme Court judges?
thuja on October 16, 2007 at 2:33 PM
Amazing how the left is so soft on crime, and yet, when one of them is mugged, they want to blame conservatives. do they not see the damage being done by the welfare and entitlement programs that they so strongly support.
striper1 on October 16, 2007 at 2:45 PM
It seems good for centrist and rightist Americans to find prudent means to punish the DU’s leaders and attorneys for such attempts to obstruct free exercise of speech and press rights.
Kralizec on October 16, 2007 at 5:30 PM
Entelechy – someone needs to tell Skeletor that if he wins, he just gets the papers and the case – he doesn’t get to control how the proceeds are spent.
You know, you buy something, you pay money, the money is then OWNED by the person you paid it to.
I know this is a hard concept for a liberal to understand, it will require patience to get it across.
Merovign on October 16, 2007 at 8:24 PM
A reading of the DU comments was interesting. They are truely unhinged.
