Video: 10/15 Truth

Drew Carey’s first day on “The Price Is Right” — and all six contestants win their games?

Fire doesn’t melt steel, my friends, just like two separate contestants don’t roll $1.00 on the big wheel on the same day.

Blowback

Carey seemed a little nervous, but I think he’s a great fit. Bob Barker was a fighter pilot, Carey a former Marine. I like how they’re keeping the conspiracy in a neatly wrapped military package.

John from OPFOR on October 16, 2007 at 6:38 PM

It’s actually happened before – 2 people spinning for a 1.00 I’ve seen it. I think today was definitely rigged though, to get press attention for his appearance.

lorien1973 on October 16, 2007 at 6:39 PM

I’m not sure why, but I followed that link – where I learned that someone actually liveblogged The Price Is Right. That’s just strange. There has to be something in the DSM IV to cover that.

Laura on October 16, 2007 at 6:45 PM

Meanwhile in the real world…Oh, that’s right. I’d have to go to a real news site for that. This must be one of those mid-afternoon palate cleansers.

Hey, Andy? Don’t come back, okay?

Eat crap Big Ro… it was never your job anyways!! Ha!

Don’t worry AP, I live near Agoura, I’ll go kick down his door in the dead of night with our super secret ninja fighting force, and yes, I’ll take names, I WILL take names. :)

Califemme on October 16, 2007 at 6:51 PM

The whole show could have been edited to have this appearance, too.
On another note, how many of those people who won prizes will be able to pay the taxes on the 1099s they get for their winnings.

bbz123 on October 16, 2007 at 6:54 PM

I wonder when Ron Paul will come out and speak against this. He was probably watching it live.

Wineaholic on October 16, 2007 at 6:59 PM

I like Drew Carey but its like he seems mechanical and no genuine happiness for the winners. Barker is a tough act to follow…i give Carey 1 year.

malkinmania on October 16, 2007 at 7:00 PM

AP, for Andy’s sake, only post hard news…and, for goodness sake, don’t ever sleep. YOU OWE US!!!!

jdpaz on October 16, 2007 at 7:00 PM

Actually, there’s been 77 instances where all six contestants won on a single day…according to Wiki…

I’m not sure, but wasn’t there ever a show where all three finalists got a buck on the Big Wheel? meh…Drew Carey can’t be worse than whomever it was (I forget) that hosted the short-lived Price Is Right PM edition.

PS…I think Carey should have gone with a different mic tho…that long stick mic was kinda a Bob Barker trademark…

Heh. Call him a souless atheist and he gives you some sarcasm. Question his thread choices and he brings the pain. I love it.

BadgerHawk on October 16, 2007 at 7:18 PM

Just don’t question his atheism AND his thread choice at the same time. :P

CorinthianJest on October 16, 2007 at 7:22 PM

A guy I went to high school with won both showcases several years ago. I’ve always wanted to go on that show.

GoodBoy on October 16, 2007 at 7:24 PM

Drew talks to fast and calls the prizes ‘stuff’. He doesn’t have the voice and says ‘man’ too much. He talks to the contestants instead of to the studio and TV audience. He giggles too much and seems uncomfortable. How’s that for starters. I go back to Truth or Consequences with Bob so I would be critical of anyone. I thought they would’ve gone with a more game show experienced guy. But we gotta give Drew a chance, I suppose, to get better with time. We’ll see. Good luck to him.

I do so enjoy yanking your chain. Charles at LGF usually ignores this kind of stuff. You might wanna try his method.

Andy in Agoura Hills on October 16, 2007 at 7:31 PM

First it was Rosie, now it’s Drew. Why does the TPIR, after 30 years of classy Barker, now lean towards uncouth, fat slobs for MC? Perhaps lean is not a good choice of words.

jihadwatcher on October 16, 2007 at 7:39 PM

Drew is a funny guy and I like him, but warm and fuzzy he is not. And Bob let the contestant do the celebrating, so he wasn’t shouting all the time when someone won. I don’t know– maybe it is true that the good ones just make it look easy when really it isn’t. If I were Drew I think I would spend some time with Bob to find out his secrets– not to try and be Bob, but to use some of the same techniques. One final note– if you are going to use the same sign-off as Bob, try saying it the exact same way he did. And now back to the news……..

gajaw999 on October 16, 2007 at 7:48 PM

Classy? Didn’t the man have several sexual harassment suits during his stint being the “classy” MC?

As to the “fat slobs” remark, I’m guessing that either Carey or O’Donnell literally fit the demographic profile of the typical viewer of TPIR.

GHEEZ! Now you’ve got me overthinking daytime TV!

I blame the Joos. Yep, vast Zionist conspiracy to give people prizes…. Hmm, them evil Zionists ain’t what they used to be…

mjk on October 16, 2007 at 8:30 PM

Yeah, well a blogger on this very page went to highschool with a guy that won both showcases several years ago. He has always wanted to be on that show.

TheSitRep on October 16, 2007 at 8:51 PM

I blame Bush. (cause I was in doubt)

TPIR is just a backdoor method of taxation. Whats the tax on 40 grand of winnings?

BL@KBIRD on October 16, 2007 at 8:54 PM

Oh, that’s right. I’d have to go to a real news site for that.- Andy in Agoura Hills

Let me take this opportunity to share what I think this site is. This site is more than just news. It is a commentary on news, culture, matters of faith (and lack thereof ;-) and politics. It is run by 3 talented writers who are extremely honest, witty and graceful in what they post and in what they allow in their comments section. Appreciate it.

ulyses on October 16, 2007 at 8:58 PM

Okay, you did a TV spot and it was kinda lame. I would have think that you would have had the cat fight from the Spew on today. What’s up? No Rosie no Spew?

On-my-soap-box on October 16, 2007 at 9:09 PM

Reminds me of the time when, on Wheel of Fortune a few years ago, a certain segment of the population started crying complaining that they were’t winning. It was always the “other” segment of the population that was winning.
All of a sudden, the segment of population in question started winning…ALL the time. One person of this segment of population even guessed the phrase with only like, 2 letters. And it was a mulitple word phrase. Amazing.
I’ve always believed game shows are rigged. I mean, come on. Things that can be controlled like spinning wheels and hidden numbers. They’re rigged.

AteMyFoot on October 16, 2007 at 9:20 PM

WARNING: SOMEWHAT IRRELEVANT FOOTBALL REFERENCE

Drew Carey following Bob Barker on TPIR is like Ron Zook following Steve Spurrier at Florida.

He’ll be run out of town in three years.

HarryBalzac on October 16, 2007 at 9:36 PM

Drew will do fine. He’s a funny guy. Two $1.00 spins in one day?! I’ve seen that before too.

I’d rather go on a show that pays cash! That way, the Gov. gets their cut and you keep the rest. Win prizes, pay taxes!

Ordinary1 on October 16, 2007 at 10:10 PM

No one will ever replace Bob Barker, He is One of a kind.

Yeah, one of a kind misogynist whose thinly veiled contempt for the huddled masses shone through like a flashlight through cellophane.

that show ain’t been good since Anitra Vance got run off.

Jackie Broyles in 08, baby!

JazzBass on October 17, 2007 at 1:56 AM

There was that other show, the Power of Ten, where a contestant answered correctly and won everything the very first night. Wasn’t that Carey too?

mollo on October 17, 2007 at 2:08 AM

that show ain’t been good since Anitra Vance got run off.

JazzBass on October 17, 2007 at 1:56 AM

You would join Dennis Miller in that sentiment, bro. He seems to have committed her entire filmography to memory. Me? I was always a Jannice Pennington man hyperglandular middle schooler myself.

Captain Scarlet on October 17, 2007 at 8:34 AM

See, I told you. Drew Carey is the anti-Christ!

ericire12 on October 17, 2007 at 8:59 AM

That pic of Bob staring at the humongous hooties kinda distracted me.
