Spitzer needs a parachute

posted at 10:05 am on October 16, 2007 by Bryan

Cue up the Tom Petty music, because NY Gov Eliot Spitzer is free-fallin’.

The latest numbers are out on public support for Gov. Spitzer’s executive order allowing illegal aliens to ob tain New York state drivers’ licenses.

Read ‘em and weep, Eliot.

In a Siena College poll released yesterday, 72 percent of New Yorkers oppose the gov’s license plan – while only 22 percent support it.

Opposition to Spitzer’s plan runs across the board: Even 52 percent of his fellow Democrats think he’s wrong.

64% correctly think that Spitzer’s plan will create a hole in our national security. JammieWearingFool adds that the legislature looks like it’s ready to kill the plan.

Spitzer should have taken the Gray Davis lesson to heart.

Blowback

He should really be spending more time having state troopers investigate his political opponents.

The Gray Davis experience got us Arnold out here, and after the crap he signed last weekend I am not sure it was a better move.

Good. What a stupid plan in the first place.

nailinmyeye on October 16, 2007 at 10:15 AM

yea it was retarded. legal immigrants, who receive official social security numbers (with warnings for employers that they must check alien records before hiring them) have had no problem getting licenses, minus the yearly medical checks to keep their social valid. no social=you MUST be illegal=you can’t get insurance=YOU’RE DRIVING ILLEGALLY EVEN IF YOU DO HAVE A LICENSE!

spitzer, not only is it a dumb idea to give illegals licenses…even with the licenses they still dont have insurace!!! they’re still required by law to STAY OFF THE ROAD!

what a dunce

Thanks for the link, Bryan.

If Spitzer thinks he can keep strongarming people like this, he may not even last his first term. When the majority of your own party is bailing, it’s time to reassess and cut your losses.

Of course, he’s already got his Spitzer 2010 up and running.

He can always play the Bush Card and claim he can’t govern based on polling data.

Let’s hope it’s made in Taiwan

He’ll make a beautiful crater

I do not know the law in NY but in Michigan if you can lie enough to get a driver’s license you can get a voter registration too.

When you are filling out the final information for the license the worker holds a sheet of paper in front of you and says (as I watched) ‘check here to vote’. It is done as quickly and smoothly as a used car salesman saying ‘just sign here’. That check is the last step in the process before the clerk returns with the license. It is done without any offensive questioning about citizenship to the obviously hispanic majority clients in my almost no hispanic city.

They do not ask you to read the details or ask any offensive questions about citizenship

It eliminated the spotlight that would shine under the old system where you had to register to vote separately therefore eliminating the possibility that you registered to vote ‘by accident’

That’s nice and all, but isn’t it going to happen anyway?

The recall of Gray Davis in trade for Arnie was a good idea its just that in the last election we should have replaced Arnolilto with McClintock.

I don’t know, seems like a great idea to me. Gets rid of the wetbacks, sorry, undocumented Americans, from around here, they go to New York. They love illegals there, just ask Guiliani. They made NYC a sanctuary city, didn’t they? It’s insanity, or maybe just the beginning of the end of America that used to be. In the words of Vince Lombardi ‘ what the hell is going on out there’?

I think NY pols were smart enough not to include a recall provision in the state constitution. Crafty buggers.

I’m glad to say that I didn’t vote for that fool for governor. He shoulda stuck to being attorney general and investigating real stuff instead of doing hit jobs on his perceived enemies.

What a waste of time and taxpayer money.

He was a sh!tbag at that job too

Ochlan on October 16, 2007 at 4:32 PM

He made such an “ass” out of himself as A. general that I am still baffled how he got his present job. New Yorkers have some strange voting habits. Of course with senators Clinton and “big mouth” why should he be a surprise? He seems to fit right in.
