Right-wing conspiracy causes Randi Rhodes to fall while walking her dog

Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today.
Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.
“Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?” he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. “Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?”
A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan’s 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.
Rhodes’ lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog.
In defense of Elliott, bad-faith accusations come with the job at AAR: former host Mike Malloy was known to ruminate about the lingering questions surrounding 9/11 and Rhodes herself, when she’s not busy “joking” about Bush’s assassination, has a super-keen theory about how the bridge collapse this summer in Minneapolis was, as all bad things are and must be, a direct result of the wingnut war for oil. As my least favorite nutroots commentator is wont to say, this is who they are and this is what they do. So don’t act surprised when they do it. Thanks to Shawn Wasson for the tip.

What fries me is how quickly this story is going to diasppear from the MSM. Can you imagine what the hue and cry would be if someone like Hannity, or Levin had pulled a stunt like that? They would be calling for congressional hearings tomorrow on the editorial page of the NYT.
Gotta be right up there with “Don’t tase me, bro.” Speaking of bogus lefty accusations of right wing malfeasance, where are we holding on the noose at Columbia story? I’m a little concerned that I haven’t heard a presser from Sharpton on this. ‘Course, maybe he’s learned something from the Duke case?

What’s struck me about the initial story aired by Elliot is if it WERE true that she were mugged, how would anyone know that it was by conservatives? Did they say something to her about illegal immigration? Or the war? While they were throwing her to the ground to break her teeth, did they spout off about the GOP candidates foreign and domestic policies?
It’s just a little too vague for me to understand how the muggers were identified as right-wing conspirators.

Doesn’t anyone find it a wee bit suspicious that a prominent celebrity can just fall down in New York City, a city full of surveillance cameras, and it’s not caught on tape? And really, who just falls down and knocks out two of their own teeth? Experts say these kinds of accidents are impossible. Virtually all people who fall land intact. And Randi Rhodes doesn’t remember falling? Ladies and gentleman, the official story is simply full of holes.
This was a missile attack on Randi Rhodes, a missile launched by the evil Bushitler regime by Dick Cheney. That’s why the FBI has confiscated all the security tapes. Rhodes doesn’t remember anything because the CIA used memory gas on her to wipe her brain clean.

Tantor, after I posted about falling myself, I started thinking about it. I’ve stumbled around drunkenly before and fell. I’ve tripped over my Basset Hound when he’s gotten underfoot. I’m a 5′10″ woman, but I’ve never fallen hard enough to LOSE TEETH. AND my memory.
So whatever happened to her must have been way worse than the falls I’ve had.
I think that you must be right. Conspiracy.

I spent a little time cruising the blogs about this non-incident. It really is shocking to see how much venom is being spewn about. The whacky theorizing over this hasn’t abated at all, even in light of her own camp affirming that it was nothing more than a nasty slip. The crazy thing, imho, is that most people have never even heard Air America. Even if they have, it’s a radio personality we are talking about. I find it rather unlikely that most people would recognize her at all. So, somehow it makes sense that a republican street thug would mug her? I can’t begin to comprehend this. As if your garden variety mugger is vitally interested in politics. Besides, why would anyone on the right go after her? She’s so fringe-looney that she’s more useful to my side on air than off. Besides rabble-rousing with her own base, what impact does she have at all anyway?
I actually feel badly for her. That’s a crummy situation to be in. But, to the point, she was toothless before this happened.

Well, anyone can see this is Bush’s fault! After all, instead of fightening terrorism, he should be using the military to repave sidewalks so that people who walk their dogs won’t fall down.
BTW-Did Rhandi Rhoades make the suggestion that Bush should be assassinated? How come the entire Senate did not spend a full day condemning her, writing to Foul Air America to get her to appologize (or fired)? Oh, I forgot why…silly me.
