Good news: Victims give cadaverous shock jock green light to return

Is that how the Absolute Moral Authority game works now? Victims retain de facto veto power in perpetuity over their assailant’s career choices? That’s an even better deal than Fred Goldman got in garnishing O.J.’s wages after the civil suit.

Thankfully, the team has chosen to be gracious and forgiving. Which leads me, with cautious optimism, to believe they have not in fact been “scarred for life.”

Don Imus can do whatever he likes including return to the radio airwaves.

That’s the feeling of the Rutgers Women’s Basketball players, whom Imus branded with a racial comment last winter…

[W]hen I asked player Essence Carson, who speaks for the team, if she minded Imus’ return, the tall beauty responded with aplomb.

“We never asked for his resignation in the first place,” she said. “He can do whatever he wants to.”

Would she consider being a guest on Imus’ new show, set for Citadel Broadcasting’s WABC in New York? Carson, no fool, just shook her head. She had more important things to think about.

Later I asked [coach C. Vivian] Stringer the same questions, but the famed coach just sort of whisked the air with her hand. A man she identified as director of sports for Rutgers said, “It’s all in the past.”

Exit question which we’re all already thinking anyway: Where does this leave Reverend Al?

Where does this leave Reverend Al?

Outclassed, as usual.

“He can do whatever he wants to.”

Um…?

That’s not the moral of the story I picked out.

A Black Racist

No, just a Racist. You are either a racist or not, color is irrelevent.

“We never asked for his resignation in the first place,” she said.

Too bad for his old boss, who didn’t get the memo.

Rev?? Al? Is left with a BIG target on his back!

iam7545 on October 16, 2007 at 12:38 PM

I noticed Skeletor offering a staunch defense for the freshly-exhumed I-Man last night. Someone from NAG called him a racist bigot and he refuted it.

Three-year-old jihadis, OTOH, he has no problem with.

It leaves Rev. Al demanding his own WABC show. In a gesture of goodwill and magnanimity, I suggest giving him the 3:55-4 am slot.

What I wouldn’t give for a look at the Rutger’s team’s iPod playlists… How much do you want to bet they’re chock full of “music” with lyrics including the words “nigga” and “ho” ?

What makes you so sure of the type of music to which these women listen? Be specific.

What type of music should I presume you to prefer? On what shall I base my prejudgements?

Gospel, neo-soul, jazz, reggae and other non-rap music are also popular among African-Americans. Here’s a shocker; rap music would not have made it through the 90s without a majority of suburban listeners/buyers/concert goers.

Also, why have the white basketball players been disregarded by Imus supporters?

He had a decent show. He is personally annoying, but he has a pretty fair approach to interviewing. I wonder how neutered he will be now.

Since she wanted a look at their playlists…it appears that she’s not ’so sure’ at all. Of course, she did say she’s willing to bet on it, but betting is playing the odds on usually uncertain outcomes.

I’m more bothered by a reporter making the same kind of appearance-based value judgements Imus made, i.e. ‘tall beauty’ vs. ‘nappy-headed hos.’ (Oh, but since it was a compliment, everything’s fine with that, eh?)

Did he become white overnight? He is black ya’ know.

Wade on October 16, 2007 at 2:06 PM

color is irrelevent.

Is is very relevent because if he was white he would not get away with all the racism.

Where does this leave Reverend Al?

At the moment, marching in LA for the constraining ‘abuse’ of a cake-throwing-out-of-control Black girl, by a white security guard, which never happened, which the doctors have medical records to prove, and which story the LAT hasn’t corrected. No, they go with the mother’s lies, and so does Al. Never mind that the girl and mother signed a paper stating that she was totally ok, after the hospital physical check-up and psychological assessment.

So, he always has ‘victims’ to defend, real or imagined. To him and the ’cause’ it doesn’t matter.

So he’ll be back as a talk radio eunuch. (yawn)

I don’t KNOW… but I’m guessing, and that guess is based on a variety of data not limited to personal observation. Are you seriously arguing that the rap is NOT the most popular style of music for black college students?

This UA study (admittedly a very small sample) indicates that hip-hop is not just a popular form of music, it’s an integral part of the culture these kids live in. They may ALSO listen to jazz and other music, but college students have not rejected hip hop because of its racism and misogynist views nor do they even acknowledge how hateful it is. I’m generalizing by including the Rutgers women in with their peers, but as I said, I bet I’m right.

Laura on October 16, 2007 at 3:17 PM

In case you don’t feel like reading the study –

How much do Black students participate in
Hip-Hop culture?

As shown in the table, a large number of students take part in Hip-Hop culture; 80% of students said they listen to rap (item 6) and 71% said they incorporate it as part of their daily life
activities (item 20).

Vivian Stringer cashed in big time on Imusgate… book deal… big new contract…not to mention absolute moral authority
and at least one player, Kia Vaughn, has filed a big money lawsuit…

Maybe they’re hoping Imus will chat up another big payday?
