We could start a “Libertinian Party”. Restricted to small-L libertarians with actual social skills, and conservative atheists.

Could we drink “Libertinis” ?

I wonder what the ratio is in Paul’s base between true believing libertarians who really do long for a return to small government laissez faire constitutionalism and Truthers, tax protesters, college kids looking for an “alternative” candidate, and other assorted characters from the Star Wars bar scene of American politics looking to register a protest vote and coalescing around the guy who believes in the North American Union and a new Gulf of Tonkin inicident in the offing in the Persian Gulf.

My entire religious ultra-conservative family is leaning towards him. Rudy is no good (anti-gun, pro-abortion) and too liberal besides. Romney is no good (Morman, not really pro-gun, not really anti-abortion). Thompson championed McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform (according to Feingold it couldn’t have passed without his help). John McCain is too liberal, plus he seems weak. Tancredo is a nationalist and a racist. And everyone left is below Paul on the radar.

Paul is the only one who is (a) a member of a “mainstream” Christian church, (b) pro-life, (c) pro-2nd Amendment, (d) not in favor of social programs, (e) for securing our borders (without being racist or nationalist), (f) in favor of the 1st Amendment when it comes to political speech. Plus, he’s in favor of abolishing government education and promotes private schools and home schooling.

That’s not to say that he doesn’t have support from “Truthers” (because of his anti-Iraq intervention stance) and from tax protesters (who like him for his small government philosophy) and “college kids” (because he’s the only option if you’re anti-war and pro-capitalism)… but don’t underestimate Conservative Stockholm Syndrome. The last two Republican presidents have been lying big-government stooges (must be genetic). Some people are just tired of getting pandered to by false prophets of conservatism.

Ron Paul, being the crazy crank he is, would be universally hated by the left and the right. His plans require congressional approval and there is little that he can do on his own that the congress can’t seriously hamper.

Paul would be the safest choice. Hell, he may be the chosen one that will unite the left and right and bring balance to the force…..er, I mean politics.

Probably because he and basically everyone up there not named “Tucker Carlson” is calling Ron Paul “the only sane man left” in the Republican field, while showcasing that all of those mental midgets have no *&%&^ing clue who Ron Paul is or what he supports.

Well, they are similar in the respect that both of them have some rational but the have rabid kooky fans who make more of those traits than they should.

1. Both of them are punchlines to popular jokes.
2. Neither of them will ever be president.
