NFL Week 6 open thread
posted at 12:00 pm on October 14, 2007 by Bryan
Here’s the schedule. Marquee games include Houston at Jacksonville, Washington at Green Bay and New England at Dallas (both come into the week 5-0). There’s also a battle of the bottom feeders when Philly goes north to take on the Jets.

Redskins win, Cowboys lose … what else is there?
darwin on October 14, 2007 at 12:01 PM
Go Packers. :)
katieanne on October 14, 2007 at 12:02 PM
It’s gonna be strange seeing my Jets in the old NY Titans uniforms today…But then, I don’t care if they wear tutus…as long as they crush the Eagles!
C’mon baby….let’s go for 2 wins!

Al Davis former team and long time nemesis of the raider nation is going to go down faster then an intern of slick wily in the oral office.
and until big D gets rid of TO i am boycotting them just like i did after they got rid of Tom Landry

The Lions are off this week and need a break to regroup.

Cowboys will beat the Patriots. Just watch.

Goodbye undefeated record for Dallas.
Patriots 31-20
JammieWearingFool on October 14, 2007 at 12:19 PM
John Kerry and Teddyquiddic better have the gin out….they are going to need it.
Pats get stomped. Sorta like the Tribe did to the Botox last night. :)
Limerick on October 14, 2007 at 12:19 PM
Whats the NFL?
EricPWJohnson on October 14, 2007 at 12:19 PM
Too bad the NFL isn’t a bit more flexible in scheduling, it would be a good spot to have the Patriots and Dallas play this evening and move Seattle and NO to another channel.
Nothing like a Sunday night double header, specially when you’re off Monday. ;-)
normsrevenge on October 14, 2007 at 12:21 PM
After that Superbowl performance on Monday Night Football, the Cowboys may be un-stop-able. Have you seen the NFC East standings… one more win and Dallas clinches home field advntge throughout the playoffs(kidding):) GO PACKERS!!! GO TITANS!!! GO OVERTIME!!!
christophercube on October 14, 2007 at 12:23 PM
Sigh……..My San Diego Charger’s are doing their very best to eliminate themselves before the season is even half over…….
doriangrey on October 14, 2007 at 12:25 PM
Amazing how much things change between seasons. The Sunday night game and the Monday night game would were big-time matchups. Now: notsomuch.
Spirit of 1776 on October 14, 2007 at 12:26 PM
The Super Steelers are off this weekend. But I predict (hope) that the Ravens, Bengals and Browns all lose. The Cowboys will surprise the Pats. And there you have it.
Zorro on October 14, 2007 at 12:30 PM
Agreed…I think the Pats are in for a little suprise, courtesy of the ‘boys.
At least I hope so…I can’t stand either team, but with the (cheating) Patriots in my Jetties division, I gotsta root for the silver and blue.
*sigh* I’m never going to see a NY Jets superbowl in my lifetime, am I? But alas….I can dream.
JetBoy on October 14, 2007 at 12:43 PM
When my late Father was in the hospital here in Western PA, that kid from Beaver Falls, who knew my Father for many years, dropped in to sit with him for a few hours. Susan Anton was with him. Because of that visit, I’ve always been a Joe Namath and a Jets fan!

Redskins lose, Cowboys win…What else is there? :>
mimi1220 on October 14, 2007 at 12:55 PM
This is too weird….watching Gang Green in blue and gold…but then, what’s it gonna do, bring ‘em bad luck or something?
JetBoy on October 14, 2007 at 1:06 PM
You mean Futbol Americana? Remember … the NFL likes to celebrate Hispanic awareness month or something like that.

lorien1973 on October 14, 2007 at 1:25 PM
Fail to the Reskins, even though they just tied it up at the not-yet-wet Lambeau Field. It matters not that I took them against the line (along with the 3); I’m back to betting my default mode on Packer games (don’t go for both the cash and the satisfaction).
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 1:32 PM
Redskins, even.
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 1:32 PM
how about the most ridiculous return man in history doing it again for the bears!!!
7-0

er…7-7 now…damn
immersed on October 14, 2007 at 1:43 PM
I probably dislike the patriots more than any other team except the Raiders, but you guys calling for a cowboys win/upset are delusional. The Patriots have a hell of a lot better defense than that pack of a**clowns that smacked the cowboys around last week…and the Cowboys defense..wait, what cowboys defense? Don’t get too cocky. I can’t root for either team because I hate the patriots and I hate Jerry jones so, I really couldn’t give a crap either way, but the Patriots deserve a bit more credit than is being shown here.
austinnelly on October 14, 2007 at 1:44 PM
I just hope that Seattle can go all the way in the near future before the leftist majority in this town impose their social engineering on the team. We’ll have quotas to meet like: 51% of the O-line must be women. The coaches must be transgendered, diversity consultants instead of player scouts. No hitting practice, just enlightenment drills. And last but not least- no more sexist cheerleaders!!
And they call themselves Progressive… bahhhh
Child In Time on October 14, 2007 at 1:50 PM
Patriots rock … Moss will outshine Owens, Owens will bitch … team morale will plummet, Romo going for 6 interceptions.
darwin on October 14, 2007 at 1:53 PM
Woodson finally earns his keep. Nice tip-ball drill and outfight Randle El for the ball.
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 1:57 PM
Just five more hours until the 5-1 Pats head for the airport.
Limerick on October 14, 2007 at 2:21 PM
Once again, the Pack can’t cover tight ends. Cooley for the easy TD, 14-7 Skins late in the 2nd.
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 2:23 PM
Don’t worry. Come out to tailgate heaven near the viaduct and you will see that the REAL fans would never let your scenario happen. There would be a riot if they tried to ban the Seagals!
Hawks are about to work the Saints on national TV. This is a much needed rehab game after that debacle in Pittsburgh last week. If you are watching the game on TV, look in the very upper left corner of the Hawks Nest. I’ll wave to you.
Mallard T. Drake on October 14, 2007 at 2:23 PM
Yeah, if you aren’t a Seahawks fan, it will be a boring game as the Hawks are going to work the Saints. Routs can get boring if you have no interest in the teams.
It will be loud though. There have been about 55 procedure penalties on the visiting teams in Seahawks stadium over the past few years. Next closest team is Minnesota with about 35. Fear the roar of the 12th Man!
Mallard T. Drake on October 14, 2007 at 2:28 PM
At the half, it’s the Deadskins 14, the Packers 7.
At least I was smart enough to bet on the ‘Skins so I wouldn’t be completely shattered come 3 o’clock.
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 2:31 PM
Vikings, Bears tied at 14
Go Vikings!!

Couldn’t resist.

LOL.
Gotta admit though, great game. SEC is tough.
BacaDog on October 14, 2007 at 3:00 PM
—- James Jones. He refused to fight for that ball, and now Favre has the interceptions record.
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 3:03 PM
Yes, great game, it just ended wrong. No KU played real hard and deserve their win. OUCH that hurt.
abinitioadinfinitum on October 14, 2007 at 3:04 PM
Things could be worse; you could be a Badger fan.
I’m openly wondering whether Bucky’s going to a bowl this year.
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 3:05 PM
Very nice win. And then Cal loses on a bonehead play by their QB. I am anxious to see the BCS poll later today.
But for now: How about those Oregon Ducks! 7/6 in the AP/USA Today polls! Highest ranked team in the Pac-10. Fear the might quack of the Ducks!
Mallard T. Drake on October 14, 2007 at 3:06 PM
Friday night @TexasStadium was my daughters big rivalry high school game… “the mound showdown”(we lost):( anyway, we saw the Patriots head coach settin up cameras on the Cowboys side.

abinitioadinfinitum on October 14, 2007 at 3:11 PM
Last Monday night, CarrieUnderwood was on the sideline with Romo… He stated he would win the game for her, she told him that if he really loved her he would lose the game for her.
christophercube on October 14, 2007 at 3:12 PM
ANOTHER reason to move back to TX from CA. The Cowboy game isn’t even on HERE!!!!! Communists.
mimi1220 on October 14, 2007 at 3:12 PM
After all, it’s on cBS (can’t do the tags here).
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 3:13 PM
Hope you didn’t have Santana Moss on your fantasy teams like me; 1 yard on an end-around and a fumble-six.
17-14 Packers.
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 3:21 PM
Seahawks all the way all the time! Unfortunately, they are looking a lot like a wildcard team this year. In the Pacific Northwest you can’t afford to be a fair weather fan. I’m with the Seahawks through thick and thin!
I’ll look for ya Mallard. I live in AZ, so chances are slim that I’ll be at any games soon. :-(
Cowboys are good but not that good. Especially on a short week after Monday Night.
Ordinary1 on October 14, 2007 at 3:21 PM
Go Packers!
Ordinary1 on October 14, 2007 at 3:26 PM
I don’t know the spread but I would not bet against the Saints this game. I’m not really talking smack, just saying how predictably unpredictable the Saints are. If that makes any sense at all.
abinitioadinfinitum on October 14, 2007 at 3:31 PM
Bodog had the morning line at Seahags -6.5. Feel free to take them, as well as any prop bets against Reggie Bush getting out of the game healthy.
steveegg on October 14, 2007 at 3:35 PM
BCS isn’t out yet, Mallard, but here’s the latest AP top 15.
Yep, Cal was a heartbreaker. Rookie mistake by their QB, but he’ll know next time.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes (50)
2. South Florida Bulls (11)
3. Boston College Eagles (1)
4. Oklahoma Sooners (1)
5. L-S-U Tigers (1)
6. South Carolina Gamecocks
7. Oregon Ducks
8. Kentucky Wildcats
9. West Virginia Mountaineers
10. California Golden Bears
11. Virginia Tech Hokies
12. Arizona State Sun Devils (1)
13. U-S-C Trojans
14. Florida Gators
15. Kansas Jayhawks

Pats smack down on the ‘boys!!! Count on it! And that coming from someone who dispises the Pats!
As a Minnesota native, GO VIKINGS! 24 – 14 (10 min to go in 4rth).
As for my second home (Florida), Dolphins and FSU suck! Gators not so much!

The man who killed the Blackhawks is dead; maybe they’ll do something.
And the Bulls might be ok. Hey, it’s not so bad after all.

If this keeps up, Texas Tech might even make their way into the top 20! Yes, even Texas Tech! Nine years in Lubbock ended a couple years ago. Go Tech! I now live in Tucson, but I’m not a U of A fan… yet.
Really proud for Oregon State and Oregon. I’m one of those rare Oregonians who like both, much to my brothers and sisters chagrin. They are Beavers.
Man, New England’s really moving the ball on their first drive after Dallas went three and out. I’m not surprised!
Ordinary1 on October 14, 2007 at 4:28 PM
BTW, Wes Welker (who just fumbled) is a former Red Raider as is RB Sammy Morris.
Ordinary1 on October 14, 2007 at 4:29 PM
Can’t believe I’m rooting for the Pats! Ugh! 7 – 0! Boys 3 and out! Romo sacked! It’s early, but I smell a smack down!

Thank God the Vikings won today. Ithought the team was going to have a 1-15 season. Now it looks like a 2-14 season
hinduconservative on October 14, 2007 at 5:06 PM
Patience must have! Young team Vikings are. Worse could be, Dolphins 0-16 will be! ;P

synycalwon on October 14, 2007 at 5:38 PM
Whoop! There it is! Romo to Owens! 21 – 17! Game on!
synycalwon on October 14, 2007 at 5:56 PM

Yeah Tech, that’s my team. I work with a bunch of aggies. Can’t wait to get to work in the morning!!!! ha
They may kill me before the day is over. They can be a pretty nasty bunch when they suck.

21-17……….Kerry’s boys are getting nervous!
Limerick on October 14, 2007 at 6:06 PM
Kudos to the ‘boys! Started out slow! Second half should be good! My ol’ Cowboys faith is returning!
(Full disclosure: was a die-hard fan back in the Staubach/Dorsett days. Was crushed when they lost the Superbowl to the Steelers!)
synycalwon on October 14, 2007 at 6:08 PM
It wasn’t pretty today, but the Packers are 5-1 going into the bye. Who woulda thunk it?
packsoldier on October 14, 2007 at 6:13 PM
I sure wouldn’t have, glad to see Brett having a good year. Maybe now that bum will retire ;-)
conservnut on October 14, 2007 at 6:15 PM
That’s sacrilege. How dare you? ;P
synycalwon on October 14, 2007 at 6:18 PM
Low blow. Wisconsin will shore up a bowl bid when they play N. Illinois next week. The Penn State game was rough, but that tends to happen when your 1st running back is banged up with a groin injury, your 2nd running back can’t travel with the team, your top two wide receivers are out for the season and you have to start two true freshman in their place.
At least the Packers won. Man do teams from Wisconsin like to play ugly.

Hate to even say this, but odds of Tom Brady breaking Peyton Manning’s touchdown record? Moss the “X” factor?
