Video: The Norwegians take Manhattan — the complete segment

Well, not really complete. James Oddo claims his interview lasted 15 minutes; the edit of it here is about two minutes long, which is a minute or so longer than the viral clip that’s been circulating for the past week. It’s worth watching not so much for that as for the segments with the Democratic politician and the history professor, just to see how their reactions to the interviewer’s affected idiocy vary from his. I confess to laughing when she says, “Has it spread to Iraq?” There’s something about an attractive blonde winsomely pretending to be stupid…

Be advised that the cut of the Oddo confrontation here doesn’t include any bleeps so if you’re offended by strong language, pass on it.

gotta love that shot of Barack, though.

The one guy needs to end the snorting that he does through his nose. Plus, he’s quite pretentious.

If Techno Viking shows up asking questions we’re all in trouble.

Bellicose Muse on October 12, 2007 at 10:22 PM

Borat created and destroyed that genre.

pedestrian on October 12, 2007 at 10:26 PM

teh funny

treyevans on October 12, 2007 at 10:27 PM

I don’t know………….He tolerated her for about a minute and a half longer than I would have. Since conversation with her would be out of the question, unless there was something else involved I would’ve tossed her too…

stacman on October 12, 2007 at 10:32 PM

Wow, that was funny!! Who needs politics, when we have humor?

thuja on October 12, 2007 at 10:34 PM

I confess to laughing more than once.

I can’t wait to see the ten second version of this,
Rudy,hillary,Barack Oboma,the southern states,
Vietnam,Irag,Hillary,cigar and FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!LMAO.hehe

canopfor on October 12, 2007 at 10:38 PM

I don’t know who that councilman is but, I give him a lot of credit. He claimed he was a Republican but he wouldn’t put up with smears to our politicians. Meanwhile, what WAS SHE SAYING about Hilary Clinton and a cigar???

Babs on October 12, 2007 at 10:40 PM

It’s good to know someone from NY has some b@lls!

That’s a good point. I know I’m biased, but I can picture a dem sitting there snickering along with the interviewer if she was smearing Bush.

You know it’s true.

reaganaut on October 12, 2007 at 10:53 PM

I guess I’m old. I don’t get the humor. She way less obnoxious than Borat though. That’s a good thing. She’s cute, but the humor just isn’t.

Good point about the Republican stopping the interview when he did. Would a Democrat do the same if she went there against Bush? Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Ordinary1 on October 12, 2007 at 11:18 PM

Instant classic. Oddo could leverage this into a run for Mayor :)

BJ* on October 12, 2007 at 11:18 PM

She gets nicer looking every time you run a new/old video, AP. Dolly.

Oddo is priceless, and the other two were fine. The professor was actually pretty funny; he was laughing about how stupid she was.

Bellicose Muse on October 12, 2007 at 10:22 PM

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. It was sort of funny the first time, but the snorting went on and on I was like “DUDE, CUT IT OUT!”, by the end.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks that chick gets hotter and hotter each time we see her?

RightWinged on October 12, 2007 at 11:31 PM

I’m struck with how little of a sense of humor these guys have. They are joyless prigs. Oddo is an angry jerk. No pity for an impossibly hot dumb blonde. Have you no decency?

Ordinary1 on October 12, 2007 at 11:18 PM

Nope, they’d be hi-fiving them. It would be really funny to see someone punking out a Dem, going on and on about Haliburton and Karl Rove.

By the way, when Fox showed this video they said the councilman was a Democrat by mistake. In the Democrat Party’s dreams.

It’s nothing to take too seriously and it was all in good fun IMO. I laughed at more than a few parts.

Yakko77 on October 13, 2007 at 12:22 AM

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have pity and I believe that our education like such as South America, Vietnam, and the Iraq, everywhere like such as. And I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help South America and should help the Iraq and Vietnam so that we will be able to build up our future.

The Monster on October 13, 2007 at 12:23 AM

I don’t know who James Oddo is, but what a star!

If he’d really been on the ball, he’d have said “get this cheap, blonde Borat rip-off outta my office”, but even so…

Then we could have had lunch.

I would much rather see an intelligent beautiful woman speak, than a beautiful women that is not well enough informed on even basic facts to hold an intelligent, or even mildly interesting, conversation without taking her clothes off. The only way this woman would hold my attention for any length of time is showing lots of cleavage and sexy attire.

Give me Ann Coulter any day. She is intelligent, beautiful, and has a point of view that makes sense. You may not agree with her, but her positions are clearly defined, coherent, and make sense from someone who shares her values. That is a necesary part of what it takes for me to find a woman sexy.

omegaram on October 13, 2007 at 1:16 AM

A Norwegian Borat?

Speakup on October 13, 2007 at 1:45 AM

Oddo… that’s the NY we all know and love, baby.

silverfox on October 13, 2007 at 5:31 AM

If it had been me she’d interviewed asking what a President would do for the “southern states like Chile and Argentina,” I’d just have assumed she was using “state” in its less frequent meaning–in English, at least–of a sovereign nation rather than a province of a nation. “Secretary of State” is a derivation of that meaning.

I often miss AP’s swipes at KP; they can be quite subtle.

Jaibones on October 13, 2007 at 8:18 AM

I needed a good smile this morning. :) I almost fell out of my chair when she talked about Obama not being a citizen, because he’s “African Ameriacn”.

SuperManGreenLantern on October 13, 2007 at 9:36 AM

As a lifelong New Yorker (not totally proud though) I can say with a degree of certainty that Staten Island is the last bastion of Republicans in any of the 5 boroughs or even Long Island. Guys like Oddo are unfortunately all too rare these days, as someone in an early post wrote….. A Republican with balls!

Joey1974 on October 13, 2007 at 12:00 PM

There may only be 3 Republicans out of 51 members of the N.Y.C. council but he is also the leader of them.

Joey1974 on October 13, 2007 at 12:02 PM

Note to self. Add faen to colorful lanquage lexicon.

You have to love the fact that the rest of the world concerns themselves so much with America that they follow our elections pretty closely. We really are the world’s superpower.

I would have told her that her Ali G routine didn’t work, she is a bad actress, not funny, a rank amateur, and that she should find other work. I’d tell her she should have studied Cohen for awhile before trying to emulate him. Just because one comedian can pull that stuff off, doesn’t mean any untalented nitwit can do the same. She is proof of that.

Man, when is getting angry there, I thought he sounded like John Travolta or something…classic New Yawk accent….

Albertanator on October 13, 2007 at 8:03 PM

But you have to admit, she is hot. Strikingly beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. Cleavage. Wow. But she couldn’t possibly be THAT DUMB. Or ignorant. I dearly hope it was an act. If not. Oh, my. Major, major DITZ. No, really, she couldn’t possibly that out of it. Could she? My brain is overheating trying to cope with this…it’s just not possible to be that inept with our language, even as a foreigner. Is it? AARGH! Maybe if she conducted the interviews in a bikini…whatever she said would have gone totally unnoticed.

Roger Brown on October 14, 2007 at 12:49 AM

Great clip. Oddo is a (R) in name only. He does not listen carefully, and needs many labels (see the wall behind him) and signs so he can show people how Nacho Libre he is.

If he was really a Republican he would have been able to see the charade being played and played with it by coming up with a bit of igpa atlina or other means to translate what he thought was being said and have fun before asking them to leave because the interview was not going to be constructive.

In effective communications listen carefully. Project back to the originator what you think they are saying (with a twist-like Norm Crosby would do, or emphasizing a point they do not agree with that you thought they were trying to convey). This keeps the other person off guard or balance. When they sense you have figured out their agenda they become a blabbering bowl of jello and they leave in a huff.

MSGTAS on October 14, 2007 at 10:57 AM

OK…I watched the first interview and one of the subsequent ones with Oddo explaining his ire. He thankfully didn’t apologize for throwing out the faux (or is that faen?) news crew or for the colorful language used to do so. Oddo is obviously someone whose time is precious and who takes his job in service to his country seriously. I am sure that had the interview been conducted under different circumstances, (say, for example where he was more relaxed and not under time pressures) he may have reacted with a bit more humor.

So I applaud the councilman and hold the rest of faen New York Republican Party up to his standard.

On another note, I am surprised that none of the commenters made a link between the Norwegian interview questions and subtitles with the classic openning credits to Monty Python and Holy Grail. There’s something inherently humorous about the Norway, it’s spoken and written language, geography and peoples.
