“Next, scrawled across the doorway to my office, you wrote, “Recruiters are Traitors.” Please explain this one. How exactly am I a traitor? Was I a traitor when I joined the Marine Corps all those years ago? Is every Marine, therefore, a traitor? Was I a traitor during my two stints in Iraq? Was I a traitor when I was delivering humanitarian aid to the victims of the tsunami in Sumatra? Or do you only consider me a traitor while I am on this job? The fact is, recruitment is and always has been a part of maintaining any military organization. In fact, recruitment is a necessity of any large organization. Large corporations have employees that recruit full-time. Even you, I’m sure, must expend some effort to recruit for Code Pink. So what, exactly, is it that makes me a traitor?”

Good words. Good rebuke. A waste to Code Pink and all the other asshat anti-war/amerika Libs that actually sit in the hallowed halls of our House and Senate. “spit..”

auspatriotman on October 12, 2007 at 10:52 PM

How do you reason with these people? You don’t. Just do your job, for your country. No amount of name calling, questioning, protesting has any effect on what you do. It is just a bunch of words. You’re stronger than that. Period. There will always be groups like Code Pink. Keep in mind that there are more people out there that support you than not.

mimi1220 on October 12, 2007 at 10:54 PM

Great job reading Code Pink the riot act! Well reasoned arguments that are full of truth, justice, and the American way always triumph over ignorance parading around in pink.

Ordinary1 on October 12, 2007 at 10:57 PM

Truth hurts!

“My existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it.”

synycalwon on October 12, 2007 at 11:06 PM

Does code pink, liberal loon moonbats thinking
go all the way back to 1776!

canopfor on October 12, 2007 at 11:07 PM

Captain Richard Lund , Code stink isn’t worth your time.
They deserve ”0” respect and definitely not a written
slapdown. They can’t clean the bottom of your boots.

Somehow I think your still going to do the right thing
and challenge them properly.

God Bless you Marine.

God Bless you Marine.

Texyank on October 12, 2007 at 11:11 PM

Amen!

Ordinary1 on October 12, 2007 at 11:13 PM

Great rebuke! It probably fell on deaf ears though.

boomer on October 12, 2007 at 11:16 PM

That was an awesome letter. He even worded it so tactfully that I cannot find anything that can be spun to make it look like he insulted or victimized code pink (I refuse to capitolize their name). Only one problem. These people are stubborn and will never read it. At most they will stop at the end of the first paragraph.

El Guapo on October 12, 2007 at 11:31 PM

Smackdown. It is one of the most confusing things about the far left for me; their inability to understand that the military and the politicians are not the same thing. Most military members don’t want to spend every other year in harm’s way a world apart from their families, but if we are tasked with a mission we will accomplish it. It doesn’t matter if a (D) or an (R) gives it to us. We serve our country.

BadgerHawk on October 12, 2007 at 11:32 PM

“Recruiters are Traitors.” Please explain this one. How exactly am I a traitor? Was I a traitor when I joined the Marine Corps all those years ago?

Well I guess a Marine recruiter would be a traitor if he tried to get all the potential Marine recruits to join the Army.

MB4 on October 12, 2007 at 11:34 PM

BadgerHawk

Very well spoken, comrad. I just got back last month, and go back next September. But I volunteered for it. God bless our draft free military.

El Guapo on October 12, 2007 at 11:36 PM

Oops.

Code Pink flunkies thought all Marines were turncoat wimps like Murtha.

This time around you ran into a real Marine.

Thanks for the smackdown Captain Lund. And thanks for your service.

fogw on October 12, 2007 at 11:39 PM

MB4 These Marines are so proud that a recruiter told me, “You’re joining the Marines to be a Marine and serve your country, not for the bonus.” Too bad they wanted to take 3 stripes from me for crossing over. I am dedicated, but a pay cut like that, a single guy with a family cannnot afford. God Bless them.

El Guapo on October 12, 2007 at 11:41 PM

I wish Code Pink could live under the Communism they embrace for 30 days. Their eyes would open!

Gatordoug on October 12, 2007 at 11:45 PM

God bless our draft free military.

El Guapo on October 12, 2007 at 11:36 PM

Amen to that. I’m still in the middle of seemingly endless flight school, but I’m sure I’ll make it overseas one of these days. Stay safe on your next trip.

BadgerHawk on October 12, 2007 at 11:46 PM

How do you reason with these people?

mimi1220 on October 12, 2007 at 10:54 PM

You can’t. When people are firmly convinced that right is wrong and good is bad and righteousness is evil, only God’s Spirit can open their eyes to the truth.

infidel4life on October 12, 2007 at 11:48 PM

BadgerHawk

Flight school? You mean I have to salute you eventually!? All due respect, I have to ask ask, just remember to trust and use your experienced and senior enlisted (E-4/5 and up). They are a living book of “lessons learned” from witnessing other officers and NCOs screwing up.

El Guapo on October 12, 2007 at 11:50 PM

I will never forsake the courage that it takes to restrain myself in the face of insulting and libelous labels like liar and traitor.
The direct and simple resoluteness of that sentence and the fortitude that it represents is strikingly beautiful. Well said, sir. Very well said.

pistolero on October 13, 2007 at 12:04 AM

To people who apparently think that fuzzy bunnies pop out of the rectums of misunderstood jihadis and give peace signs and smile, there is no reasoning.

They imagine that conflict and stress are “wrong”.

Failing to grasp that these are the foundational structures of matter and energy.

As necessary as gravity, without which we slowly disintegrate.

Their idea of “non-violence” would be the annihilation of the known universe …by undoing its nature.

A shame we have to clean up after these asshats.

Semper fi.

On deaf eyes this rebuke will read.

God Bless our Military Men and Women

These are the type of people that scream and rant for tolerance of their lifestyles and beliefs, if only because they have no tolerance of anyone else who disagrees with them.

Mallard T. Drake on October 13, 2007 at 1:55 AM

Folks, you really should read the letters to the editor. LOL

You can’t make this stuff up!

CHEERS TO EDNA

Editors, Daily Planet:

Cheers to Edna Spector for her Sept. 25 commentary advocating “a massive human population collapse, hopefully leading to the voluntary extinction of the human race.” But I fear even her bold prescription is too little, too late. Even in dire poverty and privation humans stubbornly pursue the urge to breed, and population reduction will be a slow, ugly process of migrations away from submerged coastlines and massive starvation as fertile farmlands dry up. I submit that the best hope for the planet would be the timely arrival of another asteroid to eliminate this murderous, forest-burning, ocean-fouling, sky-polluting cancer on the earth we jokingly call Homo sapiens. Meanwhile, I heartily endorse her proposal that Berkeley should become the model for creating free euthanasia clinics around the world.

free euthanasia clinics around the world.

Another Soros supported initiative.

Connie on October 13, 2007 at 2:50 AM

Very logical, very honest, and very accurate.

From what I have observed of their operatives, Code Pink is an organization rife with people who are emotionally imbalanced, and mentally deranged. His words would be like offering a delicious Indian, Thai, Chinese, or Italian meal to a rabid dog.

William

William2006 on October 13, 2007 at 4:13 AM

I lived in Berkeley for seven years. I moved back to Southern California about a week before 9/11. I have often said that I owe my sanity (and lack of a police record for assault, now that I think about it) to that move.

Were I still up there, or if I return in the near future, I’d like to shake hands with Captain Lund. The man is, from what I’ve read, the epitome of a gentleman, a fine officer, and a patriot. A lesser man would have descended to the level of the true traitors who tried to smear him, but he replied with honor and integrity.

I am not a Marine (and I’ve never served in the Armed Forces, so I invite any trolls to call me a chickenhawk–I don’t really care), but I want to say “Semper Fi” to Captain Lund.

Sean M. on October 13, 2007 at 7:09 AM

The Captain’s response is eloquent and spot on. I’m concerned about the number of incidents of lefty brownshirts venting their anger on soldiers.

They -don’t- support the troops and never did.

dogsoldier on October 13, 2007 at 10:42 AM

It’s good to see Marines showing some spine when it comes to things like this. Usually, the chain of command will tell you to just turn the other cheek and affirm their right to free speech when confronted with this type of intellectual (and sometimes actual) terrorism.

Code Pink is not an anti-war group, it’s a terrorist or guerrilla group, but it doesn’t use violence. It’s warfare in 4th generation sense, conducted by non-nation state actors against the U.S. It’s crafted its message carefully to appeal to the standard leftists and others with a hatred for their country. Capt. Lund fought back quite effectively in a 4th generation sense. The Marines and the rest of teh military should follow his example.

PRCalDude on October 13, 2007 at 11:18 AM

As usual, liberals project everything they are onto those they oppose, by calling fine patriotic Americans traitors. But CPT Lund’s rebuttal was just about perfect. I especially liked the way he pointed out the inherent contradiction in the Code Pinkos opposing recruiting while simultaneously wanting to send peacekeepers to Darfur–but then being a screaming liberal means never having to be bound by logic or reason. As always, the contrast couldn’t be more clear–service members like CPT Lund are the best of us, and Leftish trash like Code Pink are the worst.

ReubenJCogburn on October 13, 2007 at 11:27 AM

Tell me, how proud of Captain Richard Lund are you? I couldn’t be more proud. Thank you Capt. Lund for your words and patience when trying to communicate to such haters.

May God Bless Capt. Lund and the USMC!

Zorro on October 13, 2007 at 12:35 PM

Captain Richard Lund just doesn’t seem to get it. In Code Pink’s eyes, if you’re not to the left of Stalin, you’re a traitor.

Of course Joe and Mao were by far the 20th Century’s two biggest mass murders–but to them that’s beside the point.

Dr. Charles G. Waugh on October 13, 2007 at 1:41 PM

These are the type of people that scream and rant for tolerance of their lifestyles and beliefs, if only because they have no tolerance of anyone else who disagrees with them.

Mallard T. Drake on October 13, 2007 at 1:55 AM

Good point Mallard, I would also like to add the fact that the pinkos not only expect everyone to bow to their beliefs and tolerate their lifestyles at the same time they (at every turn and opportunity) continue to aid our enemy through their divisive and misguided actions and in doing so are only ensuring they will lose the very beliefs and lifestyles they hold so dear!

For the life of me I will never be able to comprehend their utter ignorance, do they really think their freedom to believe and live as they see fit will somehow improve under a facsist Islamic Caliphate?

Seriously, it’s one thing when your actions result in your own demise but it’s quite another when your actions place your nation and fellow countrymen (and women) in peril! If they want to committ suicide, that’s their choice, but don’t take the rest of us with you code pukes!

To all at code puke I quote a line from Monty Python’s Holy Grail…”I fart in your general direction, I wave my private parts at you, you tiny wiper of other people’s bottoms!”

Thank you Captain Lund for your service and the service of all in uniform that have provided me the freedom to post my thoughts and opinions on HA!

Liberty or Death on October 13, 2007 at 2:11 PM

mmm, mmm, Good!

Ain’t cogent great?

JazzBass on October 13, 2007 at 2:32 PM

We cannot hear enough of the clear honorable prose of our soldiers in this conflict. It is astonishing to me that so many of our citizens have taken it upon themselves to try to undermine our military at home. Do they wish to help the enemy to win a war he could not hope to win on the battlefield? If that is not their purpose, I wish they would explain what their purpose is. In clear sentences, as Captain Lund would use.

Splunge on October 13, 2007 at 9:19 PM

Semper Fi, Captain Lund.

Code Pink is a disgrace. Its barely worth it to attack them, they and Moveon.org are among the lowest of the low. They are subhumans, who in an earlier, less abundant time would have gotten their commupance long ago.
