Rudy loses my vote; Update: Hillary leads Rudy in swing states?
posted at 5:53 pm on October 10, 2007 by Allahpundit
I’ve given Dobson a lot of heat lately about drawing ideological red lines that will have the effect of making Hillary president. Even evangelicals are getting increasingly antsy about it.
But suddenly, I understand. Every man, including and especially we stalwart Yankee-haters, has his moral limits — and Rudy just crossed mine.
Update: That “electability” argument’s getting shakier by the moment.

I do believe Rudy was in jester mode AP. As I hope you are as well. None-the-less I hope there’s no Rudy on the ticket.

GOD: Um, Rudy…..NO, RUDOLPHO this is NOT Judykins, this is the Living Lord…. I’m calling to tell you that you better turn off this phone and give the Frozen Chosen there in the audience your undivided butt-smooching, altar boy attention because I have no plans to allow you and that Dobson fellow to screw this up for Me. It is My Will that this Nation, under Me, will be spared the Hell of another Clinton Presidency.
Besides I have a bet going with Lucifer. He says Hillary sweeps it by 8 points because you boobs on the Right can’t get your heads out of your asses AND WIN THIS ELECTION ON THOSE VALUES I WENT TO GREAT TROUBLE AND BLOODSHED TO HAVE WRITTEN DOWN FOR YOU.
Rudy. Baby. Help ME, help YOU, help the GOP.

It may be the beginning of the strongest cabinet yet. Hire all of the fired managers. Most of them have taken more abuse, cr*p from reporters, baby sat whining millionaires, rubbed elbows with the “elites”, and sat with the common people. They know heartache, heartbreak, may be the perfect combo.

I’m not so sure he’s joking- Rudy does have a pretty strong cronyist streak in him.
Personally, I think Romney has the NY Yankees strategy down pat this year- spend boatloads of money only to end up losing- and still have most people dislike you.

hahaha AP. No wonder you’ve been so ornery lately. Sorry about the Mets dude.
But I assure you Rudy will have a difficult time ‘sticking to his principles’ with a Democratic congress even as ‘bad-a$$-in-chief’.
Funny post though. hahaha.
ThackerAgency on October 10, 2007 at 6:52 PM
Now, now, let’s be accurate: AP found God over a Yankee loss, and he dumps Rudy over saying he’d appoint a Yankee manager to his cabinet. All perfectly consistent for a Mets fan.

Come on, Allah. Show some love for the Yanks. That’s the problem I have with Met fans, they ALL hate the Yankees. Yet, Yankee fans LIKE the Mets. We’re always rooting for you guys, and I was just as disgusted (well maybe not THAT disgusted) during your historic slide.
Ah, Met fans. So bitter. So bitter.

Hillary leads in swing states? Of course she does. She sent the memo this morning. So did President Gore and President Kerry lead Bush. Remember them? Does Hillary get annointed or are we going to have an actual election?
roninacreage on October 10, 2007 at 7:06 PM
Amerpundit, you are posting stuff showing Clinton winning. You are using that as a positive for Rudy?
The Clinton machine hasn’t even gotten her claws into Rudy’s dirt yet. She’s not even playing yet. Rudy won’t galvanize the base.
Give it to Clinton unless it is a Conservative candidate for Republicans.
ThackerAgency on October 10, 2007 at 7:08 PM
Allah, I’m a Mets fan, too, but Torre managed the Mets from 1977 to 1981. He played with them for a few years, also. Hit into 4 double plays in one game and jokingly blamed Felix Millan for being on first base each time he came up.
I forgive Torre for his Yankee tenure.
Attila (Pillage Idiot) on October 10, 2007 at 7:09 PM
For the record, the trend for Rudy vs. Hillary is Hillary was down 6 months ago by a pretty wide margin.
It’s over.
McCain might be able to beat her because the media likes him. But Rudy will get crushed by the media.

tommylotto on October 10, 2007 at 7:31 PM
Yes, but not be nearly a great enough margin to justify the “only Rudy can beat Hillary” nonsense that we keep hearing; not with 13 months to go.

Almost as bad as in last night’s debate when he tried to explain away his idiotic Supreme Ct. escapade to rob the President of the line item veto.
Almost as bad as in previous debates when he tried to explain that he was “forced” to continue a sanctuary city policy because of “executive orders!” And because the Feds wouldn’t respond.
I may vote for him, but he’s full of sh*t on this.

Wish I’d thought to bookmark the link, but Ted Olsen says the line item veto is unconstitutional too.
JM Hanes on October 10, 2007 at 8:26 PM
That poll actually reinforces Giuliani’s electability:
Looking at other possible 2008 presidential matchups in Florida, the Quinnipiac University Swing State Poll finds:
Clinton tops McCain 46 – 42 percent, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson 48 – 39 percent and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 48 – 37 percent;
Giuliani bests Obama 42 – 39 percent and edges Edwards 43 – 41 percent;
Obama beats Thompson 45 – 36 percent and Romney 43 – 36 percent, but trails McCain 41 – 39 percent;
Edwards edges McCain 42 – 40 percent and beats Thompson 44 – 36 percent and Romney 47 – 33 percent.
By a 49 – 41 percent margin, Florida voters have a favorable opinion of Clinton. Favorability ratings for other contenders are:
49 – 34 percent for Giuliani;
43 – 30 percent for McCain;
47 – 27 percent for Obama;
46 – 32 percent for Edwards;
29 – 24 percent for Thompson;
30 – 20 percent for Romney.
TallDave on October 10, 2007 at 8:36 PM
I do think Rudy should just be honest and say “Hey, the line item veto was a bad deal for New York, and I was elected to represent New Yorkers, and I did.”
That said, a lot of conservatives agree the line item veto is unconstitutional, and are probably wrong. We’re not Democrats; we don’t break the rules every time it’s convenient, or because somewhere a puppy is sad.
Also, if you live in Wisconsin you know what a mess the line item veto became. They started doing crazy stuff like “vetoing” the word “not” out of bills, so they had the exact opposite effect as legislated.
TallDave on October 10, 2007 at 8:41 PM
Gah, “and are probably right.” PIMF!
TallDave on October 10, 2007 at 8:42 PM
Well, it’s at least arguably constitutional. And although I’m no constitutional scholar, I suppose it depends upon exactly how it is structured. Nevertheless, it’s helpful, and it wasn’t unconstitutional until Rudy’s efforts made it so. He tries to make it sound like somebody is forcing his hand. This is a repeat character flaw I see in him–blaming others to avoid taking responsibility for his actions. There’s something typically Rudy about this. He LOVES LOVES a fight, the more public and the higher profile the better. I’m just not sure he cares enough which fight he picks. I still would vote for him against Hillary, but I don’t think there’s any doubt he’s a volatile guy. So far, you’ve seen Mr. Nice Rudy on TV.

I’d rather have Rudy than Hillary. However, one of my biggest concerns about Rudy is his qualifications. Absent, 9/11 it seems unlikely that we’d consider the mayor of a large city as sufficient qualification for the Whitehouse.
I could be convinced that NYC is large and complex enough to provide a test on domestic issues, but I wish Rudy had done something else in government from Jan 2002 onward. Maybe if he had stepped up to take the Homeland Security post instead of pushing his buddy Bernie that would have helped. By doing something in public service along those lines instead of earning a small personal fortune would have reflected well on him.

In Ohio, Clinton leads Giuliani, 46% to 40%
In Florida, Clinton leads Giuliani, 46% to 43%
In Pennsylvania, Clinton leads Giuliani, 48% to 42%.
It’s pretty early to be going wide and deep on anybody yet, don’t you think? Republicans aren’t going to pick up Ohio no matter who runs. Florida is the very definition of a coin toss, and considering Santorum’s recent fate, I’d say centrist looks about as red as Pennsylvania’s going to get any time soon. It gets harder to play the “invetible” card, however, when you look at Hillary’s unfavorables, and the upside of the “wide and deep” numbers is that 41% of Hillary’s supporters in Florida are potential gets, and ditto 34% in PA.
The electability argument is going to sit there until social conservatives start explaining how they can win this election for Republicans without any of those votes.

Ummmm EVERYBODY outside of NEW YAWK hates the YankMees!
Yes, I am an Atlanta Braves fan thru and thru!
As for Rudy, his ONLY issue is the WOT. He is strong there, everywhere else he doesnt cut it. As for Dobson, I was a Dem turned Rep in mid 90′s and frankly that “religious” base thing has always annoyed me. I worship in my own way and how I wish, to politicze religion is wrong to me. Cowtowing to Dobson is pandering in the Nth degree!
It is going to boil down to this: are you going to not vote for the Republicans and allow the Dems to take over the country espousing every single thing you despise OR are you going to suck it up and vote for the nominee?
We just saw what happened in the last election when so many people protested by “sitting out”. Congrats..the loonies won. One way to fix that, HOLD YOUR NOSE AND VOTE next time!
labwrs on October 10, 2007 at 10:31 PM
How come no mention of the real reason he is un-electable.
In the last debate, with zero hesitation, he said he WOULD allow Dubai (or any other like country) to buy a controlling interest in one of our Stock Exchanges. He is no different than Bush and if he is nominated/elected it will be more of the same race to sell off the country to the highest bidder and the voters be damned.
Both sides are liquidating this country’s assets in a Bankruptcy/firesale/everything must go style. We are getting hosed and arguing about degrees of water pressure.

The guy that Rudy should have said will be in his cabinet is Ralph Houk, the great manager who was affectionately nicknamed “The Major”. Ralph is a little long in the tooth but he would make a great Secretary of Defense. Let’s not forget that he won World Series in 1961, 1962 and he reached the WS in 1963 and 1964 (with an aging, patched up ball club) and he also managed in Boston and Minnesota. Maybe Rudy just forgot about Ralph.
