GWU slander update: Who is Brian Tierney?

Last night we reported on a group of leftists who slandered the Young America’s Foundation on the campus of George Washington University. In that post, I noted that one of those responsible is GW masters degree student Adam Kokesh, a former Marine who has turned anti-war and now runs with the Iraq Veterans Against the War crowd. That group was responsible for propping up phony soldier Jesse MacBeth.

Kokesh’s confessed cohorts at GWU include fellow student Brian Tierney. Helpfully, Mr. Tierney has a Facebook page that helps us understand what motivated him to distribute slanderous posters around the GWU campus, posters that depicted the YAF’s Islamo-Fascism Week as an orgy of racism. Those of us who aren’t students at GWU can’t access Tierney’s Facebook page, but that hasn’t stopped the details of that page from getting out.

Let’s take a look at the groups that Mr. Tierney belongs to.

October Rebellion-Resist Neoliberalism ▪ Lucky Dub ▪ CAN – GWU Campus Anti-War Network ▪ Campus Antiwar Network ▪ Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional ▪ Students In Solidarity with the People of Oaxaca ▪ Mexico Solidarity Network ▪ Rose’s Place ▪ The VT gunman does NOT represent all Asian-Americans (Stop the Hatred) ▪ The GWU & Virginia Tech Alliance ▪ Extradite Chiquita Officials ▪ Students Against Illegal Israeli Settlements ▪ SIT Mexico Spring 2007 ▪ TRANCE ADDCITS ▪ STONERZ Lounge ▪ Virgins of GW, Unite! ▪ Students Against Sweatshop Labor at GWU!!! ▪ Katrina Relief ▪ DC Student Labor Action Project ▪ DarfurFast (10/5/06) ▪ MAKE TRADE FAIR ▪ Progressive Student Union ▪ Stop the War on Lebanon ▪ Fuck You Paperclip From Word (GW Chapter) ▪ Bush Is Not My President!!!! ▪ George Bush Doesn’t Care about Black People ▪ Gw Socialist Society ▪ Students For Justice In Palestine ▪ Ann Coulter Is a Fugly Slut ▪ This Is the Face of a Feminist

Socialists, check. Pro-illegal aliens, check. Anti-Israel, pro-whoever is fighting Israel, check. Hatred for Bush and Coulter, check. Darfur advocacy, check.

Yup. Typical lefty student.

What else has Mr. Tierney posted? Well, his interests include

Revolution, Politics, Socialism, Writing, Poetry, Sparking Trees, sleeping…

No, I don’t know what “sparking trees” means either. Going by the quotes he has posted as his favorites, Tierney is politically somewhere to the left of Lenin.

“If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine.”
- Ernesto “Che” Guevara

“Our fear that communism might someday take over most of the world blinds us to the fact that anti-communism already has.”
-Michael Parenti

“The foreigner coming from another country imposed his rule by means of guns and machines…The natives’ challenge to the colonial world is not a rational confrontation of points of view…”
-Frantz Fanon
–Imperialism is not an intellectual exercise; imperialism is the flagrant admission of the imperialist that he cannot compete on the intellectual plane and so he has abandoned reason, surrendering his purpose to sheer force. Thus, intellectualism and its discourses alone will not suffice in overcoming imperial aggression.–

“High poverty signals capitalism triumphant… It must come from the poor, a rebellion of the spirit, that reaffirms their intrinsic human worth, based upon who they are rather than what they possess.”
- Mumia Abu-Jamal

Che, check. Mumia, check. The guy’s a walking stereotype. And a mediocre writer, if you go by his “About Me” section.

I go to school in Washington DC at the George Washington University, majoring in International Affairs with a regional concentration in Latin America.
I write poetry occasionally. I love to listen to political underground hip-hop; I’m an Immortal Technique fanatic. Beyond that though, my political education began many years ago when I started to listen to Rage Against the Machine. Since then, I’ve been a committed leftist fighting for socialism, demanding freedom for political prisoners like Mumia Abu-Jamal, and struggling to one day topple this fucked up imperialist empire you call America. I think that Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz and the rest of that neoconservative, “Project-for-a-New-American-
Century”-clique that’s taken over this country should line up in the firing squad so I can spray those degenerate fascist fuckers. Kidding..kind of. Anyway, I’ve also been attracted to the works of Noam Chomsky and anarcho-syndicalism. Some of the first things that need to go in order to remedy the classist injustices and socioeconomic inequalities inherent in this hyper-capitalistic global economy are the IMF, the World Bank, WTO, and NAFTA….. I stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and their struggle against the apartheid state of Israel. Zionism IS racism. The construction of the apartheid wall is a campaign of economic strangulation, physically restraining the already-restricted movement of Palestinians in their own homeland and marginalizing their existence in a manner that would otherwise be considered unthinkable in the 21st century. Israel demolishes Palestinian homes daily – it defames the humanity of Palestinian lives while mocking International Law with utter impunity. Long Live the Intifada! …. I AM A FEMINIST. Like racism, misogyny is a subliminal ideology that permeates our society – yes, even in American society, our corporate culture is so thoroughly caught in the mental fetters of patriarchy.
I guess my chief talent would be writing (I’m thinking of minoring in journalism). I also like to rap sometimes (“I spit hot fire”).

MAN’S INNATE FREEDOM IS SUCH THAT IT SCARES HIM AND HE IS FOUND ERECTING A VAST FORTRESS OF INSTITUTIONS, CONSTRUCTS, AND ARBITRARILY DELINEATED NORMS AROUND HIMSELF. HE CONFUSES SUPERFLUOUS SOCIETAL REIFICATIONS WITH HUMANITY. -B. Tierney

I’m guessing that if writing is his chief talent, he’s going to have a hard time finding work.

More: The “Guerilla Writer” has a MySpace page. Warning: It plays a hideous and foul-mouthed rap when you go to it. Much Mumia video to be found there.

Ernesto, just as watching the less accomplished, local version of pro wrestling will teach you much about the endemic fakery that is much better concealed by the top pros, studying the leftist loon in his larval college form can provide valuable analysis points that will aid in decoding the mendacious trickery of the more adept adult version.

ernesto on October 10, 2007 at 1:18 PM

You need to read up on this story a bit before taking me on on it. GWU was ready to send the YAF students through the usual leftist “sensitivity training” re-education courses. Student leadership was up to make the YAF kids apologize for something that they didn’t do. And the campus Muslim groups were all on edge about the new climate of “hate” that the posters represented. The story has made it way over to the Middle East already, where it’s being used as evidence of a growing climate of bigotry against Muslims.

This isn’t the biggest story in the world, but I haven’t treated it as though it is. It is interesting, and in the full context it’s more imporant than you seem to think it is.

As usual, ernesto, do your homework.

Bryan on October 10, 2007 at 1:28 PM

ernesto and DaveS,

It’s an important story for a few reasons. One is that it’s another example of leftists trying to stifle conservative speech at universities. This has become a recurring problem.

Another is that it’s probably just the beginning of a series of attacks on the Islamo-Fascist Awareness Week. I’ll go out on a limb here and say that there will be a attempts to shut down events on multiple campuses across the country. This is just the start.

It also shows another example of leftists paradoxically rushing to the defense of Islamism. (Islamism and not Muslims in general is the focus of the event being attacked)It’s a weird alliance that’s in need of some attention.

forest on October 10, 2007 at 1:34 PM

No, I don’t know what “sparking trees” means either.

“Sparking Trees” is a euphemism for smoking doobies…. marijuana… mary-jane… LOCO WEED!

Bryan on October 10, 2007 at 1:28 PM

ugh…bryan bryan bryan. as a current college student, and as a student whos taken courses all over manhattan and westchester (lefty heaven), i’ve come to understand that the political climate on campus is almost meaningless in the eyes of the vast majority of students.

apathy, not leftist bigotry, is the true scourge of our universities. it’s easy to point to a certain college and a certain incident and act like theres a threatening push towards leftizing the students. if you would only understand that so so so many of them simply DONT CARE for politics in the least…then you would understand why i dismiss all these stories as irrelevent.

the colleges of america aren’t the political battlegrounds they were in the 60’s. lets not treat them as such.

ernesto on October 10, 2007 at 1:48 PM

ernesto on October 10, 2007 at 1:48 PM

So what you’re saying is that if this were the ’60s he would’ve been a member of 100 leftist political organizations instead of just 50.

Well, that makes all the difference, doesn’t it?

Gack. Maybe I need to do both.

Miss_Anthrope on October 10, 2007 at 1:55 PM

ernesto,

Your age is SHOWING.

Miss_Anthrope on October 10, 2007 at 1:56 PM

This story is being blown out of proportion. It doesn’t look like anyone went after YAF initially, or singled them out. Go read the original article linked by the YAF article, not the more sensational, woe-is-me, sob-story YAF version.

A sampler:

Fifteen student organizations led by the GW Muslim Student Association, and including YAF, the Islamic Alliance for Justice and the Jewish Student Association, signed a statement expressing that they were “appalled at this incidence of hate and Islamophobia.”

When the hell did the right turn into a bunch of whining victim-pimps? Are we trying to gin up our own exaggerated Jena 6 type story?

DaveS on October 10, 2007 at 1:57 PM

DaveS –

It was on the nightly news (local) BEFORE this, and YAF had to deny involvement. Didn’t you hear about that?

whoops! got a little “the” happy!

Miss_Anthrope on October 10, 2007 at 2:01 PM

ernesto, ernesto, ernesto…

Go read my original post on this, esp this paragraph.

In the past few years we’ve seen leftists on campuses all over the country try all kinds of ways to shut down conservative speech, whether it’s Columbia students rushing the stage to stifle the Minutemen or leftist radicals at Berkeley trying to shout down Michelle. At SFSU, the College Republicans were investigated after they stomped on a Hezbollah flag, Hezbollah being a group that’s only second to al Qaeda in killing Americans through terrorism, and the students having done an act that if done to the American flag would be constitutionally protected free speech. And there’s the ongoing series of newspaper thefts at Berkeley, whenever its campus paper runs an ad that some leftist doesn’t like. And stepping outside college campuses, it’s worth noting the left’s ongoing campaign to take Rush Limbaugh off the air and marginalize Fox News. It’s all part of the same strategy of pushing conservatives out of society by any means necessary.

There’s more to this than you let on or will admit.

Bryan on October 10, 2007 at 2:02 PM

Wow. How misguided can you get?

Zorro on October 10, 2007 at 2:02 PM

Bryan on October 10, 2007 at 2:02 PM

Yes, but those actions are done by what percentage of the student body? Colleges are bastions of liberal thinking, but apathy is the action word for most students.

Granted it’s been awhile since I was in school, but the newspaper had no impact intellectually. Majority of people folded it up to the crossword and that was about it. Even when the editor got a Rhodes scholarship it had very very little impact on the college conversation.

xler8bmw on October 10, 2007 at 2:21 PM

fine…lets treat ultra liberal colleges who’ve been ultra liberal for decades treating conservative voices poorly as a vile threat. lets tie it into the big money media matters type organizations.

last time I checked, liberty university imposed strict dress codes on ALL their students…to the point that they ban, and I quote, “Hair and clothing style related to a counterculture (as determined by the Student Conduct Review Committee) are not acceptable.”

private universities have the right to create any setting they wish. according to GWU, you’re subject to harsher treatment if you’re conservative. at liberty, if you wear a mohawk you’re in trouble. if you play death metal in you’re dorm room, you’re in trouble.

so lets take me as an example. at GWU, id get some harassement from the authorities if my club was alleged to have committed a racist act. i’d have to defend myself, and when all was said and done i’d be let go just fine. at liberty, id be expelled.

its not that i think conservatives should be shunned, but at college, the leaders make the rules, and thats pretty much that.

Bryan on October 10, 2007 at 2:27 PM

you’re right about that. my mistake. public universities are a different issue entirely. but again, they are all managed differently. here at CUNY we have a board of trustees that governs the entire system (the 3rd largest in the country), but mostly on matters of dean appointments and budget. most if not all of the issues that would have anything to do with these incidents falls on the president of the individual college. california may be different, but i stress…

actions taken by particularly driven and warped students may or may not represent a real issue in the eyes of the administration. like the shouting down of the minutemen, it was a group of students that acted like @ssholes. student bigotry, the political kind, is not a major issue to these people.

if, at the end of the day, this all upsets you, what should be done? does government step in? if so, which one? how do you “solve” this “problem”?

Bryan on October 10, 2007 at 2:50 PM

[ernesto on October 10, 2007 at 1:48 PM]

I understand that myself. My son and his friends couldn’t care one wit about this stuff. The problem — apathy — as you state it, though, is just the big middle. But just because this middle ignores the war of ideas that is going on, doesn’t mean the war of ideas is neither important at all levels nor that “your side” (and I use that guardedly) should abandon a rampart. The leftists surely will not.

The bigger problem is that the referee is taking sides, and that, I think, this is the primary reason of Brian’s post here, with the immediate point being unmasking who the players are. They aren’t just folks doing prctical jokes; by Brian Tierney’s bio, he is intensely serious and defintiely not apathetic.

RATM is overdue for that disabling heroin od, even though it seems like they already had it.

Jaibones on October 10, 2007 at 2:56 PM

good god this is inane. Maybe the story is worthwhile but putting up his facebook page? Thank god everyone here is aware he’s in the stonerz lounge group,oh and the “**** you paperclip from Word” one as well. Insightful.

I love to listen to political underground hip-hop; I’m an Immortal Technique fanatic.

yeah dude, cause Immortal Technique is sooo underground! If he knew his fan base was 20 year old white college kids his head would explode. Too bad cause he’s actually talented.

Your personal anecdotes don’t constitute what’s actually going on in the world.

if, at the end of the day, this all upsets you, what should be done? does government step in? if so, which one? how do you “solve” this “problem”?

ernesto on October 10, 2007 at 2:40 PM

It shouldn’t step in, but if things like this are going on at state colleges, the government can certainly step out of them.

Other than that, calling attention to the problem creates an embarrassment for the universities which live off of money from customers. At the end of the day, they’re just businesses and can be reached the same way all businesses are reached, through their pocketbooks.

Sigh.

Methinks that somebody should talke this kid out back of the barn and beat the crap out of him. It’d be a “last chance” at redemption for him. Otherwise, in a few years, he’ll be planting IEDs in inside America as a domestic terrorist.

Going from “spark” to “spike” is a pretty big typo. I’m pretty sure he just means smoking dope.

Esthier on October 10, 2007 at 3:00 PM

Yup, missed that. I assumed, based on the Commission vid that he just thought America caused it, not actually did it.
Good catch.

OH DEAR GOD! A FEMINIST! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Nonfactor on October 10, 2007 at 3:15 PM

I’m pretty sure he just means smoking dope.

Maybe….but if your dope smoking has reached such proportions that it can only be described as ’sparking trees‘ then I don’t think this kid is destined for much in life…

What a loser

Thanks. And really, when you’re as anti-American as he seems to be, you almost have to be a Truther. Otherwise you’d have to admit that we were attacked and took action in defense of this country.

And look at these blogs:

You really don’t know what Feminism is.

I know what it was, how it was subverted, and what it has become

Judging by the fact that you think believing in Feminist ideologies is just a way to “get laid” really proves that you don’t know what it is.

Nonfactor on October 10, 2007 at 3:31 PM

I see we have two Clueless Trolls here: ernesto and Nonfactor, Dumb and Dumber, the Lauren & Hardy of Hotair threads, drawn here out of a Primal Urge to defend one of their own, downlaying and diverting.

Their ’sparking trees’ comrade is another Che wannabee from the Burbs, spouting slogans that got a lot of people killed

No no no…he is wearing his ’causes’ like a scout wears his merit badges…hoping it will ingratiate him with a particular social subset.

The stereotypical snotty brats and their militant vaginas like to pump their fists and chant slogans…yet don’t have a damn clue either.

He’s doing this to get laid…and he’s a failure at even that trivial conquest.

He’s a loser.

Calling Dr. Freud. Everything is an action by men to “get laid,” or perhaps you’re simply projecting.

Nonfactor on October 10, 2007 at 3:41 PM

Maybe, maybe…maybe not…maybe I have more insight into this than you could possibly glean from a couple of brief blog comments?

Here’s a clue for ya….try to restrain yourself from throwing around pop-psychology terms that any shaved ape can learn from the back of a cornflakes box.

Ochlan on October 10, 2007 at 3:46 PM

Che, check. Mumia, check. The guy’s a walking stereotype.

Seriously, he’s truly pathetic. You’d think even “real” socialist nutcases who are in the business of doing nothing but defending the indefensible would make him an outcast for being such a follower and a cliche.

Honestly, I just am stunned that he’s not embarrassed. Reading his description sounds like what I might say if I were to sarcastically pretend I was of his ilk. What a loser, there’s really not much more to say.

I’m guessing that if writing is his chief talent, he’s going to have a hard time finding work.

Actually, if they look at his beliefs, he’ll probably have an easy time. Have you been paying attention to the media in recent years Bryan? This douche is on the fast track to a gig at the Times.

You’re only mad at me because you want to “get laid,” people who espouse so much anger on right-wing blogs must be sexually frustrated.

I bet that Tierney guy just got back from Folsom Street.

peacenprosperity on October 10, 2007 at 3:50 PM

Good to know ernesto is out there ignoring everything, complaining about any who have concerns or opinions; and generally being very vocal about apathy. Apathy is the big problem, but nobody should really care? I think that was your point, if you could be given to have one…

You don’t care about the fliers, the slander involved, the attempt to get others in trouble. Gotcha.

But you do care about anyone doing a minor amount of research into who was behind the slander, to figure out what the goal and motivation was.

This in fact motivates you to the point where you have to comment, and in commenting attack anyone willing to do even a minor amount of research… then claim the problem is apathy.

So, apathy is the problem; but your solution is “who gives a Sh!T” and nobody should bother to do even a minor amount of research.

Are you sure you don’t think apathy is the solution? It seems to be exactly what you’re promoting.

Or maybe your point was such and incoherent rambling mess I missed it.

Please clarify any or all of the following.

Is apathy the problem, and ignoring situations somehow the solution? Does telling everyone to ignore a political discussion help curb apathy? Does “not giving a sh*t” encourage dialog and end apathetic attitudes?

Oh, and if you don’t give a sh*t about the slander, and don’t give a sh*t about who was behind it, or why; then why do you give a sh*t about people trying to figure out those answers?

Ochlan on October 10, 2007 at 3:51 PM

I’m thinking of minoring in journalism

I’m sure you’ll be a dispassionate investigator for truth.

my political education began many years ago when I started to listen to Rage Against the Machine.

Strange as it sounds, RATM debunks communism, albeit unwittingly. On the one hand, they say stuff like this:

America touts itself as the land of the free, but the number one freedom that you and I have is the freedom to enter into a subservient role in the workplace. Once you exercise this freedom you’ve lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn’t belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don’t care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve.

Then they say stuff like this in regards to their lucrative relationship with Epic Records:

Epic agreed to everything we asked—and they’ve followed through.… We never saw a[n] [ideological] conflict as long as we maintained creative control.

Can’t have it both ways, guys. If our only choice in America is subservience or starvation, then how is it that RATM–and countless other people–have achieved success doing what they want? Might it be that capitalism, whatever its faults, allows a level of freedom not found elsewhere?
